Yes...These veterans are grateful for the gratitude. What a great way to teach kids to respect our real American Heroes!

What I enjoyed about celebrating Veterans' Day today was the unity of all Americans...whether liberal or conservative or in the middle of the road...All have joined in honoring our vets and current troops serving. THIS is America....May we never forget that these men and women sacrificed for our rights to disagree in freedom how our government operates...among many other things!

Teniswhiz - what a wonderful and heart-warming tradition. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
On Tuesday, my Dad went to a veterans' breakfast in the town where my parents live (where I grew up). The fifth graders joined them and also sang songs. A sweet little girl sat next to my father and had a lovely conversation with him. It really made my Dad feel cherished and wonderful.

The school I work at remains open on Veteran's Day to learn about and honor our Veterans. We have a HUGE assembly and today, 23 veterans from various wars cam to visit the K-5 students. Fifth graders sang patriotic songs for them and each one was introduced by themselves and they spoke briefly of where they served.

To top the great event off, students had collected money for several weeks for Honor Flight Chicago, where WW II veterans are sent to Washington D.C. to see the monuments, and especially, the WW II monument. The students raised over $3,000.00 this year !!!! It only costs $400.00 to send one veteran for the day. Amazing!

Thank you for your post. And thank you to all veterans for your honorable service. I've seen this video before; it is so honest and touching. Always makes me teary. It sickens me when I read about the people who truly do despise the military men and women. Those are the people who scream about their civil rights, then go on to defame the men and women in the military. How sad it is that they don't realize, or maybe they just don't want to admit, that it is these very men and women who gave them and assured them their right to speak their minds.
We truly do live in the land of the free because of the brave.

Thank you all vets on this team, a personal thank you from me to you, for my freedom.

My dad was WW2, Guam, Guadalcanal, was on a ship headed to be poised to strike Japan in case they didn't surrender. They did and he spent time in Japan, too; he bought my mom's china there and shipped it home, Noritake.

Thanks for sharing.

I read something yesterday that I didn't realize. I always spelled it correctly, but no doubt out of association of reading it so many times.....I had no idea it was "official". Now I know!

Did you know that Veterans Day is commonly written as Veteranís Day or Veteransí Day?

While these spellings are grammatically acceptable, the United States government has declared that the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case is the official spelling of Veterans Day.

Isn't it great we can learn new things every day, regardless of our age?

God bless all our wonderful Veterans. We thank you!
