Hmm, that's interesting about the breathing - mine's OK at the moment, but my times are very slow - and I live in a place that is all up and down hills - hardly any flat at all!

Our park is still half tied off, but I did find out on Sunday why: a branch fell from one of the dead trees and hit a 73-year-old who was out there walking... and who is apparently okay, but the incident prompted the parks director to take a look at all the parks in the area and determine that several trees need to be removed... BUT that wasn't included in the budget for this year, so they've asked for the special funds to do the removal and have to wait for approval. So there's no telling how long it could be.

I've often found myself making noises when I breathe out... I didn't know it was beneficial! I look forward to reading more tips!

Use the sparkpeople websearch and seeif anything pulls up.

The things she told me were stuff she learned from others. I run with her again today and see what kind of tips she gives me!

I'd like to hear more about the breathing techniques you are learning. That is the problem I have when I run. Where can I learn more?

I have a really hard time breathing when I jog. I huff and puff and have to slow down. I want to eventually run with no walking so she is teaching me some tricks.

When I exhale I have to make noise (ahhhh like singing or a low growl) it seems wierd but she does it with me so we both look crazy! LOL

I hope your park opens up soon! Or maybe there may be an alternate trail somewhere. I tried a new one with her and there was more incline than i am used to.

So, what is the breathing barrier?

I've been doing well (I think) jogging intervals gradually longer, but I went to a different park today for my workout and the inclines were so much more pronounced, and it made a HUGE difference in how far I could go without slowing down. I'm registered for a 5K in early March, and I don't know what I'll do if there is more incline than I'm used to...

I mean, there's nothing wrong with walking the 5K, but I was really looking forward to setting a new time, considering how much work I've been putting in to building my stamina.

The park I usually go to has half the course tied off with caution tape, and I don't know if anyone knows why, or when we'll be able to use it again... but the park with the greater inclines has a playground, which makes my daughter want out of the stroller, which means I don't get to go as long.

Okay I have this gret friend who has run marathons and travels all over the vcountry to do them. She LOVES 5k's. She does a 5k on her off day (I wish).

But anyways we went out on a trail today and I brought my 6yr old with his bike and we ran together. She was so nice she didn't make me feel self concious and she is teaching me breathing tricks. She says once your break through the breathing barrier you can run forever. She ran nice and slow for me today (I'm in week 4 walk2/jog2.5) she kept the time and it flew by. I went a whole minute faster then I normally do!!!!

Now she said no matter what the weather we are going to do this every Sunday!! I'm so proud of myself. I'm going to be a runner soon!
