Travelbug I am sure trying. When DH is gone I get a lot more done!

I have most of the gifts purchased and under the tree. We mostly buy for the kids. I do need to make some candied pecans for neighbors for Christmas. I may wait a week so it is December before I do that. I have my cards all mailed. I'm good this year!

I have my little to do list I work off of all the time. Of course I move what I don't get done one day to the next. Often it is my "reminder" list since my memory is so bad. But, I love checking off things!

Your comment on hooks reminds me I didn't write down to buy some magnetic ones to hang our grilling utensils on the freezer. My husband gets so frustrated looking for them and I think it is a good place for them since it is by the back door. Now to find a pen to write it down. LOL

Boy - it really sounds like many of you are really making progress.
I understand getting rid of stuff that I have "clung" to the past - it feels so good to get rid of it
and freeing.
Tonight I will start our new thread for December........ November sure went by quickly.

I'm not ready for Xmas at all - I am starting to make a list
- I need cup hooks to hang behind my eaves to hand holiday lights - no more getting up on a 6 ft ladder with a staple gun.....those days are over for me.

We have been very mobile the past years. We have a 100 year old home we are restoring. That is why we had things stored. It became impossible to work on it while living in it and we bought a small one story dirt cheap for when we get too old to do the stairs. We decided to remodel it first and finish the old home from a comfortable place. So, we are almost finished with the small one story home and I have been going through the boxes and getting rid of things. You know what happens when things are stored and you can't find them. you buy more!

We just finished a new shed where we can store items so I am going through my holiday boxes so I can store them. It is so hard to give away things you love that you have not been able to display. I'm trying to be tough and get rid of them if I don't feel "joy". I'm doing pretty well. If the big house was done a lot of my storage would be out!

We have two houses

Beth thanks for explaining the one touch rule. I think that is what I did when I Marie Kondo my clothes. It made it quick to go through things.

Diana I am not sure I felt joy with some of the things I kept but I did have adverse reactions to some things I got rid of.... I wanted them gone, no second thoughts. When you say - two houses and one filled with storage, are you talking 2 houses or 3 houses. Poor dear that is a lot to do.

I did bedding and it was quite a job rounding it up, sorting it. Now the keep stuff is nicely organized in one place. I donated some beautiful hand crocheted blankets and throws in like new condition. I thought how someone who needed them or really appreciated the artistry would take them home and put them in a place of honor or chuck them on a bed and stay warm.

When I did the kitchen I took everything out of the cupboards. I cherry picked the best of the best. I had too many of some items so I removed them and made space for organizing knives in the drawers and there are a few open spaces in cupboards.

I find food savers to still be klutzy and hard to organize.

Lynn I liked your comments. I do like her catchy phrase about keeping it if it brings you joy. I get that. I'm in transition right now with two houses and one filled with storage. We are working on both houses so I can't even go through some things right now but I may give it a try. Did you do anything but clothes? There are so many things we keep because we can fit into them even though they don't bring us "joy". Good advice.

Today I went to pick up two quilts for granddaughters. I need to bind them tomorrow. I couldn't find eyeglasses I liked so I'm waiting until I find something I like. I have to live with them for at least a year.

Before I went to town I paid half my property taxes and one of my car tags. Not nice to send out bills in December!

I used up produce that was getting to the "iffy" point for dinner tonight, plus some veggies that had been in the freezer way too long.

"one touch rule".......I use this alot for work when dealing with a messy project. If I pick up a piece of paper I have to deal with said piece of paper. I can not put it aside to deal with later, I am only allowed to touch each piece of paper ONE time. does that make sense.

Hi team wow the month flew by.

ANNEMARGAR good for you unpacking what you can. We moved 5 years ago and just finished renovations this fall. We are still unpacking and donating.

CHICKADEE031 your cat is beautiful.

IMREITE that's great that you can help your grandmother with a little (or a lot) of cleaning.

KNUCKLES145 how is your assistant working out? What is the "one touch rule"? That is too funny not being ready for the housekeeper but I get that. It's putting all the stuff away so she is only cleaning not clearing.

LACOYTA you sound like your organizing is going well.

TRAVELBUG12 Are you a long time yoga devotee? I know how happy everyone in CA is with rain, I hope you get enough.

There is an free audiobook (4 hours 50 minutes) on youtube - The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing Audiobook. Sometimes I listen to it when I am Sparking.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkez1a7vuc0

CAMEOANDLACE I watched a Maria Kondo youtube video where a woman decluttered her clothes using the method. It inspired me to do the same thing. You are not supposed to try on the clothes but I had to as I lost weight this year. Here is my blog

Maria Kondo Declutter Clothes - Done!

Tuesday, May 03, 2016

Hubby built a wonderful walk in closet and it's finished now. Monday I did the Maria Kondo method of decluttering my clothes, where you gather your clothes together from ALL over the house. Next group like things together and quickly pick out the things to keep and get rid of the rest. Don't think about what you will do with the rest that comes later. It's quick and painless.

It only took 2 hours to gather up all the clothes of all sizes, heap them on the bed and sort them into pants, shirts, etc. I tried on most of them (great exercise) and weeded out my too big clothes. Now my bedroom looks like a mountain range with big heaps of clothes all over the floor.

What I discovered -

1) I only have a few pairs of pants and I wear the same blue jeans and black jeans most often.
2) Regardless of size I buy the same types and colors of clothes - pink, black, blue.
3) There are like new clothes, only worn a couple of time. I never liked them even when I bought them.
4) I can do with much fewer clothes. That will happen as I lose more weight and donate more.
5) I have new clothes that I may never wear because by winter they will be too big.
6) Crazy I have clothes with tags on, I have never worn and I am donating!
7) It seems like I am missing a few things but I am not sure what they are.

Wow it was amazing! It took me 2.5 hours to go through everything.

I put the donations into a huge tote and struggled to get it down the stairs. Then I got curious - how heavy is the tote? 30 pounds!!! That's how much I have lost this year.

So far I'm not impressed with the book. It sounds a little crazy to talk about clothes and items as though they have feelings! I'm 1/4 done with the book and nothing to help yet.

Today I went to the eye doctor. I was surprised that my eyes got better! I don't know how that happens. He said I have the beginnings of cataracts but they aren't bad yet.

I bought two gifts for kids in the family. Got batteries which we always need at Christmas.

I had to go buy 20 more Christmas stamps. Now my cards are all off.

I looked out and we had rain as well. Yesterday was very cold for this time of year.

I took down fall and worked on putting out Christmas. I will do it a little each day. Today I got out my new salad plates from Walmart with a Woody hauling a tree. I then got out my husband's blue car and old fashioned fire truck that I had sent him flowers in. I put little trees and packages in the back. That is my centerpiece for my holiday table this year. I put up a wreath I bought from Joanns at 60% off that looks like snowballs. I set a little table under it and will buy some letters spelling out Joy at Joanns with some faux white fur and cover them and display on the table.

I bet you can't tell I enjoy Christmas!

I gave away a pie and a gallon of milk that was purchased for Thanksgiving. I won't use them so they won't go to waste.

I'm now reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Hopefully something will help me to purge better in this book.

No matter what we call it at least it gets picked up!

Today I had to go to a funeral for a sorority sister,

I took two bags of clothes to my SIL. I cleaned up the house and took more cards to mail.

Now I'm enjoying cheesy Hallmark movies.

knuckles - I am the same as you with the cleaning person. I put everything away and I mean everything.....counters are bare etc.
Because I want the focus to be on cleaning - just like you.

Everyone says to me "you clean your house before the cleaning crew????"
I think of it more as putting stuff away.

Travelbug I too worked very hard the past few days. The kids left my house clean with the exception of the spilled turkey juice in the oven. I'm soaking it right now. The kids put up my tree since my husband is in South America until almost Christmas. The house is pleasant and very quiet.

I have done some online ordering for my DH today. I have company coming tomorrow so I will look at my to do list but not expecting to do very little today.

Worked my tail off today - helping with Thanksgiving meal for my very large family.
Other than a few minutes to eat - I was on my feet in the kitchen for about 7 hours.
I'm exhausted!!!
But we had a lovely meal and got everything cleaned up before I left.
Hope tomorrow is a relaxing day.

I've been dog sitting for a few days - so my house has stayed very organized and clean.
We also got a lot of rain a couple days ago and it was great - we have had a severe drought for over a year and so things are already greening up nicely.
Tomorrow I will need to spend most of the day prepping stuff to take to my family Thanksgiving Day Festivus.
I have my grocery list written and will head out first thing in the AM...... makes me feel organized.

Yesterday I went to my big house and got rid of empty boxes. I vacuumed the kitchen, guest room and sewing room. I worked on more organizing of my storage.

I dropped off some items I had purchased to my brother's home and checked on his house since he is gone.

Today I have to go over and get rid of more trash and take some items to charity. I will spend today at the big house and tomorrow here. All the kids will be here starting Wednesday. The big house is a huge job and will take a lot of time to get all my storage in order. I am trying to purge as I go.

My DH finished our shed so I hope my DS when he comes down will haul some of my storage to the shed. My DH is in South America and will miss Thanksgiving. We will miss him.

I want to get my nails done. They are a mess!

Travelbug it is nice to have company AND see them go! LOL

Today I have done dishes, laundry, put away clothes and purged my closet. I have also done about 1/3 of my Christmas cards. I would like to send them out the day after Thanksgiving.

I have a girl that has started to clean my bathroom since I hurt my knee. I LOVE that! It is well worth the $15 every two weeks!

I am still working on sorting my storage and purging. It is NOT an easy job!

My DH is overseas until Christmas. I'm trying to take advantage of the time.

Yesterday I spent three hours organizing our "big house". Trying to get the storage weeded out and organized. I was exhausted!

Today I'll go dispose of excess cardboard boxes and find the vacuum bags. I filled the one in the vacuum up. Need to take shelving upstairs. dh will be putting shelves in the closet for my extra dishes and serving platters. I need to have a home for the dishes in the meantime where they won't be broken.

I need to find Christmas cards I think I bought last year. I have my Christmas stamps.

Today i cleaned blueberry stuff off the counter and wall in my kitchen. i was using my min-blender and iput it in my (generic) blender bottle. it wasnt mixed up enough so i poured it back in. i forgot about the little plastic ball and it went i also. when i hit blend it sounded funny. i said something to my DH and CRASH. the plastic container broke and i had blueberry stuff on the counter the back wall and under the counter. of course know my hubby know what to get me for christmas. but that was a 10 minute mess to clean up.

We moved to our new house in Sep. When we were preparing for our open house to sell our house, we moved a bunch of our clutter into a storage pod so that the house would look better. Well, the pod was delivered yesterday and we have no where to put the stuff. Right now we have boxes EVERYWHERE!! We look like we could be on one of those tv shows where they show you people with hoarding problems!! On top of that, we are having our kitchen redone after Thanksgiving. I guess first things first -- we need to get the basement floor in place so we can set-up the furniture and shelves so we can find a home for the stuff we will keep and then donate the rest. Deep breath....one step at a time.

Today was cleaning at grandma's. it was dusty and some cobwebs. washed walls and dusted knick knacks. i got a reminder in the importance of telling people to not buy my knick knacks. my grandmas has shelves and cabinets full of breakables. it was layers of stuff. my sister texted her husband and asked him to not buy her any knick knacks- EVER!

I'm still unpacking from our move to the new house. I have plenty of boxes to unpack this month. We also have to get the contractor in here to do the work on the first floor so that we can really settle in to our home.
