The last day of July and it is still HOT HOT HOT and HUMID HUMID HUMID here and we have several very large fires burning here all over CA - Fortunately, none in my area and I have my fingers crossed.
I am just finishing my last load of laundry and getting ready to hop in a nice cold shower.

Then have a few errands to run.

Then I think I will go sit in the library for a while - they have comfortable seats and AC !!!

Hope you are all staying cool and that none of you are threatened by any of the large fires burning around the country.

Hubby and I went to Lowe's yesterday and purchased some closet shelving so my master closet can be a bit more organized. It is a very large closet (hubby has his own) with only one shelf with a place to hang clothes all the way around the whole closet. No real place for folded items. Part is going to be a linen closet so we don't take up all the room in the hall closet the kids use. The rest will be for my folded items like tank tops and shorts. I will still have ample hanging space. One thing I love about this newly built home is the closets are huge, even the kids have walk-ins. that project will get done in the next few days, as soon as hubby has some time to hang the shelves.

I'm looking forward to sorting and purging a lot of clothes. I still have 3 moving boxes in my closet of linen closet items and clothes. Plus I have a bin of purses and totes that needs thinned out. So today is my planning day - meal plans, calendar, and project planning.

I just got back from three days in the mountains. Cleaned the trailer before we left and washed three load of clothes from the trip. It was a beautiful 73 degrees when we left the trailer and back at home it was almost 100. I want to go back to the cooler weather. emoticon

Too hot to clean or organize anything. I'm headed back to the public library to my knitting group - AHHHH they are air-conditioned.

Hope no one is experiencing the heat we are - with no AC.

Going through the kitchen on a keep or pitch bender, we realized that we were not really using this little cabinet beside the stove. It's a little too small to be really useful and we'd taken the shelf out and put it on the bottom and had a rack with lids in it - that was it.

We emptied it out and started matching up lids with pots & pans. There were a few lids to pots that we no longer own and a couple of pots that we never use. That was easy enough.

Then we reorganized the cabinet with the pots and pans and put a few things that we use regularly like cutting boards and measuring bowls in the little cabinet.

We're going to try this our for a bit and see how it works out. I like having things spread out and easy to get to. Most of the bowls in this cabinet were inside a lasagna pan and it was all stacked up so fingers were in danger when people cooked.

This is the "after" shot

Still HOT HOT HOT - I'm having lunch this afternoon with friends and we are meeting at the local ice skating rink - not skating - just enjoying the temps.

Well I kind of fell off my minimalist challenge. I have just been really busy. I plan to make up for it this week. Desk is gone! I have space in my dining room again, filled with boxed of yard sale stuff So, for what I have done....purged my night stand, under the bathroom sink and 3 pairs of pants that were worn out but I kept wearing because I loved them. This week I am going to get to game closet, end table, linin closet, my wardrobe. I also have a project, took 2 I think they are shelves for nick knacks that hang on the wall. They are beautiful but, have these ornate points on screws very 70's. They are on the top and bottom. The plan is to change all but 2 of the deco screw for regular ones. Once complete 1 is getting hung up in my living room for deco that is setting on my bookcase that needs a perm home. The other is going to be my jewelry box. it will need some 3m hooks for my necklaces and I will glue my ring organizer inside (from current box). This will replace my broken jewelry box. I hope to remove 300 things from my home this week. Not to hard with all this clutter!

OMG it is so hot here in Southern Calif. and it is suppose to get hotter over the next few days. I went to the library for a few hours earlier today and then came home and took a nap.
But with no AC it was not a restful nap.
I plan to spend a lot of time tomorrow at the library - in the AC and will take my knitting and a good book.
My neighbors just put in a new AC unit and it was just in time.
I have doors and windows open and a couple fans going........but it is miserable weather for sleeping.

PS my cleaning ladies came this AM, so I do have a nice clean house

Saturday, I changed sheets, dusted all of the ceiling fans (5 of them), washed 2 loads of laundry and folded and put away. Cleaned the bathroom sink and toilet and cleaned the tub mat. Took out 2 bags of trash.

Day 10-14 update. Still going strong! I have purged at least 100 items from my home so far +5 bags of trash that I didn't count in that number. I now have completely emptied my giant executive desk out. Purged everything but a small 10 gal storage tote. Inside is all my papers, photos, office supplies (pencils, pens, notebooks, calculators, software, CD-ROM for my laptop and cords, etc.) The only thing I have outside this box is my printer and 3 reams of paper and tower computer with monitor. The computer hard drive is scheduled to be cleared and the entire system to be sold at the yard sale next month. Tomorrow the desk is going to the dumpster. Next week is clothes and closets.

Hi All - I just returned from a 3+ week mission trip to Guatemala to build energy efficient stoves. ( I also enjoyed a previous trip a few years ago to do the same thing..)
One of my goals was to keep my tiny suitcase organized and I'll admit that I totally failed !!!
What a mess.
But it is wonderful to be home and to have some very treasured memories of helping the needy Guatemalan People.
When I sort through my photos - I'll post one to share with you all.

This Month I am taking the minimalist challenge. I am getting rid of one item for each day of the Month. For Example today is the 10th and I will be purging 10 items from my home. Day 1-9 came and went quickly and easily. However, as you can imagine, it gets harder and harder. I have attempted this once before and quit about day 12. That is why I am reaching out. I really need to do this for myself. I am clutter bug borderline hoarder. So far some of my top items. Pet stuff from pets that passed away May and prior. I donated them to the OHIO Wildlife Center. I was even able to donate 20 lbs of food to them that they said they can you for many species there. It'll be nice to see the little huts I gave. I threw out an old broken dresser that I have saved for 2 years because I wanted to fix it. I got rid of several half burned candles that don't smell anymore. This weeks goals are to get my giant solid wood desk cleared out so it can be removed from my house too. I do not have a place for my desk stuff yet, so I lot will be removed. I also hope to get my clothes together by the end of the week because that is next weeks purge. I can use all the support with this as I can get.
