Can't go wrong with asparagus--I love the stuff broiled, steamed, or however. My uncle broiled me some with bacon wrapped around it once, and I was hooked on the broiled stuff for life. I like making it with cooking spray and broiling it till it's kind of dry and crispy, then putting some coarse sea salt on it and squeezing lots of lime or lemon on it. If that's on the menu, I just make a lot of that and maybe a sliced tomato and some good cheese and fruit and my family loves it. What a treat!

I like to microwave a sweet potato and put pinto beans or kidney beans on top. I eat this at least once a week, and all the foods are recommended for my dosha. Going to start eating asparagus this week, too.

Local is good; we are so blessed here with the fresh veggies and fruits all the time. I'm in Lafayette and we have a couple of major veggie stands and a bunch of others scattered around.

LETHE9 - I didn't know you were in LA. That's where my heart lives. I used to live in Biloxi, MS and I miss the South so badly. I never really minded the heat/humidity too much, but maybe that's because I always had a sit-on-my-butt-in-the-A/C kind of job. I was just talking to my friend there today because my Mom offered to pay for my flight to New Orleans for my brithday (08/12). I think I'm going to put it off for now due to some scheduling issues, but I REALLY want to go!

Yeah, I have been trying really hard to eat more beans and more greens this summer. I love Mexican and Cajun food. I'm taking a cooking class in August about eating locally grown veggies and cooking with more whole grains and beans. Hopefully I'll find more inspiration to actually COOK in the class!

I've been going border-Mexican a lot lately--always said that if I want great Mexican food then I eat at home--you can put anything in a small corn tortilla with some chopped lettuce or cabbage and tomato and homemade salsa and it will taste great. Probaby making some black bean tacos today since I made beans yesterday. Eating ayurvedic doesn't have to be all Asian food all the time. I have noticed that a lot of the foods in the hot, more tropical parts of the world work just fine for lowering the pitta imbalances we tend to get here in the summer. After living in California and W. Texas for so long, coming back to Louisiana is like living in a steamy jungle. In the winter (what little we get) my go to dish is noodles with those bamboo shoots in oil and kim chi. It seems to work great for both comfort food and to help with Vata issues.

This week I made some wonderful Asian lettuce wraps. I mixed up parts of the recipes from the Elemental Om website with some recipes from here on SP. I also added a habanero pepper and wooowee were those wraps spicy!

Probably fried chicken, homemade potato salad, and fresh pineapple today, because my friend is coming over.

I am very new to ayurveda. I am working on changing my diet habits. I recently started making some ayurvedic recipes that were shared with me by my yoga studio.

Here is a link to the recipes:

So far I have tried the Breakfast Dahl; the Roasted Corn, Black Bean and Mango Salad; and Otto's Easy Beans. Today I think I'm going to try to make the Asian Lettuce Wraps.

I'd love to hear what everyone else is eating!
