I've been maintaining, not really getting anything new done. :( It's a crazy month with school ending, soccer season finishing up, play dates, church camp, vbs...the list goes on! I'm looking forward to making more progress in July. Time to get a to-do list started.

Last day of the month - how did you do with your organizing/cleaning/purging?

I did ok with maintaining - but had planned to make more progress with the big big big things.

Hi all, It is getting very hot here again (San Diego) and I'm planning trips to the library to sit in their AC.
Cameo - you can hear your grass - I hope to hear my new grass soon. I think I finally figured out the sprinkler settings, but I'm watering very late and very early - to hide from the drought police . I'm staying way under the allotment, but I'm sure someone will still complain. (I'm only doing a total of 12 minutes per day if I add all the time together.)
I think I should get credit for turning my sprinkler system off for almost a year !!!!

It is almost the end of June and in looking back - I think I have created some new- good habits and really make progress in purging stuff out of my house.

So far the dishwasher has been ran, the grocery shopping is done, gas is in the van, and the floors in the main living areas have been vacuumed and mopped. I still need to finish up laundry, cut up all the fruit I bought at the store, and work on my desk.

Started the day off right. Changed bed linens, a load of washing is running, kitchen counters are wiped off.
Next task is to sort through the bags of donated yarn (from a local yarn shop) and take it to my knitting group at the library.) They will snatch it right up- and the good thing is it will be out of my house.
Much cooler today - but we still have a HUGE wildfire burning in our east county - a rural area. It has been out of control for several days now. Hope it get controlled soon.

Reporting back on my successes !!
I took 2 large (leaf & lawn size) plastic bags of yarn to my knitting group at the library. They were thrilled - but I was even more thrilled to get the stuff out of my house.
Also dropped off about 50 baby caps to a woman's charity drop-off

laundry is done and all put away....
Wahoo!!!!

A bit cooler today and the forecasters are predicting even cooler by the weekend. I hope so, because my landscape guy is planning to be working all day long in my yard on Saturday.
So I hope it is not too hot.
Some how my house is a mess again. I have 3 large bags of donated yarn in the middle of my living room that I need to take to my knitting group and just general stuff has ended up all over.

Today I also had to get the ladder out to change burned out light-bulbs in the ceiling in 3 rooms !!! Seems they all go at once and never last the 2 years that is printed on the package. I'm lucky if I get 6 months to a year !!!

I can't imagine how they are working in the heat. We are taking a road trip to AZ and NM tomorrow. Will take lots of water.

Today I did dishes, finished a quilt and repaired a sheet.

Tomorrow I sign up for SS and go to Amarillo to start my trip.

Bed is made
trash has been taken out
dishwasher emptied and all stuff put away

Still need to do 1 load of laundry.

We hare having a big heatwave here in Southern CA and I plan to spend the afternoon in the AC at the local library - they label it a "Cool Zone" during heatwaves.

Travelbug that is big! I have to make myself stop and clean up my sewing every once in a while. I need to be more organized!

Today it is about Father's Day. Made DH gravy, his favorite breakfast and later Steak and Lobster. He is a wonderful Dad and Grandfather.

I will manage to clean house.

Travelbug are you a messy quilter? I am for sure. It looks like my fabric exploded everywhere when I'm done with a project! I'm trying to work on that!

Today I'm going to sew some squares together. I'm close to being finished with my project.

I will go to town with dh to take his timesheets to FedEx We don't have a drop off here in our little town. I didn't get a chance to pick up fabric I needed so I will probably pick some up in town. Then pick up cooking supplies for Father's Day.

I sewed all day long. I made pillowcases. I have a good friend who will have her six grandkids for a visit and will be getting a pillow for each one. She wanted pillowcases....so I made pillowcases all day. I have 5 done and need just one more. I was able to use my stash for cute kid prints and bright colors.
Of course now my fabric bins are all over the living room - but I'll take care of that tomorrow.
Time for bed.
Goodnight all....

Travelbug I could hide a lion in my yard. When it rains here the grass takes off and you have to let it dry out. I had to leave overnight for an airport run so it is awful. Guess what we are doing tomorrow!

I organized my underwear drawer and am startled every time I open it!

I've been sewing like a madman on a UFO quilt. Close to 2/3 done. I cleaned house, vaccumed and had a housekeeper in to do my bathroom. I decided some chores are worth paying for!

I'm maintaining organization pretty well, relying on when the gardener and tree trimmer show up to really get going on the major yard renewal (It looks awful right now)
I also crossed two very stressful items off my to-do list.
Had major 90K service done on my car yesterday and also finally resolved a missing credit for an item I returned to Target.
Today I will pay bills online and toss out more papers gathering around the house.
BUT
I'm having lunch with a group of longtime friends and then will go to my free yoga class at the library.
Today is the 1/2 way point of moving thru the month of June
Hope you are all making progress on organization.

June 2016 Goals (continuing with unpacking and organizing new house):

1. Move everything extraneous out of kitchen.

2. Find homes for everything I move out, i.e. new location, trash, donate, etc.

I think it will take every bit of what is left in June to do these 2 things.

Travelbug my goal for the year is to finish old quilting projects I've put aside after a class and never finished or bought fabric for and then went on to other quilts. So far this year I have finished 5 quilts! I was working on a very old project I started as a new quilter and made some squares to continue to add to it. Well. obviously my skills have improved. Nothing matched! The quilt was a pain which is probably why I put it down. So, I decided to cut my losses. I made what I had into a table runner and am putting the lovely fabric away for a quilt I will enjoy more.

Now I'm working on a UFO that is called Winners Circle. Not a problem getting back to that one. It is a lovely peach color with small roses.

Yesterday I took items to storage and deadheaded roses. I also took a bag of Goodwill to the car to take when I pass it next time. Got a Pike Pass in the mail I will put on the car windshield today.

Today I will continue to work on the quilt.

Seawave how exciting to reorganize your home to fit you and DH.

Annmargar congrats on getting that declutter bug! It does make you realize once you start how we hold on to things we really don't need. Keep only what is useful or what you love they say!

Jygetsfit that is a lot of curtains. Great job! You must feel wonderful getting all that done! You are on a roll

i have been doing alot, can't remember what all. I know I went through my clothes and selected some for donation. I have washed several loads of laundry including home bedding and camper bedding. I sewed 14 panels of curtains for the 7 windows in the camper. I swept and mopped a few times. I still need to vacuum. As you all know doing dishes is usually a daily chore. I had to let go my cleaning lady so I have been trying to keep up with everything and I think I am doing a pretty good job. :) I also recently weeded ALL of my flowerbeds in preparation for mulching on Wednesday phew. I planted wild strawberries along with some other native plants like Joe Pye Weed in my garden. I also planted a raspberry bush that I got at a plant swap. I organized my garden shed. Oh and I got a new house plant. One of those cacti that looks like a flower. Yay. Best wishes to all of you cleaning and organizing every day.

@TravelBug12 - thanks for the recommendations on what to do with the magazines. I did bag up two grocery bags full of magazines (barley making a dent in my collecction) and it feels so good to have those two piles out of the house. It goes to show you that it WILL feel good to clean that clutter that has been sitting there for years.

Yesterday morning I cleaned a few windows in the house - the ones that have really been bugging me, but that I have not cleaned in at least two year. Wow oh wow! The sun is not even up yet, but I can still see how much cleaner the windows are this morning - they look great - which makes me feel great!

There really is something to this non-clutter/clean trend!! Have a great day everyone! Tackling of of those nagging tasks today!!

Anne - I just looked online (a google search) and it looks like Cooking Light has many of their magazines online - and some links just to the recipes.
So - give your self permission to get rid of them. Maybe you could donate them to a library, cooking studio(where folks go to prepare meals) or a school?
I subscribe to 2 magazines and I give them both to my Sister-in-law and then she gives them to friends at work.
If there is something I just have to keep - I scan it onto my computer.
Best of luck with the prep for the move.

Seeking Advice - We are planning to move soon which as given me great energy to start going through my piles of papers, etc. The issue is OLD EDITIONS OF MAGAZINES. I have quite a magazine habit and I have several - okay a few piles - of magazines that I have not read yet. On the one hand - if I have not read them in the past three years, what makes me think I will read them this year. On the other hand, Cooking Light does not really go out of date - I mean a recipe is a recipe.

So - do I get rid of the magazines OR give myself a hard deadline of reading X number of magazines each week? Thoughts?

Side note - I IDID recycle the magazines that I have been carrying with me since 2004 :)

Today the fence company came and put the small mesh on my back fence and gate to keep the critters out (they say it will also deter snakes !!)
So now I need to get the gardener back to seed the front and back lawns - they are pretty small - hope the grass is successful.
It feels really good have that task done and the fencers did a really nice tidy job.

While they were here, I managed to complete 4 place-mats for Meals On Wheels and will turn them into my Quilt Guild.

Our son moved out recently, and DH and I are totally reorganizing our space. That means that first, everything that is similar will go together for sorting, then we're moving furniture and making an art studio out of our master bedroom, and a music room out of our dining room. Which, of course, means moving other things.

So excited!

I feel like I did really well in May and got some major purging and donations completed.
I hope to keep the momentum up in June.
Do you have any specific plans?
