Knuckles I really like your suggestion of putting all the kitchen "junk" in a box and purging at the end of a month or 2. I know I have containers, bowls, pots, pans that I have not used in over 10 - 15 years. (Like a spring pan to bake a cheese cake - I baked it in 2003.....LOL)

I've been picking up "corning ware" glass/ceramic bowls and lids at garage sales. I'm really trying to get away from zapping plastic. I actually have some extra lids that I use to put on top of a paper or ceramic plate.

A trick I heard about doing the kitchen and it worked well for me. Dump all your extra kitchen utensils and dishes etc, into a big box. As you use them, then they get put up in the drawers/cabinets after washing of course lol. At the end of a month or two, go through the big box and get rid of the stuff you didn't use. (exception for things used once of twice a year for special occasions such as roasting pans and turkey basters)

I really need to get back into a daily routine of picking up. I have really let it slide lately

Hey Fifi - I learned a new word from you Perspex.
I had to look it up......here we refer to it as Lucite - the stuff that airplane windows are made of.
I have seen some kitchen containers made of it and I'm sure it is better than using plastic.
I put the food item in a glass container for the microwave and of course that is another dish to wash.....LOL
Thanks for teaching me a new word.

I tidied the house a little when I got home from work, but I think i have done enough for this month. But for August... I think I am going to focus on my kitchen, reorganizing it and throwing away plastic containers I don't use. I need a few things, a Perspex dish for microwaving, I am a great fan of a quick zap in the microwave. And more lidded containers for fridge to work to microwave to eat out of.
Any suggestions?

It is the end of July already - do you have some special task, or cleaning, or organizing
planned for the last day of the month?

My knitting group is having a pot luck.....but that gives me plenty of time to
clean up the mess in my sewing room AGAIN!!!

Just finished a dog sitting job for about 5 days and it feels good to be home.
I'm running a load of laundry and will enjoy a shower (in my own shower)......
Not much to pick up around the house - but do need to take a bunch of stuff out of the car.

I'm limited right now, due to a broken ankle, so I've been trying to get through all the stacks of paper and clean out the file folders until I am able to get to the things that I am physically unable to get at for the moment.

I just got back from taking some books down to the book fair. What joy, I cleared three bookshelves. Still more shelves cluttered, but if I just pick away at it, it will get done.

We cleaned out our garage yesterday, it took up most of the day. So glad to have it cleaned up and there's so much more room now! It makes it so much easier to park our vehicles in there too. As long as if we can try to keep the dogs out of it so there isn't black fur all over the floor again, we'll be fine.

Our lives can change with every breath we take.

I agree it is so easy to clean the shower while in the shower. I use a squeegee to sluice away the water on the surfaces, and I have a shower cleaning mitt so I rarely need to use products. I dry the fittings, walls & door with microfiber cloths and there you have it, a gleaming shower, and a clean Fifi!
I shower in the main bath once a week and do the same thing there. DH uses that shower, but I don't think he will ever clean it...
I do the same with the loo, too, clean it in the morning after I use it. A little scrub, swish, a swipe, it is done & ready for visitors.

I'm dog sitting my brother's dogs this weekend - at their house.
So, my house stays pretty clear.
I do come home to shower and get clean clothes, bring in newspaper and mail.

I'm getting good exercise this weekend. The dogs are young and both need long walks.
I can't handle them both - so I take them separately - that is 2 nice long walks for me
Wahoo!!

Kia ora, e hoa. I did some tidying at work. I am winding up a project and looking at my old files. Decided to consolidate them & as I do, do some prep for future activities. We have Maori Language Week in July in New Zealand, and Maori Language Day in September. So if I review and tidy between now and Maori language day, I will be able to do a little something to mark Maori language day, and maybe timetable some time to make a plan for the week in 2015.

Have started with my budget for the year. I used to do this religiously but lately not, and guess what? We are wasting money. I love using excel to make a budget, it is great fun!

After my massage this AM - I"m feeling great......except for the construction noise still going on next door.
But I am making organizing progress. Called auto ins. and had rate reduced as a Sr. with lower annual mileage and paid my 6 month bill.
If I take a defensive driving class (free from AARP) my rate will go down even lower.

my goal today is to wash the dog and mop and clean the front porch - which means moving a lot of stuff as it is also my only storage space. It will be a good chance to go through belongings out there, tidy up, freshen up, and throw out some things - will let you know how it goes!

Looking forward to tomorrow and being able to vacuum and dust my house. I'm dog-sitting a very very old frail - very long haired sheltie and since I don't own any pets .... this is a big change for me.

About all I did today was make my bed and will hold off on the other stuff until tomorrow......

So far today: 3 loads of laundry, bathroom cleaned, living areas vacuumed and dusted, kitchen floor mopped, Hubby's nightstand cleaned, picked up van from body shop, and Bible study time. Left to do: finish up laundry, make casserole for dinner, relax! (the kids are at Nana's for the day!)

Keeping the bathrooms sparkly this month.
It's winter here, I did a whole day of laundry including putting all the pillows in the drier for a good fluffing up.
Am systematically soaking my cotton sheets trying to brighten them. I use an Eco powder and those whites are looking a bit dingy. Any suggestions?

Managed to clear the upstairs hall of boxes that we have been walking around for a month. Some were consolidated, and some were genuinely emptied with the contents put where it belongs. A couple of them though were just relocated so they will need to be dealt with at a later date. I need to put books away, but I may have to create space on the bookshelves before I can put anything else there. That takes more time than I have today. So I will wait...

Just finished with a yard sale. Got rid of some stuff, but still a lot left to get to Goodwill this week. At least we got rid of some large kids equipment (bike trailer, 2 power wheels) so we don't have to lug that.

Worked out in the garage for about half an hour. I brought in a bunch of neon lights. I don't know if they are new or used... I hope they work! Otherwise I'll be busy hauling them out again. emoticon

Because it's summer I noticed I am "streamlining" my cooking. I'm learning to steam and stir fry using a wok and steamer. I've cooked for a long time and often steam veggies, but this is a whole new level for me and I'm enjoying learning something new.

Easter Seals is in our neighborhood next week for a pick up, so busy going through closets and dresser. Always a good feeling not only when we can get rid of things, but maybe those items will help someone else out.

Impressed by your budgeting, BOOKLOVINGGIRL. Good for you.

My husband and I are doing some estate planning work today.

And while it's not "organizing," enjoying the excitement of a new grandson, born last night!

Three important convesations coming up today. Not the usual kind of "organization" we talk about, but the kind I also need! Hope everyone has a day that brings satisfaction.

Going to clean at least one of two huge boxes in the garage. I have many, but they are huge and probably filled with junk that will be easy to toss. They have been there for 13 years! No kidding! I am giving myself one hour for each box. What is not gone through is going in the trash. I will check back when done! emoticon

Good morniong. I hope your garage sale goes well LITTLEGUYSMOM1. I know they are a lot of work and can be fun too.

I'm just picking up clutter today after returning from being away. My husband calls it "nesting."

Also scheduling in some quiet time.

I finally shredded all the papaers in the bin labeled "papers to shred 5/11/13"!! I had put all those papers in a bin in to storage when my father and brother were coming out and I needed to "clean " quickly. I also got rid of a lot of other papers and finally gave a good dusting to my bedroom table while on the phone with my cousin (yeah, multitasking!!)

Success, so true that we cycle through cleaning and organzing again and again in life. Sometimes I actually like that we keep doing routine things. It feels like life renewing itself again and again. As much as I like the satisfaction of feeling accomplished I like the idea of things to do to engage again.

Cleaned up after party yesterday and with my husband's help we are done with most of the clean up. As is my bent these days in the process of party planning realized I have somethings I won't use again and will pass them along somewhere.

Laundry done for the week, yay!

After church today, we are going to work on getting some things out of the garage for a yard sale next weekend at my MIL's house. We have some large things like a bike trailer and seat from when the kids were smaller. It'll be nice to clear it out.

Still hot here today - but I did go on a walk in our city park this evening and it was a bit cooler - nearer the ocean.
I did some general pick up of stuff today and continue to wipe down all the kitchen and bathroom counters - have to do it everyday.......but that forces me to not allow stuff to stack up on all the horizontal surfaces...... LOL

No AC sounds terrible, Travel! And fires make it tougher, I'm sure. I hope you get relief soon.

We are entertaining tonight, but just for dinner. Making things ahead of time so I can enjoy the time.

We a re having a heatwave down here..... it is 84 inside my house and I don't have AC.
In our drought - of course we also have a few fires burning here in the county.
Not near me fortunately.....but I sure feel sorry for those firefighters.

I did make my bed this AM and I cleaned off the bathroom vanity - put stuff away and wiped all the grime off. It is amazing how much dust collects. But - it is done.
Hope everyone has a good 4th and stays cool.

So, one of the reasons I need to be organized is because my parents are SO disorganized. Another reason is because I have a huge sense of adventure (I lived all over the united states from Hawaii, Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Indiana and Colorado) I just love to be new places and experience the diverse culture within our own amazing country. So my personality is chaotic in a wonderful way!

My parents decided 3 months ago to move to Louisiana (where the rest of our family is). Three months.... isn't that enough time to pack and clean EVERYTHING?! and in an organized fashion might I add? But no, that didn't happen.

So the weekend before they were leaving (They were leaving on a Thursday), my mom FINALLY had her yard sale. Nothing was out that was supposed to be, when stuff finally did get out it was chaotic (I ended up putting christmas stuff all together, clothes, etc.) I helped her with that Friday through Monday. Then Tuesday-Saturday I tried to help with packing.... during that time I acquired a ton of new things. -_- ugh. However, because they were moving across the country and only had 2 days left I just decided to help them, I ended up with a living room FULL of boxes, it looked like I was just moving in! (and to top it off, they didn't even clean!).

So, Tuesday I cleaned, emptied a few boxes and reorganized my bedroom so I could fit the other boxes into my closet. So, now my living room looks nice and I love my bedroom after reorganizing the furniture. I've committed to cleaning out at least one box per day. I spend about an hour a day organizing one box, seriously, my family had no organization skills. I've been focusing on that.

My dressers are also disorganized, my fiance tried to help me with Laundry, and I love him for it! However, it's disorganized. I definitely feel much better with no clutter in the living room. Anyone else just feel relief when there's no clutter?

Make Life Sparkle.

I AM committed to myself.

I have been spending 15-20 minutes at a time getting my yard and patio in order. The weeds are gone. Everything is swept up. The winter trash is picked up. Everything is hosed down and fresh looking for me to enjoy the summer and fall outside.

I have got rid of the 'to clean' pile. Wool jumpers, cardigans, polo necks, and blankets that I can wash, have been washed, dried (flat over a couple of days), and put away. The doonas and blankets that were too big for me to wash have been drycleaned or laundered by the local laundry.

I was able to cross a couple things off my list today.
I had a free "deluxe" car wash - so now my car is clean inside and out...
Went to Wal-Mart and got new throw rugs for the kitchen (by the sink) and one of the bathrooms.
Then
I finally went and had my eyeglasses adjusted and it sure makes a difference.....
I CAN SEE !!!!

Today after work I cleaned up the corner of our bedroom where the crib is now set up. Just hoping that the crib doesn't become a catch-all until the baby arrives.

Cleaned and organized the whole house! Moving to the other end of France and having to live at first in a room at school so getting rid of any excess furniture, clothe, book, etc. Renting out my house with the furnitures included to ease the move.

I realize I really did not need so much, even with everything I gave away I still have a lot

Here we are with a new month - a fresh start and determination to get our lives
organized..... and cleaned.
I always feel motivated and focused at the beginning of each month.
I think I did really well in June and I hope to carry that progress forward into July.

Do any of you have plans for special projects?
