Kitty,

I Spark mailed you on certain sayings and definitions.

I hope you still respect me after I've revealed a "dark side".

Just a pun.

It is a must a DemocRAT doesn't win. In order for this to happen we have to be smart. Too many times unknown and beatable ones will run and just take away votes from a Conservative who otherwise could win. I am for a solid platform, but I am also for someone that can win.
Often that may be giving a little on the platform. I am as conservative as most, but we need a win come November 10 and 12. A believer and follower of the Constitution is a musty. I want Victory!
We ned Victory!

I like Jindal for president but no matter who is the presidential nominee I think Rand Paul should be VP.

Popeye...you'll have to enlighten me...I've never heard a second half of that saying that I can recall... :D

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. --Ephesians 6:12

Lady Kitty,

I thoroughly enjoyed your reply and strongly support your reasoning.

One thing I need you to be aware of is that words change over time; gay used to mean a sort of giddy happiness, a fairy was an imaginary girl being with two sets of wings, fairy dust and a little magic wand.

Likewise, for someone to call a spade a spade might not fly in today's oh so politically correct speech.

Just FYI, I remember the second half of that old saying - and when I read it, I got a good hearty laugh from it.

"A government big enough to give everything you want is also big enough to take everything you have."

I think it is too soon to say who will be on the ballot, what I want to see is a solid group of people willing to make a run for the Convention. I was sadly disappointed in the last primaries was everyone stepped down and we ended up with the one who did not step down. I would also like to see all primaries run within a couple of weeks from beginning to end, instead of dragged out for months. Also do not want any caucuses this time, only by vote and not the mess that happened in the last election, though it was by the Democrats it could happen in the Republicans as well. Whoever does get the nomination, the need to be conservative and Constitution bound.

"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government."

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. "

I have to say, in regards to Rommney, I'm HIGHLY suspicious of any "republican" (including Scott Brown) who can get elected in the heart and sould of "liberal-land" (aka Massachussetts). I just flat-out don't trust him. However, IF he won the primaries and was running against either BO OR Hilbilly, he'd get my vote. That's just a no-brainer.

I think Sarah Palin's got great ideas too, but she lost a lot of my respect when she bailed as governor of Alaska. I personally think she burned her bridges by doing that. If you demonstrate that you aren't able to fulfil the obligations of the office to which the people elected you, as she did, then, in my opinion, you haven't earned the "right" to expect people to support you upon campaigning for a bigger and "better" office. Just by that one decision, she proved to me that she WILL capitulate when the fire gets hot enough from the Dems.

So, I don't know WHO's going to rise to the top for us in 2012. But I tell you what I'd LIKE to see. I'd like to see someone who is a hard-nosed conservative, but who doesn't present himself (or herself) as guns-a-blazing, out-for-blood. I think, instead of marketing him or herself as a "rogue" as McCain and Palin have tried, unsucessfully to do, this person needs to talk openly and frankly about our Constitution, about a strict adherence to those words that were so plainly written long ago. This person needs to address the fact that out-of-control spending, buying votes, taking over every aspect of our economy, sueing the states for taking action in light of the fed's dereliction of duty, thumbing our noses at our close allies (such as Israel) and calling those who seek to murder Americans "friends" was NOT what our founders envisioned for this country as they bled the battlefields red, and it shouldn't be what WE as a nation complacently settle for today as our own military bleeds.

I think this person should at least one full term of some sort of government-elected office under his or her belt, and that he or she should wave his or her birth certificate proudly for all of America to see. He or she should NOT have every record known to man "sealed" so that we, the people, are not privy to his or her past, and he or she needs to be forthcoming and open about any skeletons in his or her closet. In addition, I believe that, striving to be Commander-in-Chief of our military, he or she should have served in said military in some capacity, and have an HONORABLE and HONEST service record to show for it. At the VERY minimum, any man who wishes for us to vote for him out to wave his selective-service registration under our noses. This person, ideally, would be a TRUE Christian, but at the very minimum, this person needs to be someone who will acknowledge and honor America's Judeo-Christian roots, and who will not seek to eradicate all traces of God from this country.

This person needs to be frank with the American people, and needs to be able to call a spade a spade (or in this case, the BO Show and his Caped Congress, liars and crooks)...but with a spoonful of sugar (since many American's don't "handle" the ugly truth very well). He or she needs to do a little bit better job of "explaining" his or her beliefs, keeping in mind that many potential voters have been so dumbed down by MTV and American Idol that they have no idea how their government was INTENDED to operate. He or she needs to TELL the American people how it was intended to operate and TELL the American people how he or she intends to make sure that it operates within those guidelines.

This person needs to, not only reject the "race" card (because we know that now matter WHO runs against BO--even another black person--it will be coming out), but make a concerted effort to point out the fact that we will NEVER be equal as long as we continue to view race as some sort of excuse for the injustice that is, in fact, life. This person needs to remind people that MOST Americans today have a history of challenge/discrimmination, whether African, Indian, European (those white immigrants were treated like garbage too, especially if they were Irish or Italian), Mexican, or Martian, but that it's long past time where history should remain in the past, not to be dredged up every time a challenge comes up in one's life today (or something more eloquently and delicately put...that spoonful of sugar again...).

Think such a person exists???

Hey Caroline! I didn't know you were on this team! No wonder I like you so well! You've got your politics straight too!
emoticon
First time I've seen you on this thread.... And I used to be on here a ton!

I agree about the Palin deal. I think she has great ideas and all...but she is marred by the press to the point that ....let's just say....she is to the liberals what Nancy Pelosi is to us Conservatives. I fear she would only widen the gap between the two parties even further. OK...I do enjoy that she ignites lightning into their little comfy world...I have to admit! She is one feisty woman!

You are right about Newt...He is brilliant! AS for career politicians....most are. BO is the rare one coming out of nowhere. It's what worked in an era of people sick and tired of the usual politics....but they soon found out he was full of hot air and just like the rest of them. He's got puppet written all over his face as the front man for the old socialist party her represents.

Jindal....might need more time to develop. But it could work. I think he runs his state well and it's been interesting to see him fight for his state with the Gulf oil crisis that's been going on.

Romney....Something doesn't sit right with me, but whatever that something was, certainly seems insignificant in light of who sits on the throne now! LOL

Conservatives really need to get busy grooming some people. It's too bad McCain is as old as he his. I wasn't nuts about him during the primaries, but he rapidly gained my trust. Throughout the Obama reign, I've really come to like his comments/views, etc. about what is going on in Washington these days and clearly explains why and what he feels should be done instead.

I really don't know who I'd like to see run for 2012 but given the current situation, any one of you would get my vote! LOL! All I know is, what's going on now has got to stop!

I think I heard some rumblings about Romney possibly making another run. I wasn't crazy about him at the beginning of the campaign, but got to like him a bit more as time went on.

The problem with Palin is that the public still sees her as a pretty face from the back woods of Alaska ("I can see Russia from my house"), who doesn't know a thing about international politics, much less the leaders of foreign countries. I don't know much about Jindal, but what I have seen I'm not too keen on him.

I do like Newt. I like that he has a lot of good, common sense ideas; right now the only problem I have with him is he is a career politician. Yet I think he is a brilliant man who would do a good job. I also think he has backbone and strength and his ego doesn't bruise easily.

In any event, it is going to be a very interesting 2012.

Even though she "settled" for a position in BO's camp, I think that, even though she's a Dem, Hillary has an elephant's memory, and she feels that the presidency was stolen from her by BO.

While she's been acting the good little trooper (which is the best thing for her), she has been garnering a somewhat positive image and is reminding Dem's that at least they have a general idea what they'd be getting with her as President (which I think is a huge mistake, we know what she is).

A number of Dem's seem to be having second thoughts about BO, and I think she just might pull it off - beating BO that is.

As for our (Conservatives) best bet? We know that a lie told often enough is often taken for fact. Both Newt and Sarah, while excellent candidates, have been tarred and feathered by the left so often and so much, I just don't see them being able to get a campaign going that would appeal enough to the Centrists to be able to carry it off. Their strongest positions might very well be to become the powers behind the thrown and campaign long and hard for a third person.

We know that we are basically out-gunned in registered voters, including felons and illegals, so a pragmatic consideration would have to go to one of the principals (Presidential candidate) being a stealth conservative.

Who that could be is not readily apparent at this point. Of course, there is always the possibility we conservatives might not be able to field a candidate with enough charisma and gravitas to beat Hillary.

Trying to find a politician with morals is sort of like trying to find a fish in the desert in Nevada. It seems recently that a lack of morals is one of the qualifying traits to get into government positions. Moral folks can't stand on a podium and lie through their teeth (they sweat effusively, their hands shake and their voices quiver when they attempt to lie).

Still think it won't happen in almost any scenario. For her: Best case, is an either/or he's re-elected and done in 4 years or he's defeated and she's looked at as the heir apparent (NOBODY wants Biden, for gosh sakes...) and a good soldier, especially if she leaves the cabinet and campaigns for Democrats in the Congressional races. Worst case: she challenges him and loses and becomes either a "sour grapes" loser if he wins, or delivers the election to the GOP if he loses.

DON'T WRITE HILLARY OFF YET! FOX News political experts having been talking a lot about this lately. They really believe Hillary is going to take advantage of Obama's slipping ratings and run against him. I didn't think she would either, but they've been talking about it a lot...and mentioning that if anyone could win against him, it would be her...another first minority to get in, kind of thing.... Face it...the woman isn't going down or away without a good fight!

President Obama will certainly run for re-election on the Democrat side. Barring a major upheaval, I don't see Hillary challenging him, but I do see her leaving the cabinet to prepare for another try in 2016.

GOP side is harder to figure...Gingrich, Palin, Jindal, Pawlenty, Giuliani, Barbour, others, may test the waters early on...still an opening for a "dark horse" if , say, Meg Whitman wins in CA.
