Went through all the Christmas boxes in the crawl space. In January, when packing up, I will have three piles. Keep, Daughter, Goodwill.

Since I can't maneuver the crawl space, nothing goes back in there.

Today I had to do an unexpected purge in my pantry - I pulled out a package of pasta and there were little bugs in it! I had purchased several packages on sale a few weeks ago but I didn't think to check the dates (I didn't even know dry pasta *had* an expiry date)
They were all dated between Oct and Dec 2014 - after looking through 3 packages and finding little weevils and some kind of grub thing I just threw all 8 packages out - so much for a sale! Hope they didn't have time to migrate into something else in the cupboard - checked the stuff that was on the same shelf but I will do a more thorough look in a day or two - that was enough for one morning

I keep my holiday tree up until Dec. 6th, so am just enjoying what I did earlier in that department. Am unpacking from our trip, cleaning out fridge and planning menus for next few days before heading to grocery store.

Since I didn't do much deco for the holidays.... I don't have much to put away.
Laundry is all done and put away, dishwasher is finished and I let the stuff air dry.
All the beds are made. Trash is all collected and out in the bins at the curb for pick-up tomorrow AM.
I feel like I made some progress......even went out and bought some new hiking/walking shoes. I need to walk around the house in them to make my final decision - if they are going to work for me.

I cleaned up the floor of the finished part of my basement. It's remarkable how much better it looks now! So many items that I was able to put away and now they're not piled everywhere.
Also decided to store a chair that I love, yet never really use, and it was taking up a ton of walking area. So happy not to have it in the basement anymore, but knowing that I didn't get rid of it. Once my daughter and her husband find a new apartment and her old bedroom doesn't look like a storage locker, lol, that chair will have lots of space, and I will use it.

we had those plastic pipes in the first house we bought. was a nightmare when selling it. Copper here, but this is second time we have had pinhole size burst. I'm totally dreading having to have bedroom/bathroom floor replaced after the mess we had with the living/dining room. but thank GOD it is my bathroom, not the one for my disabled son.

So today my chore is to start going through stuff to donate and to get pictures back up on walls in the living/dining room, so I will be able to move stuff easier when they start working on my floors.

OH NO Knuckles - that is terrible. Do you have copper pipes or the plastic ones they put in houses built in the 1980s? I have plastic and I'm really scared that I'll get a leak too.
So far - the house is 30 years old and no leaks.
I would love to get copper piping, so that I could get my master bath re-model - but it is really pricey.
I'm sending lots of good thoughts to you with the terrible leak situation. OMG

the madness continues. have major work being done right now. pipe in wall burst (pinhole) we discovered it when water started seeping out of bathroom floor last night. effects master closet, master bathroom and kitchen. will probably have to redo floor too.

then get to start fighting the insurance company

Out with the Old.. and in with the New..

The old are the excess in my life.. I've spent the last day giving things to charity packed up 4 large boxes full and still going. It really takes some effort to let go but once I do I feel lighter. I recently moved (within the past year from living in my own small home for the past 18 years) to living in just one room in my elderly parents home *to help out. It has been quite a compromise but a lesson in learning how to let go and to become more organized as one has to limit what they can have. I had a big sale last summer and sold most of what I owned (I did NOT get a storage unit). I am down to only a few precious pieces of antique furniture passed down to me. The next step in my life is to go back to graduate school and I can't do this without organizing more so that's why I'm here.

Happy Holidays to you and your families .. I appreciate this team very much... it has great advice and resources.

I'm keeping up with the laundry, kitchen and bathrooms - but still no shopping done, no decorations up, no cards sent. I'm fighting a HUGE financial scam I was caught in trying to book an apt in Paris for vacation. (it was a total scam - did not even exist) I would not recommend VRBO/Homeaway.
It is taking every bit of my energy and time to dig thru this and try to get my $$$ back.
12/23 - happy to report that I got my money back (before it was released to the scammer)
Now I need to get ready for Christmas LOL

Tis the season to clutter and unclutter, that's for sure. I have this one counter today, full of wrap. I used to set up a basement wrap station, which was a great idea, except that I was in the basement (no natural light) for a long stretch. So this time, the kitchen. Wild, but I guess a day of a workshop style kitchen isnt' the worst thing. Hope to wrap up today, hee hee!

That's a good idea TORTISE110. I just might get a start on my wrapping today too. I have a stack of gifts filling up a corner in my room. Luckily the kids just think it's clutter. Hmm, is that a good thing or a bad thing?!?

Tuesday - I'm baking some holiday cookies (I need to make about 3 or 4 different kinds), so I started.
It is really raining here today - we need the rain because of our severe drought.
The problem is that no one knows how to drive in the rain and there are over 200 accidents each day when it rains.
---------------
Tonight I need to do laundry and make more cookies.
NOTE: DO NOT put candy corn in cookies - they melt all over the cookie sheet and make a real mess!!!

I have the concrete leveling company coming today (hopefully they show up this time!) to fix our front steps that are sinking. So today I'll be puttering around the house, straightening up around the Christmas tree, laundry, stripping beds and remaking them. So far, one load of laundry done and trash is out.

Good morning. Loved reading your post Fififizzle, and visited your page. It was terrific to visit another season from Virginia in the US where it is winter! I hope your wildflowers are a...wild success! emoticon

Spent the day getting about half of our holiday cards written and ready to post. DH helped, which was great.

More of same today. Am almost done with holiday gift buying and settling in to enjoy a little decorating.

I did get the Dreaded Cupboard in my dining room sorted out , at last.
We moved our office which had been in the living room into the spare bedroom. This means there is a huge pile of junk in the spare bedroom, and it is hard to get to anything. However our living room looks far more spacious and is pleasant to be in. I have been keeping it tidied up.

We are traveling for our summer holiday and taking stuff to our holiday home. So I cleared out the linen press today. Time to take some of our extra sheets and pillows to the bach, and a lot of towels etc that we don't really need here. It feels great to have these two cupboards cleared out.

Last month our dear cat Edith died and we have passed on all our cat accoutrements. We have a lot more room now, and although we do sadly miss her company, we don't miss the mess from the litter box. I notice the bed is cleaner now Edith isn't sleeping on it, and the sofas are as clean as when I washed them two weeks ago.

We have made a new flat area on our bottom terrace which DH & I are going to plant in wildflowers before we go on holiday. Hopefully when we come back there will be a lot of new growth to greet us.
Phew, looking back I can see why I have felt so tired in the last few weeks, it has been all go!

Thanks for the information and article reference, TIMEHASCOME56. I think when we are in the midst of decluttering we sometimes feel apart, even if we are not really falling apart. I find thinking about that is helpful.

Checking my closets for old or extra coats to pass on. tis the season to make contributions like that, I think.

I wanted to share this article: Why Clearing Household Clutter Is A Chance For Emotional Growth, By Dana Claudat.

Whenever I encounter a home or a whole life that is entrenched in clutter, I feel very excited.

Why get so psyched over a huge mess?

That clutter is like a road-map. It's a huge opportunity to grow and change, whether your clutter is piled up, stuffed in drawers, splayed all over desktops and digitally dispersed.

Clutter doesn't just happen. Clutter builds for many reasons.

A few big emotional reasons clutter can build into a mountain:

Low self esteem and self-destructive behavior
Exhaustion
Lack of structure
Shock or grief that's never been handled
Fear of failure or success
Lack of focus
Draining relationships
Overwhelm
Workaholism

And the list goes on.

Do you know what's hiding beneath your clutter?

The wild thing about clearing clutter is that in the excavation of the mountain of mess, the emotional patterns tend to unwind as the piles shrink and clear space is created. Even if you don't know when or how it began, as you clean up your space you're likely to find many other things shift around you in your life.

A woman messaged me recently in the middle of her own clutter clearing. She was suddenly hit with a wave of panic as she de-cluttered her home in the midst of a huge life transition. She told me that she felt she had to stop the clutter clearing because it seemed like her life was spinning out of control.

When she pushed forward, despite the wave of anxiety, she finally found a calm she's never experienced before.

Another professional organizer sent me a note to say that it felt like her life was blowing up (things broken, weird drama) as she cleared clutter in her own home. When she was able to get to the other side of the mess, everything around her settled into peace

I've realized the same for myself.

The emotions stuffed away in those drawers, woven into those bad habits, piled up in closets they don't always elegantly unfold and get sorted into bins and baskets. Sometimes they blow up in chaos and catch you unaware and tempt you to abandon your clutter-clearing mission.

Ironically, when all sorts of seemingly unrelated chaos and heavy emotions pop up while creating order, this is how I know that the clutter clearing is really working!

If you've ever done a juice cleanse or switched your diet for health reasons you're probably aware of the detox phenomenon where things get seemingly worse before they get better. No one expects to get a cold when they switch to a healthier way of eating but it sometimes happens as part of the process.

The same goes for you and your clutter. The clearing of stagnant stuff you don't need is a detox for your home, so don't get scared by the temporary chaos that might pop up.

Yes: a little turbulence is a sign that you are making some big headway in truly de-cluttering your home and your life.

Keep going!

The opportunities that come from getting to the other side of your mess are huge.

I've seen people make tons of money after de-cluttering their finances or their office, relationships bloom once the weight of the past was dealt with both physically and mentally in the process of clearing clutter and have even had clients report huge weight loss following a big closet clearing. I've seen allergies improve, energy levels soar, confidence and radiance go through the roof.

So what opportunity can your clutter bring you?

Dare to get to the other side, and you might be astonished.

Taking stock of my holiday list of projects today. My DH and I eliminated some things we usually do because we will be traveling. Always good to step back and reconsider what we really want to be about over the holiday.

And today doing something lovely: lunch and some more holiday browsing with a friend!

Happy Friday, team mates.

Today, it was an accomplishment just emptying the dishwasher and putting out the garbage.

It really helped to make a list yesterday. I knocked off my first holiday decoration project which was to get a wreath and hang it. I am feeling a little rushed toward Christmas with the late date of Thanksgiving so my goal today is to be methodical. And yesterday I cleaned out my potholder drawer! It's the little things.

Today I'm going to work on cleaning up the house since the kids were home for 4 days over Thanksgiving and we put the Christmas tree up. Just some straightening and vacuuming. I did get my online shopping done this morning.

Today I am going to focus on cleaning up one small area of clutter. I am babysitting so I'll be limited time wise and will have to forego my "to do" list until tomorrow.

Today I'm working on some homework for a class I'm taking, getting clear on my holiday list and working on a few small decluttering projects.

Oh My - December already.
I don't know about you, but I have so many tasks on my calendar for December PLUS
the Holidays.
But, I'm determined to keep to a schedule and keep on top of stuff
( The holidays would really make me crazy if I didn't have at least 1 list of To-Do)
Fortunately - I don't have very many gifts to buy or make.......but a lot of baking.

How did you do in November and what are your plans for December???
