I can definitely see how having a visible reminder of who/what you're running for would energize you!

Sounds like a worthy cause; there's always so much more motivation when you have a reason other than self. I would encourage you to have your friends hold signs along the race course to help you with motiviation. I did the Breast Cancer 3-Day in 2007 and I found the husbands (w/ signs and music) along the race route to be great motivators. There was even a breast cancer fighter sitting on the route (crazy thin, no hair and a supportive sign) that kept me from giving up. It's inspiring to have reminders why we're there.

How is your training going?

I'm looking forward to the race. I have the option to turn it into a fundraiser, so I'm raising money for Northern Lights Alternatives in OKC, which works with people infected and affected by HIV. 2 of my closest friends are HIV+, and both work with NLA. They are even getting excited about the run and are making a tshirt for me to wear.

It never gets easier... I just get stronger!

Congrats on taking that step. I just did my first 5K on July 4th. I did so much better than I hoped for despite my spotty training. I agree with other posters, it changes your life!
