Thanks Major Dad. Mark Levin - he's a REAL constitutional lawyer - is always talking about Federalist papers, refers to them in an off-hand way one has when you know all about a subject . . . while I on the other hand know nothing . . . so I'll add that to my 2010 reading list.

It can be hard slogging at times, but I really recommend that you read The Federalist Papers for a real insight as to the thinking of the founders. It contains the writings of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay supporting the ratification of the Constitution by New York in 1787-88. It's available in paperback and on line at the Library of Congress website: thomas.loc.gov/home/histdox/fedpaper

Well, I didn't know there was a 10 question quiz also, but I aced it. I don't recall Haym Salomon so that was a lucky guess.

From yesterday: I finally had to Google "Jon and Kate", and the best I can tell, it's one of those reality shows. I don't do reality shows. Actually, I don't do very much reality.

60%, 6 out of 10. I have read the Constitution once (as an adult) since getting the free pocket one from Heritage Foundation. That was since hearing about it on this team; so I've read it once since Jul08. At the time I was amazed at all the stuff I either never even heard of much less knew, or, the stuff I'd forgotten. I KNOW we studied the Bill of Rights in school, but, I totally did not know (must have completely forgotten?) that the first ten amendments are the Bill of Rights.

Mark Levin's book, Liberty and Tyranny, has alot of teaching of basic concepts (and history?) in the firts two chapters. Probably broader than just the war, tho. It's on my reading list, as is re-reading the pocket Constitution from Heritage. I'll probably never know things like "the last major battle", but, the rest I believe is enexcusable ignorance for any American, beginning with myself.

My score tells me I'm no history buff. I am ashamed to admit I got 11 wrong and 19 correct. Seems I failed this one big time. I better hit the books and do more studying. BTW...I also got the Jon and Kate question wrong also...

On the 10 question version, I got 9/10. The only one I got wrong was the slave one, which never even came up for me to answer. But I would have gotten it wrong anyway.

On the 30 question one, I got 25/30. I missed the westernmost battle one (who knew??), the form of law one, the Ben Franklin movement one (I had it narrowed down to 2, but picked the wrong one!), and, believe it or not, the one about how many states there were at the end of the war. (I was thinking ahead of myself on that one!)

Overall, I'd say I did pretty well, considering most people couldn't even pass it!

i got a perfect score... of course it helps that I massively studied this era of our history in college (it was one of my majors) and that I have lived immersed in the era as well (as a reanactor). That and I'm currently reading the Politically In Guide to the Founding Fathers.

I missed the slave, but should have gotten it by process of elimination. One of the others was dead before the Revolutionary War, another wasn't yet born, and the third made no sense...

I missed the last battle, the slave, and the jewish immigrant question...I should have known the last battle, but I don't think I ever learned about the immigrant or the slave in any of my history classes...

What was the average score? I didn't see that info on the quiz. I got 23/30. Wish I could say I missed the one about John & Kate (???)!

Have you taken this? Got the link from Glenn Beck's newsletter. I'm ashamed to say I only got 73% (22/30). I'm even more ashamed that I did better than most of the Americans they gave the quiz to!

(link posted in later message - sorry)
