Thanks AEGISHOT,
You're saying I should use the wraps while I'm running?

I almost missed this, so sorry about it.

In my early years of running I thought I will never get over shin splints, it was so bad I could hardly walk without wincing. But RICE did it without using drugs at all.

RICE is simply Rest it, Ice it, Compress it, Elevate it.

Immediate help came from compression, I had to run 3 times a week so I got a bandage and wrapped it tightly around my shin and after the run I made sure to put ice on it. To crown it all I started running on a treadmill and that was the end of it. I think the pavement and concrete have a way of worsening the splints.

I think a lot has been said and I hope you will feel better soon.

Rest really is helpful. I think there is some other good advise here. I hope you get it resolved before your race.

the best remedy is rest, advil/aspirin and ice....if you can switch up to running trail versus concrete it might help....new running shoes and orthodics are a good start....some of the high end NIKE type stores do impact assessment to identify pronation etc. that can help to select the right shoes for you......just be careful ...cheers

Thanks DINAOREILLY
I will certainly check out this website. I'm hoping to start running again at the end of this week. Maybe a week off will have done the trick. On top of resting, I've been icing my shins and also using compression. Hoping that helps!

PS... I also bought orthotics.

Hi all! My 5k is on December 7th and I've got some killer shin splints. I took 4 days off from impact exercise and was able to successfully be on the elliptical last night with no pain. I'm worried that the minute I start actually running again I'm going to go right back to being in pain. I REALLY REALLY need to do this 5k. I need to see a result. Can someone help me? I'm desperate!
