I'm not doing very well tracking my activity or checking in. I'm doing it, but then other things happen and I completely forget to check in on the site.

I have a question. If I am already walking 7-8 miles everyday, do I still have to do the plan for the first 3 days? My walks last more than 25 minutes.

God will not give you anything you can't handle.

Just go ahead and track it under day 3 of your 4th week. Don't get caught up in the idea of 7 days = a training week.

I am in week 4 and for health reasons I have been off a couple of days last week but still managing cross training between my walks. I was unable to do the third walk of the week yesterday but planning to do that this afternoon. How do I input that I did the third walk of week 4 when today is Sunday? The 30 minute walk of week 5 is easy for me to do so I was still planning to do that tomorrow and be back on track.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I am joining the program.. I do a 45 mins yoga prgrm on two days which basically involves deep stretching.. Does that count as cross training.... thanx...
p.s. I read on your sticky topic that yoga is indeed cross training... so query resolved... cheers!

@STACYR31~ The only way to change the dates is to "leave the program" and rejoin, then enter the dates you want. Sorry, they don't allow changes right now, maybe later.

@HUNGRYWOMAN2~Since you have already done the distance your body knows what to expect. While this may not be your fastest 5K, you will be able to do it. You don't say what distances you are doing currently. But if you do weeks 4 & 5 you will be just fine. Have fun!

I always seem to have some questions. Last summer I trained for the 5K, but mostly, at the gym. I then decided to add challenge with more hills and inclines. I have recently found that a local organization is having a 5K. Unfortunately, if I decide to enter I only have 10 training days. Any suggestions for abbreviated workout to see if it would be a feasible thing to do?

I accidentaly entered the wrong dates on the walking training program and I can't figure out how to change it. Suggestions?

Hi all, I am starting week 1 day 2. Yesterday I walked for 8 miles and it felt great. I love that I can get out and walk without having anyone say that I am going too slow or too fast. I alternate between a speed walk and a turtle walk(very slow) and I carry a water bottle that I had in the freezer all night. I live in a suburban area where there are a lot of farms, parks and trails, so I have a lot of places to choose from for my walks. Good luck everyone.

God will not give you anything you can't handle.

KAYYVAUGHN~ If you want your log to show only the actual trainings for the program, you can "leave" the program, rejoin and re-enter the info into the log. You may have to remove duplicates from your fitness page, though.

When you do extra walks, just enter them into your fitness page seperately.

Or if you don't want to go through all that, just enter the trainings you do between now and when you catch up to the log on your fitness page only.

Your choice. Either will work.

@TOOCREATIVES~ First, the reason it says the race is 4 weeks away is that it calculates based on the first day of the virtual race week, and the 9th is 4 weeks out.

Next, you can choose any race for your 5K or just do the distance. It is totally up to you. Go ahead and repeat the last 2 weeks if you'd like and just work toward increasing speed or even your distance.

Hi! I was thinking about joining the Trick or Treat virtual race but since week 5 finishes on Oct 9th-15th, I was wondering if I can sign up for a race on that week and still do the trick and treat race? My plan was to repeat the last 2 weeks of the program between the races.
Also, when I'm trying to join the race on the oct 9th-15th, it says it's 4 weeks away. How can that be?

Thanks!

@CAROLJ35~ Of course you can start over when you get back from your trip. In order to reset the training log you will have to leave the program (at the bottom of the training log) and then rejoin. You don't have to leave the team.

@FREETHEGODDESS~ You can use any 5K distance as your "race" day. It is up to you. To keep training for your actual race day, you can continue to repeat weeks 4 & 5 and just work on speed if you like.

I have pretty much completed the program. All I have left is to enter the info. for "Race day" on the fitness tracker. My 5k race is not until Sept. 24th. I have already walked 3.1 miles several times on my treadmill and entered them on my walking days on the tracker. Do I have to walk an official 5k to enter the "Race day" info. and get my trophy or can I just walk a 5k on the treadmill again and go ahead and enter it as my race since my race is not for two more weeks? Just wondering because I was worried about leaving that day sitting on my tracker for that long plus I want to keep training for my actual race day.
What do you think I should do?
Thanks.

ANYVAR54~ First of all you aren't a failure, because you won't be giving up, you will be putting it on hold until you find out what is causing the pain. Talk to your orthopedist and also maybe a podiatrist. It could be something as simple as the shoes you are wearing or the need for inserts to align your lower body correctly. Also look into doing some strength training to help strengthen the muscles around your knees. This may help with the pain.

You can jump back into the program anytime. We will be here for the long run. Back off and walk what is comfortable for you, just to keep yourself moving.

You can and will be able to do this once you solve the pain issue.

I started this program all gung-ho having never walked a mile before. I spent time walking and made it through the first two weeks, but started having extreme pain in my knees (I had them replaced in 2007) and think that this might not be right for me right now. Will there be future opportunities to do this, because one of my goals is to walk a 5K. Am I a failure if I give up now?

Wow...I just found the fitness maps app in Spark! I was always guestimating my walks (I wasn't too far off) but this is great for adding distance walking around my neighborhood! I knew joining the 5k Trick or Treat Trot would be good for me... :)

PITTERPAT5 - most 5Ks don't have the kind of limitations that Disney has. If a race is designated as a run/walk many times they will have the finish line open for at least an hour. I'd suggest that you find a race, then look at the results from the previous year's race. Look at the time the last person in had and that will give you some idea how long the race course will be open.

I would like to do a 5K walk, but wonder if they usually have a min mph lap time to qualify. For instance, the Disney 5K has a min of a 16 mph to sign up. Slower walkers are picked up and taken to the finish line! Right now I'm walking about 3.2 miles per hour, and a 16 min mile would be 3.75 miles per hour, right? Do most 5K races have this sort of restriction?
Thanks,
Patty

There is no way to "erase" what you have already entered. The only way to reset the training log is to leave the program (not this team) and rejoin. This is how to get there....

1. Go to the SparkTeam page by clicking on the bold underlined "5K Your Way Walking Program"

2. Next click on the red underlined "SparkPeople's 5K Your Way Waling Program" in the team description.

3. This will take you to the "Training Plans" option page.

4. Go about mid way down the page and click on the "Go To Program" button on the "Walking Plan" line.

5. This will take you to your training log. Near the bottom of the page on the right side is a very small red underlined "Leave Team". Click on this.

6. Then go back to the Training Plans page and rejoin the program. This will restart the emails and give you an empty training log.

I started this program this spring but got sidelined because of injury. Is there a way to "erase" previous work and start over. I've seen mention of a training page, but don't know where that is.

RUBYEMMA775 - Don't leave, just start when you can. If you want to have the emails restart, just go to the training program page where you can enter current week.

From what I understand this is an ongoing training program. I would think you could start anytime. Hang in there and don't give up. I'm cheering for you

GREGSTEAM - the average is 2000 steps per mile. If you want to figure out your actual without a pedometer, find an area that has a measured distance like a track and then count your steps over that distance, then multiply up to find your steps per mile.

my questions have been answered by reading some of the posts, but just want to say, that I am encouraged by this opportunity. Never thought that I could walk a mile, and I have already walked 1.5. I do take 30 minutes to walk a mile, but maybe with time I will be able to increase that. I am excited. Thanks, Ravyna

GODDESS181 - Just go ahead and start you program when you can. As for prizes, I'm not sure about any prizes, but you will still get your trophy when you have completed the program. If you want, you can repeat a week or two to have your 5K coincide with your race. Just enter any extra weeks into your fitness page.
