I've learned that taking care of my feet is super-super-important and that it can be really REALLY 'expensive' to try to wear cheap shoes. It's not always apparent when we're younger but the problems that start then will catch up to us as we get older.

The pain along the top of the food can be a stress fracture or it can be something else - the only way to find out is to see a good podiatrist and have it X-rayed. Ignoring it or 'hoping for the best' can result in life-long problems and take it from someone whose feet hurt every single day, you will be MUCH better off to deal with it as early as possible. It doesn't ever 'go away,' whether it continues to hurt or not, so finding out what is causing the pain and how to deal with it is the ONLY option you have.

Losing weight, wearing the right shoes, getting good orthotics and adapting your activities to your personal situation are all great things to do but when there is a problem starting to develop, the doctor can give you the best advice.on how to deal with it.

Good luck!

Thank you Peacock! I appreciate your taking time to comment. I will do that; just don't want to spend $$ for shoes. Better than $$$ for foot problems, though.

I definitely agree with Laurie. I had a similar issue when I started running more with walking and went to my local place, PR Running, and after looking at my current sneakers and how I run, I was fitted with a different shoe. Corrected that issue and now I have a place I religiously go to whenever I have an issue or need new shoes! Good Luck to you, but make sure to take care of it so to prevent further damage.

Aha! That may be your culprit. You may want to head to at least a Dick's Sporting Goods and start there. The ultimate place I would advise you to go to is an actual local running show store.

Thanks Laurie! Um, no, I am using running shoes I got from Zappos online. And they are about a year old, although I've mostly just been walking in them. I wear a 10w with bunions so am hard to fit.

Yes. If it is still hurting after rest have it checked by your doctor.

Are you running in fitted running shoes? Did you have a knowledgeable running shoe salesman check you pronation and walking gait? SHoes are vital.

So. . . I am finishing week 3, but the top of my foot (4th metatarsal area), which often aches a bit even with walking, is now hurting bad. I am afraid it may be a stress fracture. I am running on grass too! I am planning to rest it for a few days but I can't stop walking. Any advice?
