I have begun chair yoga classes. If you don't have a gym, there are many arthritic friendly gentle yoga classes on the Internet.

Lots of my friends and acquaintenances want to know how the stem cell injections are doing. Is it that they want affirmation that they're good? or bad? Or is it just a talking point?

My joints and muscles have gone crazy since the cold spell hit Michigan. Any range of motion exercises or stretches would be greatly appreciated. I have lupus, fibromyalgia and chronic migraines among other issues. My migraines have gone crazy too. Any suggestions would help. I can't use voltaren gel because I'm allergic to it. Also I can't talk any medication because my liver numbers went off the charts, hence all the pain.

It is what it is, or is it?

went to chiropractor today to relieve the pinched nerve that is concurrently causing pain in the legs below my arthritic knees. Some immediate relief. Stem cells appear to be working; less pain and definitely more mobility in the legs and knees.

Concurrent with the osteoarthritis I have a pinched nerve in my spine. The pains shooting down my leg are probably from the pinched nerve and not the arthritis, but they're all concentrated in the left knee/leg. I am doing daily exercises for the pinched nerve but I do not know how they help or hinder the stem cell injections.

Most days I am pain free, but the night pain makes it difficult to sleep restfully,

I take turmeric capsules, but don't think they have helped that much. I'll try the Quenol brand--liquid--and see if it helps. What is the strength Vit C that you use? I'm going to ask my doc about it at the next appointment. Thanks for the info.

Good Morning everyone. If you are like me and suffer with inflammation, I have a remedy for you. QuNol makes a great tumeric supplement. I have taken the liquid (from Costco) and the capsules. Take two a day with a Solgar Vitamin C capsule, and within days you will see a difference! Have a great day! emoticon

Voltaren is over the counter in Canada but not in the US. A few years ago my orthopaedic surgeon in Sarasota, Florida recommended it, but suggested I order from one of the Canadian drug companies. It was about $15---but about $200 or more if ordered even through my drug plan.

Apparently the volatile oils in Elmores oil. Eucalyptus and tea-tree have the pain-reliving effects.
Tea-tree oil is also a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungicide, so although it is not promoted the oil can be useful for dressing things like abrasions and treating tinea..

There is also an over-the-counter tube of cream available called Voltaren which is supposed to give up to 12 hours relief for joints also.

Cheers Richard

Thanks. I also take magnesium, which helps a lot in reducing leg cramps. My doc also said to take turmeric capsules, which supposedly help with inflammation. I've been too deluged with things going on healthwise with my husband and potentially my own that I couldn't comment either way on the turmeric.

When we moved back to St Louis (at least part time) we looked for a one story condominium, but almost all of them here are 2 story. I wouldn't use the 2nd floor, but that is generally where they have the bedrooms, so we opted for a house and found some nice young men who cut the grass at a reasonable price. It was less than having a townhouse or condo with a high condo fee.

It is popular for property developers in Australia to put a few multistorey townhouses on suburban blocks of land when redeveloping.
Years ago these used to be single storey, which were much better for the elderly or infirm who may have been downsizing from larger properties.
This is also adding to the housing affordability crisis in Australia
Cheers Richard

Here's a tip to anyone with sensitive skin. In addition to the arthritis, also have eczema. The dermatologist told me to get a fragrance free, mild moisturizer to help the skin. I found something called CeraVe, "eczema soothing creamy oil". It says that it moisturizes eczema prone skin and has the seal of the Natiaonal Eczema Association.

OMG, my skin is about burned off. The reaction to that stuff was way more intense than eczema. For the first time I could hardly stop myself from scratching it. I could hardly sleep. I contacted the Eczema Association. Their reaction was to put me on their email list and to send me a fund raising request with return envelope for the check that I won't write.

I also called the manufacturer. They grilled me, then got the name of my dermatologist, who had one of her underlings call me to tell me to never give out their name. She was so rude that I got the name of a different dermatologist, won't go there again.

Bottom line, be careful of various creams, whether over the counter or prescription. Don't do as I did, putting it all over the afflicted part. I was bummed out all around by the response I got. I'm at the point of looking up the contact info of the FDA and reporting this stuff.

I have severe arthritis in my right knee and left shoulder. I'm 36years old and I've had surgery on both last year. I tried using voltaren gel but I'm allergic to it. Are there any other prescription creams out there that work? I've tried all the OTC ones with no relief.

It is what it is, or is it?

Never heard of magnesium oil, but I do take magnesium pills. They have helped tremendously to cut down leg cramps.

A friend of mine told me about Magnesium Oil for my knees. I purchased a bottle from my local Vitamin Shoppe. Once I got home, I sprayed some on each knee and rubbed it in. Within minutes I could feel the difference. I now do this prior to going to bed and before I go to the gym. emoticon

My physician said that the Voltarin cream is also available over the counter in Canada. Unfortunately for me, Canada was a long haul from Sarasota, Florida. So instead of the $8 a tube price at that time (2012), I paid about $20 from the local Canada pharmacy in Florida. I got it in the mail from Canada.

My orthopedist in Sarasota, Fl prescribed voltaren cream to sue for thumb arthritis. It was very expensive, even with my insurance, so he suggested getting it from Canada. It did help..

There are topical creams for arthritis such as Voltarin, which is used especially on the knees perhaps your hands may benefit from these

swelling in the hands can be particularly hard to treat if associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Have you tried cold-packs.
Otherwise you may need to see your doctor about getting some strong anti-inflammatories.

despite the fact that I have an armory of anti-inflammatorys at home.
My weight is at a record high and normally each additional kilo causes extra pain.
That I have both psoriasis and arthritis
I just purchased powered glutamine and have had 3/4 of a tablespoon each morning together with psyllium husk in water.to act as slow release.
Glutamine helps heal leaky gut which can contribute to the above conditions and now on day 2 there has been a considerable drop in pain esp. in my knees.
This may may indicate that anti-inflammatories are less effective where a source of inflammation is not being controlled to begin with.
Cheers will keep you posted

Felt good about my steps last. I went over my goal every day, even Saturday. Sunday was not feeling well so only made 1/2 my steps. But this morning with my morning walking laps I pushed it to 20 minutes and did 1.3 miles. I have not been doing my morning walks for a while now, (workers comp fall at work and a car accident a week ago). Last week was only doing 15 minutes and making just over 1/2 mile. So this was a surprise for today.

take care all
Pattie

been a few ups and downs this past month.

Took a fall at work and was on workers comp leave for a week. Went back to work for a week and a half and started with horrible pain in the neck and shoulder. Was off work again for another week. Went back to work with lifting restrictions. Back at work for 3 days and doing good. Pain was going away and I thought the Workers comp Dr. would sign off the claim when I saw him on Tuesday. Friday before I see him I get into a car accident. Pulled out of the parking lot at work had a green light and some jerk ran the red light and hit me. Now it's different pain in the back and neck. I only had the car for 4 months it was brand new. Car is in the shop and I'm trying to get myself fixed.

I've never heard of subchondroplasty procedure before. I did have cortisone shots but quit because I didn't have any cartilage in my joint. I had a mass cut out of my ankle joint last Spring.

Has anyone had subchondroplasty procedure? It may be an option for my worsening mid foot pain from severe arthritis. I've had cortisone shots which have given me release from pain from months, but it seems to be a stop gap measure.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made!

Getting it together again. Last July had surgery on my left knee so now I've had surgery on both knees. Still have the original parts but keep hearing I will need replacement in the future.

Since February I've been doing walking laps around an indoor basketball court. It's a flat surface so easy on the knees. I started out 20 minuted 3 times a week and doing about a half a mile if I was lucky. I am now up to 25 minutes 5 times a week and I'm hitting the 2 mile mark. Very little pain in the knees, (depending on the weather).

Started to do a little strength workout a few time a week now with the stretch bands.

I will try to do some catching up on the post here.

Take care all.

Gods_Serenity, hope that you start feeling better. Chronic diseases are the pits, know too well. Does the water aerobics seem to help a lot? When I had my knee replaced, had PT in Sarasota Fl, where they had a warm therapy pool and undrwater treadmill. It really helped. But the insurance reared its ugly head, so had to stop as they were charging too much. I do understand that costs have to be held down. But it was like heaven being in that very, very warm pool.

Hoping that you get a respite from the pain.

If you were responding to my post. I've had PT a couple of times. On land and in water. I do my PT everyday. When it's humid and the biometric pressure is low, NOTHING will help with pain. I do some relaxation meditation and know this will pass.

Communication with health care providers is key. Write down questions/concerns before you go. Helps prevent forgetting anything. Taking someone with you can introduce another perspective to the dialogue. emoticon

Have you talked to your doc about physical therapy? Last year I was having similar problems and went to PT for a while. The exercises they gave me really helped. Shame on me that I'm not doing them every day now, but still do some of them and going to restart my program on my own.
