Last night I slept for 7 hours, 7 minutes. That is a high number for me. I took an Advil PM before I went to bed, and didn't wake up once.

at 1 stage
i was going overboard with the fluids, having up to 3.5 litres/day
this caused about 6 bathroom trips/night
now i just have about 2 litres of fluid each day
still feel ok and fewer trips
when i was working over 4 years ago
stress highly disrupted my sleep
cheers

for a number of years, I only got 6 hours of sleep a night with 2-3 trips to the bathroom. This summer I started wearing a darkening mask, and my sleep has gone up to 7 hours, with only 1 time getting up at night.

I was wondering about heat the other day, i tend to like my electric blanket on until the last possible moment when the outside heat soars
and as far as the internet ... that needs a lot of work

One step at a time we can do it!

no internet 1 hour before bed
try to finish eating and drinking 2 hours before bed(ditto with alcohol)
no exercise within an hour of retiring for the night
a warm sweet glass of milk before bed may help
preparing a list of priorities for each day may take away the worry of these at night time
keeping your body on the coolish side may help dropping off to sleep
hope any of these may help
cheers richard

Telstra is the best coverage for remote areas, hands down. Vodaphone is only available in larger cities I am afraid. I had Vodaphone when I first moved to FNQ and it was extremely patchy. I know the costs are better but the coverage is not. Glad you could get a good deal.

Chocking the van does involve putting ramps and chocks under the wheels to make the van level. Yes, it was good that the area wasn't hillier! It is days like those that makes me realise what a new chum I am, but I am learning better practices every day. Just hope I don't kill us in the learning!!

Yes, we do have a very good house sitter. She is wonderful and very happy to have the house while we are away. We were very blessed to find her in time.

Still sleeping well! emoticon

I have a Vodaphone dongle, that we use occaisionally.
It costs us about $125 dollars for about 16 gig that lasts 1 year.
This seems to have good coverage, you can buy these in Woolies or Coles.

Is chocking the van a routine procedure? do you mean wedging the wheels or resting the van on stumps?
Just as well it was probably not too hilly when the van decided to take off.

You sound like you are in your element, holidaying and exploring.

Have you got someone good, minding the house?
Cheers

Lol! Sorry to have frightened you momentarily! We are doing fine. We plan to be away about a year and I have had VERY patchy internet connectivity. I chose Woolworths to buy a phone plan with and it does not have good coverage at all. I had to buy a Telstra dongle for access where the Telstra network works. The Woolies one only uses PART of the Tesltra network. Argh.

You might want to sit down now. We had a near miss with the van the other day. We chocked it wrong and it ran off the chocks. I was at the hitch and madly grabbed it, planted my feet and stopped it rolling! Whew! I guess a bit of weight isn't always a bad thing!!

Sleep issues are almost gone. We are having early nights and mornings while on the road and no problem sleeping after full days of activity sightseeing and bushwalking emoticon

Yes, this life does seem to suit :) There was a big surprise in the early hours of this morning though that broke our sleep. A container in the bathroom came crashing down. Lol! DH is going to silicone it in place so it can't move again. emoticon

Yes, we are already in crocodile country in Cairns. The crocs are certainly creatures we don't want to mess with. If hubby goes fishing, he will probably go out on a charter boat, so hopefully they will take care of him!

I'll let you know what happens/ we aren't going to start over to the gulf country till July.

Is that far enough North where the crocodiles are?

Have to watch those, even in a boat.

Barramundi would be a nice feed.

Yes, hubby is a fisherman. There are lots of places in Qld where you can't fish though. Lol! We will move on to the Gulf soon (in maybe two or three weeks) where he might be able to catch a Barra,

That's a good way to look at it. I have plenty I can be doing - I brought lots of my hobby stuff with me so can always get some of that out on sleepless nights. Hubby doesn't mind. He seems to be able to sleep through anything especially if he uses an eye shade.

I trust you are going well.

Thank you Richard emoticon I am still having problems logging on when on the road. We are stopped with family now for a bit in Cairns so I do have better access for the moment. Thank you for your concern, We will be on the Tablelands from Friday and it is harder to get Internet access there. I hope you are doing well?

Sleeping is going OK, pretty much my usual pattern except I think I get a couple of longer sleeps about twice a week. It's good!

Hi Richard. I have been out of Internet contact pretty much for the past four days. Been sleeping much better though. Last night it was 7.75hrs :)

I wondered if the cooler weather had a lot to do with me sleeping better, and also the more relaxed atmosphere. It feels like we leave our cares behind when we are on the road.

I haven't been drinking the tumeric milk since we left home a few weeks ago. I really think the caravan has a lot to do with sleeping better. Maybe it is the fact that no one can drop in? No one is ringing us at early hours? We have far fewer commitments on the road? Visiting is done in concentrated bursts, instead of constantly? (We do have a lot of traffic in our house, which I love but also am enjoying a break from it).

Hope fully you are developing a more relaxed frame of mind when you go to bed.

No point in trying to solve the problems of the world or the following days issues

I rejoined the meditation and mindfulness team, not that I practise this apart from dozing at the computer sometimes or falling asleep in the recliner of an evening.

Do you think that the current weather and potentially lower temperatures are helping?
Have you still been trying milk before bedtime.?
It would be useful to know in that event that we help others
Cheers

Apologies for being away again. Had to move out of our house and into a friend's as we planned ot go away but this kidney stone stopped that. We didn't want to lose our housesitter or make her homeless.
They removed the stone surgically and now have to remove the stent they placed in there another time. It is feeling better but will be even happier when the stent is removed I think. Not sure how I am sleeping lately. It seems broken but there are obviously reasons for that.

'We interrupt this program due to a minor medical emergency' I'm back now after a short hospital stay for a kidney stone removal. Ugh.

Not sure how I slept the last few nights. Last night it was good to be home. I got 7 hours which was great.

Thanks again, Richard. I will read the article you suggested.

Last night it was 6.5 hrs.

Thank you for that. I'll keep trying to create a good sleep environment. I am getting more 8 hour nights lately (it worked fairly well last night again with me getting about 7 hours).

good news on your last nights sleep

even if we consciously do things which are deemed habits, they can be hard to break

because sleep ties in with body rhythms it is hard for us to consciously control.

all we can mainly do is provide a good sleep environment(preferably by remaining cool and reducing activities before bedtime) and encourage or bodies hormones with the warm, sweet milk until a new cycle is established

Good points, Richard. I can't expect a lifelong habit to be 'fixed' overnight. I'll be patient.

I did get 8 hours last night :)

because the human body patterns are so strong(circadian rhythms)
It may take some time to change these, much like jet-lag
Cheers
