MajorDadVt,

Thank you for the explanation. You don't owe anyone an explanation, but I was certainly happy to read it.

I'm actually glad I didn't understand what you were saying - and since it was really addressing another topic, well, Whew!

As a retired banker, I can tell you I have seen more than enough pieces of fake ID. I became so familiar with them I thought of taking a second job at some night spot, just checking ID's (No I didn't, but hey, old men have dreams of fantasy).

MY Personal feeling was that every time I was given a fake ID by an obvious illegal (they preferred to come to me because I spoke Spanish), I should have called the INS or local police.

In a (wink, wink) roundabout sort of way (nudge, nudge) I was reminded that I wasn't REALLY an expert on ID's and to report a potential customer could be counter-productive to the bank - and to my future.

The funny thing is that I AM an expert when it comes to fake ID, courtesy of Uncle Sam. When I let this be known, the response was, "But you don't work for Uncle Sam now, do you?"

I could tell that I had pushed to the limit of the bank's patience, and since my DW and I both worked for the same bank . . . I've always been able to spot a direct hint in a business or military setting.

My educated guess is that in Kansas City there are probably 400-500 accounts per business day opened for illegals.

The one person I did report for "Suspicious Transactions" generated a report to the FBI. I was told to continue to accept his money until we were told differently by the FBI.

Background: He was supposed to be a Jordanian immigrant, but his accent was Iraqi or Iranian. He was a cab driver and at the end of every week he'd deposit between $7,000 and $9,000 at our branch. I was looking at his banking records one day and found that he was making those same sized deposits (all in cash) at five other branches in our general vicinity. The next Tuesday he would wire it to a business in Chicago.

After he was picked up, I found that the business in Chicago then donated the money to an Iranian "Orphans Home", which was a blind for funneling money to Al Qaeda.

The FBI finally rolled everything up here, in the US, and the CIA did the same with the Iranian officials in Iran.

The AIC in KC let me know that because of my initial notification they had rolled up a criminal enterprise sending more than $10,000,000 to foreign terrorists. HOORAH!

I may not be able to physically mix it up, but being involved in that operation, even if just on the very fringe, made my day, week and month.

The point was that this gentlemen was forced to provide proof of citizenship or Birth Certificate to run for Congress. When he questioned if this was now public information he was informed "YES" and that anyone could come in and require to view the information. When he asked if he could see Obama's they were not able to provide ANYTHING. So I am not sure what your point was really addressing?

I assumed, apparently incorrectly, that we were discussing the overall issue of illegal immigration. My post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, in that I don't see an easy way to prove citizenship or immigration status other than a green card for legal immigrants/residents/workers. A Driver's License for example can easily be obtained either from the state by subterfuge, or illegally by counterfeit (Ask any eighteen year-old who wants to buy alcohol) -- same for a Social Security Card (which, by Federal Law, is NOT supposed to be used for Identification purposes), For native-born Hispanic-Americans, for example, they would not have nor need a Green Card -- how could they prove their citizenship as no one (especially BO, apparently) carries a Birth Certificate around with them. A Birth Certificate, further, wouldn't help any naturalized citizen and they don't need a Green Card either. Same is true for natives of Puerto Rico, who are, by law, citizens of the US by birth and can travel freely (no visa nor Green Card needed) to and from the mainland and immediately register to vote in the community in which they settle. The same is true for natives of Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and the (former) Canal Zone.

I agree that it seems that the President is obfuscating the issue and could easily clear it up, but I also fail to see how anything could be truly foul and have not been dug up by his opponents in the Illinois Senate race (Democrat and Republican), the Bush Administration or the GOP National Committee when he announced his candidacy or during the campaign, or his Democrat rivals, especially Hillary Clinton and the (in)famous Clinton machine who are not known for playing softball.

The implied conspiracy would have to include both political parties, the INS, and the overall legal system, which is a little too much for me to conceive of. I think we can better use our time to elect candidates in November to limit government and we Republicans need, as a party, to express positive ideas for the future of the country (as we did in 1994) as opposed to simply saying "no" to everything the other party proposes -- tat, while often necessary to prevent the tyranny of the majority, is a recipe for long-term minority status as we found out from 1933-1995 (being permanently anti-New Deal might have been right, but it was dead right until we came up with new and positive approaches).

I agree that we need to turn around the direction we're heading in, especially with regards to the enormous deficits we're running and soon to be unbearable debt we are accumulating, most of which is owed to people who really don't like us very much (China, Saudi Arabia, etc., unlike the debt of other countries, say Japan, which, while equally burdensome, is domestically held for the most part). At what point do those creditors start influencing not only economic policy as they now do, but other issues like the status of Taiwan and Israel? Also, Social Security and Medicare are teetering on the edge of insolvency. No one on either side of the aisle seems to have the political will to address any of this. The "full" retirement age, the overall funding source(s), the present earnings cap on FICA all need to be addressed, distasteful as we may find it to so do.

Whether or not you believe in climate change/global warming/whatever, our dependence on imported petroleum, and on fossil fuels in general, is a problem -- it is a national security issue IMHO, in that we are hostage to foreign states that, again, don't like us very much and/or are highly unstable. We need to rebuild and expand our domestic power sources, starting with domestic natural gas (as T. Boone Pickens has proposed)building generation III/IV nuclear plants to replace aging facilities, supplant coal and gas fired plants, and expand our baseline electricity generation for the availability of fuel-cell and plug-in electric vehicles. Petroleum is becoming too valuable to burn, given that it is key to the production of plastics and other key components. Other forms of generation, such as wind, tidal, and solar, may well have a place, but not as baseline sources -- for one thing, their footprint/megawatt is far too high.

This is a project that, like the Interstate Highway System proposed and brought to fruition by President Eisenhower, is, IMHO, a proper use of federal funding as a national defense project (the Interstate Highway System was built under the National Defense Transportation Act). It sure beats bailing out failed banks, investment houses, and car makers as well as people who overreached on their credit -- it produces real assets, increases national security, improves air quality, improves our balance of payments, provides thousands of well-paying jobs, and in the end, increases tax revenues and reduces the deficit -- just as the Interstate Highway System did.

If I misinterpreted your original post, I'm sorry -- again, I was posing a somewhat cynical question as to how to properly identify a "legal" immigrant -- after all, the Russian spies just swapped all were here illegally, having lied on their visa application, and they all had Green Cards...

Sorry to all for the long post...

MajorDadVt,

Your question, "Should we have a National ID to prove citizenship ..." is a topic changing ploy I have observed being used by.

You've been a member of our group for a long, long time, and your question makes me wonder if I understood what you were getting at.

We're not discussing the citizenship of anyone but Barrack Hussein Obama, who has acted in a very duplicitous manner by not being able to provide a birth certificate and has sealed all of his school records.

He could have easily eliminated this whole thing by being as 'transparent' as he led us to believe. Maybe he planned this whole scenario to split the focus of conservatives.

Transparent government? Not in the last two years. Back door deals, 'bribes' of officials in Nebraska and Louisiana to get votes for his tragically expensive health plan. His desperate bid to get a major Amnesty program - while there is virtually nothing done to protect our borders from thousands of illegals per day.

Obfuscation and transparency are about as far apart as two words can get, IMHO.

I was talking to my nephew-in-law tonight and he voted for BO and said everything was fine and there was no way this administration was ever going to take our guns away and the conservatives (of which he's always been one) are making "a mountain out of a molehill". I reminded him BO still hadn't proved he was even an American citizen and why had he spent 2 million dollars to cover up and seal all his documents?

He had nothing to say after that.

That was suppose to be what your Social Security ID was to be. This is the Birth Certificate that when asked about Obama's did not exist.
