Sorry for not getting back to your earlier, Martha. I've done this Challenge many times, after I was sick or injured, as a way to get back to running gradually.
I would just start over. BUT if you can easily pickup where you left off, go for it,easy!

So on Day 4 of this challenge I got sick, and still am. I hate it that I'm behind in my training already! Is there a way to pause the daily emails and restart at Day 4 in a couple of days when I get well? Or am I supposed to just skip those days and jump back in?

A Team Wall Post made me think and do some research on Recovery Days.
I know if I've been a statue for 2 weeks, I need to hit the RESTART.

I will go out on that first day and do a light 3 mile jog to check my form, my endurance, and conditioning. Forget the speed. When I'm comfy, I'll get back to speed drills soon enough. I'm not a Pro or an Elite. I run for health, to better myself, and keep maintaining my weight. Read this:

www.runnersworld.com/recover
y

On the days I don't run, I'll do a light core stretch, some strength training, maybe a swim, or a casual bike ride. (not a Spin Class!) If you are feeling sore, (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness aka DOMS), you will actually feel better when you move. Oh, and look into a foam roller or a stick roller. Roll out those muscles and get your blood flowing.
I'll be 68 in May so don't play the age card with me if you're an active runner.

The worse thing you can do is park yourself on the sofa for the day. We don't do that. Right?

Tuesday before last I was doing a 6 mile run. In my last mile, I turned into my neighborhood, hit a depression and my hamstring did a slight pull. I ran my Half (last Sunday) under the threshold of pain and nailed a PR for the race. (Surprised me as I did the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct 22)
emoticon
Came home and went to a Dr of Sports Massage recommended by my Coach, got it worked out, doing PT, and will run this weekend! BAM! The thing about it, I found out my quads were tight as well as my left hip flexor. This amplifies the fact that I need to continue my static and dynamic stretches before and after my runs. I need to focus on these areas during my off running days. There's the importance of core/stretch workouts, and strength training!
emoticon
I used to just do runs 3 times a week, nothing else, and always run into injuries. During 2017, I trained for my Marathon and embraced the training program. Run Drills, Strength Training, & Stretch Workouts/Yoga kept me injury free. This freak accident helped me in several ways. Had to pass it on!

How's the training going Monty? I have been busting butt at the warehouse so a run had to be put off a few days. I miss it though...

I won't lie. Getting anxious. 56 Days until the Marine Corps Marathon! I've been officially training since May 22. My longest run to date is 16 miles (last Sunday)

I've put in a lot of training miles. Funny thing is you don't feel any change but when you look at your mileage, you realize your strength & endurance is so much stronger. I look at 3 & 5 mile distance as nice "warmup runs!" You also can adjust your pace better. The hardest thing was to gear down 1-1.5 minutes slower that your Half Marathon pace. But when you start to do uber miles, it becomes a lot easier.

That's why I always preach training! No matter the distance, use a training plan and embrace it as you plan out your attack on the course. You do that an anything is possible. Embrace Challenge. embrace a Healthy Lifestyle!

KIELISZA,

Started training for the Turkey Trot in November. However, if I'm ready I may run the Stein Run in October!

Thanks for the motivation. You are an inspiration! I'm used to pain as someone with fibromyalgia but I will pay attention and distinguish. It felt good to run yesterday. I might even do the Stein run in October if all goes well! Keep on keepin' on!

I see others have joined the challenge and should be on week one. Anyone else doing this challenge in preparation for an upcoming 5K?

Getting healthy is like getting through boot camp. It's a lot of hard work, and some days you want to quit. But when graduation day arrives, memories of pain and trouble pale in the light of the pride and accomplishment you feel. You made it! You didn't quit.

It is already June 1! I sure hope the summer doesn't fly by that fast.

Still feeling the pain and I'm continuing my PT. The pain isn't as bad though since I've been on summer break and haven't been standing. I'm hoping to be much better by August when I return to work!

Have a great week!

I continue to read about new runners not doing their homework, rush out, and buy a shoe that will become a ticking time bomb for injury!

What I learn from my Coach during my Marathon training, I will share with everyone. Had my first consult, went over my video taped run! OMG, I was running like I was on a tightrope! Had no clue why I was doing it. Coach put me on dynamic stretching drills! My Half in Nebraska on Sunday will be my benchmark for my formal training starting in June! I'm positive and excited!

Hello Teammates.

Hope everyone is traing well and staying with the schedule. I've increased my training distances now but on recovery days, I like to do a "recovery" walk or jog. Yesterday evening at Run Club, 32 hours after a scheduled training run, a Teammate asked if I was going to run. She wanted to taper for St Anthony's Triathlon as did I. So, we went out and did 3 miles with intervals of 4:1. We sprinted the last 200 yards! I was excited & amazed at how good my body felt. Was it the intervals? The amount/distance of training runs I was doing? My Teammate was wondering the samething!

I suspect my distances were doing exactly what they're supposed to do, strengthen conditioning and endurance. I can't be definitive but we'll see as miles will be added to my training! I'll also discuss this with my coach.

Meanwhile, when you are on the run, take time to play with it. Focus on your form, insure you gait is not under or over extended, use those arms, and find your fave breathing style. (nose or mouth or both) Become one with your shoes, feel for comfort. Enjoy and have fun!

Stay Strong!
Monty

I start my official training timeline for the Marine Corps Marathon in mid June. My coach has told me what to start doing before them to build my endurance and conditioning.

I'm reminded of when I first started to run and did this plan back in Oct, 2010. That alone confirms I will achieve my 26.2.

This plan worked for me repeatedly from the time I wanted to be a runner and through recovery from injury and illness.

Stay Strong and Stay Focused. From the day you start this Challenge forward, you become a runner! Make it for Life!

That's awesome! I prefer running when it's 40 to 60 degrees. Anyting warmer than that and I am miserable! Not conducive to life in Florida! Happy Running and Happy SParking!

HI all! Happy Saturday! I completed a 4 mile training run for my Princess HM next weekend this morning with a 13:06 pace. I am training through an injury with a professional coach to guide me. She has me running 2/2 intervals on my short runs and 1/2 to 1/3 on my longer runs. I injured my knee badly in January and am nursing it through. My goal right now is just to finish the race without getting pulled from the course. I must maintain at least a 16 min mile pace. I WILL beat this!! Happy Sparking!!

Yesterday wasn't a bad day. Temps were in the 30's, but the wind is still cold! Managed to get in 3 miles with my son. He has to build back up so I didn't go as far as I would've by myself. We have 1 more warm day before freezing rain arrives and the temps drop again. It looks like we may get a taste of Spring by the weekend though! emoticon

I had a nice run/walk on the treadmill on Sat. Took Sunday off to finish up my baking and other household stuff. Monday will be either a treadmill run or an outdoor run depending on the temps. Winds are suppose to be stronger this week but the temps are suppose to be above zero!

The treadmill has been my friend this week. It's a friend I wish I could do without, but the weather here has been extreme. If the snow moves out early this morning, I may just be able to get out for a run before the big snow storm arrives this afternoon. We'll see. Starting Monday, I will be trying out Snap Fitness with my son. He has a membership and I'm going with him to see if it's something I'd be interested in.

Have a great Friday! emoticon

Thanks MIRAGE!

I resorted to the treadmill yesterday. I took it slow and did a mile easy run and another walk run mile. I really wanted to get outside, but the weather didn't go as planned. The forecast said 29 and calm winds and the snow was suppose to end. That never happened. Drove past the bike path and it was snow covered. Anyone who has ever run around a lake knows that chances are good that under that snow is ice and I'm not willing to take a wipe out chance. Plus I run with tense legs waiting for that ice which isn't good. So the treadmill it will be this week. emoticon

I'm training for longer distances as my first Half is inside 2 months. My Run Clubs keep me honest twice times a week with long runs on the weekends. I'm running for longevity. Speed is secondary to me but I work for a good challenging pace. Living in Florida helps as the weather here is great for running 365 days a year! Life is good!

It's been a rest week for me. I'm feeling that I probably needed it. I'm planning on running this weekend but will go light again next week. Afterwards I'm on winter break so I can concentrate more on working out and I don't have to worry about going to work and standing.
