Getting a pre-diabetic diagnosis was more than enough of a warning shot to make me drop old habits and lame excuses for not wanting to get healthy.
I'm currently on the South Beach Diet. It's idiot proof. Drinking 80 oz or more of H2O a day.
Walking at least 30 minutes a day.
Like I said, a warning shot, and idiot proof.

I'm new to the forums so I am not sure what I am supposed to do, start a new thread or just reply to one. Anyway, I met the goals for week one, although I didn't follow the suggested menus. I do eat pretty healthy most of the time. I am having trouble getting in all the water I need. I am so happy today, I finally am down below 189. I have been dancing around it for two weeks, at 189.2, then up to 190.2, then 189.8, then 191. Today I was 188.6. My blood sugars have been in the 115-127 range in the mornings. My problem is I forget to take the BS before I eat something, and then, what is the point? Anyway, I am still diabetic and I still need my glimperide daily. I sure hope this weight loss journey will help keep me from the complications of diabetes!

Kept up with the challenger yesterday and today..Thank you girls for lifting me up. I felt so bad after those nutty ice cream cones. But my glucose was 100 this morning so that means the gardening and the walking helped. I just wish the scale will move this week. The Dr. told me once that when exercising muscle was heavier then fat. We'll see.. emoticon emoticon

VALLEYITE - emoticon job on the walking!! Looks to me like you more than likely worked off those two ice cream cones you had the other day with all the gardening and sweating you did! Take one day at a time! emoticon but remember to drink lots of fluids, have your snacks to prevent your BS from crashing, especially when you are getting so much exercise in! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Linda, emoticon for the pick me up moment. I guess we can't always be perfect when you get the urge for something cool and comforting after 2 hours of pulling weeds and gardening.

After doing to so good, messed up dearly yesterday with an extra serving of mac and cheese for dinner and 2 nut cones..I was so hot after doing 2 hours of gardening that I made a bad choice. Today I will not eat ice cream and make a better choice with cool sugar free jello.

JAN - Looks like you're going to react the same way I do to exercise. Try having some cottage cheese or an Egg Beater with your cereal along with a slice of bread and peanut butter. If you're having oatmeal, try putting some raisins and/or walnuts in with it. I wouldn't go to exercise with only carbs before hand. ALWAYS add protein with it. You could have a peanut butter and banana sandwich before exercise also along with a glass of milk. If you've already had breakfast, make your snack just 1/2 of a sandwich. Walnuts are always good to have on hand all the time along with your glucose tabs or raisins.

Cardiac Rehab exercise facility changed it's hours so now I can go Monday through Thursday.
I eat before I go (cereal and milk for breakfast, sometimes I have a high fiber bread with peanut butter before I go also). I test bg twice a day when I'm at CR - before and after exercise. Today post-exercise was 72. It has been running about 75 so I bring glucose tabs or raisins. Today they also gave me apple juice. Staff suggested I eat more protein in the morning so I'm working on that.

Well, just woke up and it is 4:30 pm. My husband and I work nights at the hospital and sleep during most of the day. Keeps us out of most of the heat.

Fasting Blood sugar= 88. Back to work tonight, also will be working July 4th, but we are off the weekend. Hope to get out to a park Saturday or Sunday morning-if not raining due to the Storm that will be passing by about then.

Sitting here drinking my protein shake and trying to wake up.

Still fighting the ole` Heat Index. An out door workouts are risky at my age until that Heat Index an Dew Points drop below 65% ( that's bearable ). Even now not feeling up to par so getting those chair exercises in and pushing that water. Fruit smoothies hit the spot as well as jello parfaits and Ice Tea. Looking forward to an increase in my activity as weather permits.

Sluggish and tired of the humidity around here today we hit an index of 105.
Water equaling 8 glasses a day or more, fruit smoothies a plenty, light meals, with indoor walking as much as one can. Just to hot outside both early morning and after the sun goes down. Looking for a milder finish for this week.

After a week of dragging myself around and not sleeping well (because I was too tired) I finally got a real night's sleep and woke up feeling human. Not at the top of my game, but definitely better. I did eat more yesterday than I have been. Blood sugars was a little higher this morning, but still good at 107. I went to water aerobics and came home feeling alright.

starting week 2 and hopefully it will be as good as week 1. Had a change in my glipizide - now taking 20mg, BS is still a little high. Maybe an increase of exercise might help a little. I still need help emoticon

Wonderful news about your blood levels but I wonder if you are eating enough. Have you checked out your nutrition tracker to see your ranges for calories, carbs, protein and fats.. It is important that you eat within the ranges. In fact, I suggest that you eat at the top of your ranges for optimum health, energy and weight loss.
I hope your energy levels rebounds. Soon.

Starting week 2. Good start this morning my glucose was under 100. Which is great for me. I am doing pretty well with my food, but I am so tired this week that the only days I am exercising is when I go to water aerobics. I was doing great at exercising everyday. Now it is all I can do to drag myself out of bed.

JOANNE - Be sure you stretch before and after your walking/exercising. It can make a world of difference on how you feel and how much more limber you will be without all the soreness. Also, be sure you drink plenty of non-calorie fluids before, during, and after your exercises as well. Plan on having a small snack after your workouts such as cracker and cheese, apple and peanut butter/cheese - something on that order.

Keep up the good work and I'm sure you and your doctor will see a big difference by October in appearance, A1Cs, energy etc.

Hi everyone, this is my 2nd week of the challange, my sugar numbers are better, because I'm more concious of what I'm eating.

I am also exercising each day, I over did it yesterday and walked 4 miles and today I'm really sore, I will do a shorter walk today or a video online, I really love the videos, they are the most realistic I've been able to understand and do.

I go back to my doctor in October for an A1C and blood work, so I hope I can get my weight and blood numbers down to a good number, I'm trying.

Talk to you soon.

Joanne emoticon
