Shampooed the carpet today - I am so exhausted from all the furniture rearranging! Tomorrow will be recuperation day with just a little tidying to keep up the habit I'm trying to build.

I organized my back patio. I covered the grill and put unused garden supplies in a big plastic bin.Oh, and pulled up some weeds around the steps. emoticon

WOW - here we are at the end of another month - August really flew by and it was not the best month for me.
I did get lots of amazing organizing and De-cluttering done and I'm feeling good about all of that, but it just lets me see how much I still need to do.

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend.
I'll start our September thread this evening.

Thanks for the September list. I am going to try to go for the whole thing, although the remodel may make it extra difficult. For sure, there will be no lack of things to clean!

So, today, I have to finish the closet and get the laundry room empty. I have been working today on both while breakfast was cooking!

And, I have a very bad habit of packing things and not labeling. Going to Staples and get some easy peel off labels for the tubs.

my pantry. it was horrible. I had moths, now its clean and organized and I don't have those nasty little flying things bothering me anymore.

Fear holds us and binds us and keep us from growing. It kills a small piece of us each day. It holds us to what we know and keeps us from what's possible, and it is our worst enemy. Fear doesn't announce itself; it's disguised, and it's subtle. It's choosing the safe course; most of us feel we have 'rational' reasons to avoid taking risks. The brave man is not the one without fear but the one who does what he must despite being afraid. To succeed, you must be willing to risk total failure; you

Worked for several hours on sorting thru old photos. The last batch is at the scanning shop, and I have about 50 or 60 that I will need to scan.
I addressed several envelopes and put old photos in, to mail to friends who may want them.
Feels good to finally be wrapping this HUGE task up.
I had a replacement lamp installed yesterday over my dining room table - the new one looks great.
I have also made at least 3 or 4 trips to the good will drop off this past week.

Yesterday I helped my daughter clean her room - so many odds and ends and pieces of paper. She's only 8 but boy does she save everything! We got her toys corralled and books put on the bookself. Now to clean off her dresser...

Today I had movers to bring down stairs the chest I will use as a vanity in my master bath. Project starts Tuesday, so I will be cleaning and organizing from now until laundry is empty, master closet is empty, master bath is empty and I am moved into the guest bedroom upstairs. I'm taking Friday off, so I have 4 days to get all this done.

Have done a major clean out of the garage and several more trips to the Goodwill drop center.
It looks like I still have more to do - but I feel like I'm making progress..
It is almost the end of August - hoping that the weather cools off soon and we could sure use some rain here in Southern CA.

Finally got the 400 old photos to the scanning shop and it will be 10 weeks before I get the DVD. But that is OK - I need a break from those photos.
Lots of things breaking or broken around the house - a total run of bad luck.
My computer and sewing machine are in the shops for repairs, had to have the cable company come and replace a TV modem.
Dining room light is falling out of the ceiling - I bought a new one and will have it installed next week.
So, I'm at the library using the free computers.
Sheesh!!!

I hate holding them too. I absolutely refuse to waste my time that way anymore. That's why I put my stuff out for free at other people's garage sales. Put 5 cents on an item and people will act as if you are asking a fortune for it, but put it out for free, and they are suddenly so excited to get the item.
I also donate to the local women's shelter and offer items on Freecycle, rather than just throwing out items that are still usable but that I just no longer want/need, but free boxes are a great way of finding homes for lots of those little items that are hard to donate.

My neighbor is having a garage sale this weekend, so I'm trying to fill as many "Free" boxes as I can to put out at her sale. Already have 2 ready and would like to get at least one more. Gets the items out of my house, the people stopping at the garage sale love to get some things for free, and it helps the garage sale too as people taking free items usually do try to find something they can buy too. Everyone wins!

wow you did great!! must feel really good

I did a few small projects yesterday. including replacing a 25 year old valance that was very dirty and dusty (yes I did clean them but they get so dirty so fast) with a solid drape. we never open the blinds in that room and my son's hospital bed is in there, so having darker window covers is a big plus.

I also cleared off the "dog's bed" .....at least thats what Bella thinks it is. love seat in my bedroom that had gotten covered with extra bedding, pillows etc.

this afternoon, I need to tackle my son's medical supplies. been about 6 months since I did a major sort out of them and they are need it big time. (to give you an idea of what I'm talking about, we get about 4 or 5 big boxes a month of supplies. most end up being used up in a month, but there are always the odds and ends that we had extra of for some reason, or they sent us the wrong things, or......)

Saturday - I didn't do much of anything for organizing or cleaning.
I did spend a lot of time searching for a pr. of new "dressy" sandals to wear to a luncheon this next week. I found something and didn't have to spend a fortune...... so I guess that is one item off my plate.
I went on a great 4+ mile walk this evening....it is still very very hot and humid here.

We are just back from 6 hours working on the Sunday School room...We had to tear down sound barrier that they had glued to the windows...no small feat as the windows are 6' square and hauled sheetrock and debris down to the dumpster...that is 3 full flights of stairs...I was up and down them so much.... I don't want to count them.

We vacuumed, swept & mopped the floor, layed carpet, and made the circle of folding chairs today.

Now we need to paint at least two walls...they painted the ceiling a maroon, 2 walls dark dark green and 2 dark brown...it will take at least a gallon of klitz primer and one gallon of paint to cover each wall....if we are lucky.

There is an old saying...what doesn't kill you will cure you..
We are looking at covering the green walls...windows on one side with radiators and the opposite one...these green will now be ivory to lighten the room and we hope to get gold drapes by winter...I am thinking I can just get sheers in a gold color for now.

So ivory walls freshly painted and the dark brown walls opposite.
The carpet is a light tan and does deaden the sound in the room as well as pick up the tan in the sofa. For now...that maroon is gonna stay there. ...that ceiling is too darn high!

I have to see if I can take the seat cushion covers off the sofa so I can wash them...I hope I hope as that sofa is grungy... if they don't come off then I shall have to bring my shampooer in and use the furniture attachment to clean it...soon enough for it to dry before Rally Sunday.

There is a bulletin board that needs repair of one of its legs too.
That's it for now we are exhausted- bye

I worked on the photos a little bit and took 3 large boxes of stuff from the garage and house to the goodwill drop-off. (like pants that I will never fit into again and if I do, they will be years out of style/date.)
I feel like I'm making progress.

Thanks Fifi - great ideas. I'm going to try to photograph a few of the pix and see how it turns out. I must admit that I am a terrible photographer - but worth a try....

Travel bug, that is a big job. Might you use your digital camera to photograph some of these pictures? Then they are already in a digital file, they won't take up so much room, and you can be more selective about what you choose to have properly scanned. If you make a card with identifying information about each group, you can photograph that too and use it to make some sense of what the photos are about, or at least some order.
Just a thought...

I am still working at pulling all the old photos together for scanning.
I've been at it all day long and this is at least day 3.
4 generations of photos.....and I'm going to have to go thru them and be more
"ruthless"
I have a coupon to scan 350 and I know I have more than that now.....but
I will pack them in a box and shop for another scanning coupon.
Sheesh - this is a ton of work.
I did find that I could set my scanner to create jpeg files - and was able to scan those
that are really really old and printed on this cardboard stuff.
Tonight I'm going to yoga class and my back is definitely going to need the stretching.

It is stormy and wet at the moment but spring is on the way. I am spring cleaning the kitchen. So far I have cleaned the bench, the ovens (I never use commercial cleaners but this time I weakened and its amazing how well oven cleaner works), the microwave, the fridge (but not the freezer), the cupboards above the fridge, the top part of the pantry, the ceiling. To go: the bottom part of the pantry, the counter and cupboards above and below, and under the sink. Then behind the stove and fridge, the dishwasher, and on to the dining room.
Meanwhile I am washing my pillows (we have feather pillows) and drying them in the tumble drier, they come up so fluffy & fresh, I love it, and getting to work on my sheets & pillow cases. We have cotton sheets and I have been using eco powder on them. Eco powder has no brighteners & over time the linens have become a little dingy. I want to brighten them. I know not to use a chlorine bleach; I have just bought an oxy bleach, we'll see how that goes.
So far, so OK, have ironed and put away the first lot of sheets & pillowcases.
Maybe I'll finish the kitchen tomorrow if it keeps raining!

I"m still working on the sorting of the photos......feels like it is going to take forever.
I mowed the grass in front yard (or what's left of it) mostly brown from the drought.
Then after it was dark, I watered it with the hose (don't know if the drought regs allow
that- but I had to water.)
Now I'm ready for bed.
I feel exhausted tonight and hope I can go to sleep - I usually have a very difficult time going to sleep.
Hope everyone is having a good week and getting a lot of organizing done.

I'm doing mountains of laundry consisting of sheets and towel since the kids and grands left. I folded two loads of towels tonight and have to feed the dryer again before I go to sleep. I also programmed my phone to hear a train go by when an email posts. I love trains and that old lonesome whistle is a happy sound for me!

Alll day yesterday and again today.... I'm going thru boxes and albums of old family photos to have them scanned. It sure takes a long time and I'm getting rid of many of the duplicates.
My mother had at least 25 or 30 frames of photos all over her house and they have been stuffed in a box for over 20 years.
I really want to get this stuff done and it will feel good get it "off my shoulders. emoticon

Several years ago I typed out all our family favorite recipes and put them in a binder and also on a computer disc. I then made all 4 of my children a book , so we now have our own Family Cookbook. It was a lot of work, but so worth it when my kids tell me how they use it all the time and best of all, it is organized. Now we just add recipes to it as we go along. Also to keep recipes neat and clean I typed 2-3 recipes on a page and when I printed them out, I put them in sheet protectors, so we can just wipe them off if we spatter on them.

Organized recipes into binders. Used my scrapbooking materials. All those printer pages and cut out of magazine recipes are now neat and organized.
One binder for soups, salads, vegetables, meats and main dishes. Another one for sweets and holiday foods. Another one for breakfast and breads. Still trying to figure out what to do with menus and informational type of things.

Went to farmer's market and grocery store, came home zested and juiced 12 lemons and froze the juice into 2 Tbsp portions in a silicone mini ice tray, and froze zest in a ziplock bag, washed grapes and pulled of stems so they are ready to eat, washed and bagged lettuce, diced onions for a bowl to keep in fridge for the week. Some time prepping today saves time later.

I had the kids help me completely clean out the van today. It still had the folding chairs and things from the July 4th activities. We got EVERYTHING out and took it to the car wash for the super vacuum. I take it in to the dealer next Tues for a recall and they said they needed it cleaned out so that's what we did. emoticon

I was thinking that, really due to changes in styles, that I might just donate the suits to an organization that helps unemployed women get into the workforce and go out a buy a few nice, new suits that fit me well. It sounds like that may be the way to go. Thanks!

Personally, I bought new items to go with the jackets, or re-purposed the jackets to go with jeans and slacks, when I was working. I can tailor clothing and I do sew, but it isn't worth my time now, nor was it then (I was a professional that had to wear dress wear daily so I had 10-12 suits with sweaters and shirts). When I retired I just gave away a lot of my dress clothes and bought the casual things I needed as I needed them. Now I'll just buy one semi-dressy outfit per year (multi-season, usually) to freshen up things for church, etc. I do take in shorts and slacks, if it is simple to do, generally at the waist. But I don't pay for or do tailoring, I don't think it pays.

Anne, would you wear the altered slacks? When I retired I donated all my work clothes and only kept the very basics 2 pr dark slacks, one blazer and about 5 dress shirts.
I don't know for a true fact - but I have heard that having clothes tailored is pretty pricey.
You would have to decide home much use you would get out of them and how much you are willing to pay. (do you sew?)

I am ready to go through my closet and get rid of the clothes that I don't wear. Question for the team - for the business suits that are too big (pants, not jacket) - is it worth taking them to the cleaners to have them altered? Does anyone have experience with this?

Our neighborhood is having two big events in August - a book sale and a huge "yard' sale. We are all taking our things to the local park, setting up tables, and selling our wares. My daughter and I are very excited to gather our books and things around the house we no longer need to sell them at the big event :)
