I took a giant size bag of plastic and styrofoam to recycling today, along with pop cans, and papers.

I have the handyman coming tomorrow to fix a broken patio light, re-caulk around the tub, and re-hang a fallen rack in the garage. These are things that have been needing work for months and I finally pinned down the handyman and he will be here tomorrow AM - thank goodness.

In honor of the last day of March I'm taking those bags I've been letting collect in the garage to the donation center today. Bye bye!

10 more boxes down from the attic and stacked in the front hall awaiting the movers. Brought down six items and put outside for trash pickup.

It is almost the end of March and it looks like so many of you have made some major progress in organizing/decluttering/cleaning........Br
avo!!!
---------------
I hope to do a few more things today and tomorrow to make this an even more successful month.
--------------------
I'm back to report that I did about 2 1/2 hours of yard-work in the back yard. Trimming, clipping, throwing out stuff in several large pots that was dead or almost dead.
Next I need to dig the root balls out of 2 really large 3' pots - the plants have been infested with spider mites for a long time and I have spent a fortune trying to get rid of them.....
so out they go.....................wahoo !!!

Good luck on that garage, Toni!

Yesterday, I had a *very* productive rainy day. I washed the towels and bathroom rugs; cleaned the bathroom floor; took old electronics and old window blinds from the basement and a ratty, heavy, old utility table from the garage to the landfill; decluttered a terrible problem area next to breakfast table (amazing how much of that stuff went into the shred bin or recycle bin); did grocery shopping; did all the shredding; and mailed back an old EZPass, since we now have the Flex transponder for the new HOT lanes.

Our neighborhood clean up day is a few weeks away so I am ready to attack our garage in next week with my husband (mostly his space). Can't wait.

Went up in the attic and got a few things down, some to throw away, one to put by the curb in hopes someone will pick it up, otherwise trash will pick it up (it's broken but could be fixed), others are on my porch to be packed by the movers.
DH will have to do most of the attic since he's the one who put most of the stuff up there and I can't lift heavy things! And there's a lot of stuff up there! At least we need to get down the things that we want moved with us and the rest can come down later at his leisure.

My fridge is almost cleaned out, in anticipation of the upcoming move. I changed addresses today on some things, did the change of address for the post office. Got down the cat carriers and washed them off so they'll be ready when I start transporting the menagerie.

Cleared out the fridge and there is very little left in there. I kind of like the look of that - LOL
But, I'll need to buy some food.

Now I'm doing laundry and while the cycle is running - I'm going to sit down and enjoy the newspaper..
It is a beautiful sunny day here in Southern CA. I went downtown this AM to a travel convention and it was fun to dream about going on all those trips. I thought I had been lots

Still feeling somewhat beleaguered by the building crew, cleaned my fridge inside and out and reorganized the shelves. Decluttered some of my plastic containers. Cleaned the microwave inside and out, outside of the stove, have to gather my fortitude to clean the inside. Outside of other kitchen cupboards...
Threw out some non stick baking pans that have lost their non stickness, will replace with silicone pans.
Cleaned the entranceway to the porch.
At least I can say I got something done in March.

I so love this thread for energy and motivation. I realize I have been MIA a lot lately, but time spent away from the computer has really upped my productivity, especially on my work projects. Slowly getting caught up. This rainy Saturday, I have a long to-do list, so I'd better get cracking.

Good morning, Gadget. Best to you cleaning out your freezer. Years ago Cosby Show...the mother took everything out of the freezer once a year and had a weekend family feed. The Huxtable character loved it (he loved to eat). It was funny all the weird combo's defrosting forced them to come up with.

I'm going to do some photo scanning today. Tedious, but interesting too. A walk down memory lane.

Hi Travelbug12!!! Nice day today, but I am staying out of the yard until I get over this poison ivy! Be careful out there! I'm still scratching. Tomorrow, we are supposed to have thunderstorms so no going out for me anyways.

Today I was able to clean my freezer! I can now open the door. I decided that I am not going to buy any frozen food until the fridge is completely cleared out!

Have a great weekend!

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

I had lots of plans to do some "purging" and cleaning today and it is almost noon already.
All I've done is make my bed, and copied 3 books from CD (library) to my computer to load onto thumb drives to play in my car.
I need to get a move on!!!!

It is a beautiful sunny day here and I do plan to work in the yards - always lots to be done there.

I did laundry yesterday and soaked stuffed animals with Totally Toddler, an enzyme product, to prepare them for washing. The kitchen is always an ongoing project. I am dangerous when there is a horizontal surface in sight. Clutter be gone and stay gone!

Morning! We've been talking kitchens and one thing I do think I've learned is to get rid of extra stuff there. It helps keep the clutter down some. I have some serving pieces I never use that are occupying too much space. I'm going to pass them on.

I managed to get the laundry done inbetween visiting with a friend from out of town yesterday. Mulling over my next project...

Have a great day everyone. Spring is coming, isn't it? emoticon

Yea! I actually got the kitchen done with the exception of one counter. My house is starting to look so much better! My kitchen is almost done, which is sad because it took me three days and it is such a small kitchen. I have everything off every counter but one.

My bathroom got a good scrubbing yesterday, my hubby got my computer info transferred to my laptop (broken hard drive on my computer) which means that I can actually start paying bills and stuff!

Yesterday, I also completed my written schedule. I came to realize that I really have no time in the world. Maybe it is time to grow an extra pair of arms!

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

I started the day out changing bed linens, filling the laundry basket to do laundry later.
organized the bathroom counters (again)
I now need to go out into my yard and dispose of the dead bird that flew into my glass door this AM. He probably saw the reflection and thought it was open space.
Poor little guy - I'm not sure what to do with it - fortunately it is a small bird.

I'm off to read the paper, take shower and go to lunch with friends.
I have a massage scheduled this afternoon for my shoulders and back. Wahoo!!!

BTW I have a grease container on my stovetop that I save grease in to reuse or recycle. You could use an empty metal can to pour that grease into until morning instead of going out in the dark night to empty it across the yard.

My daughter or her husband clean up right after supper. She cooks and he cleans up or vice versa. They both work and have three busy kids. Piano lessons, swim team, rock climbing, a preschooler who likes ballet and loves Zachary keep them busy before and after school. This works for them. The kids go to bed early and then they spend time with each other while the dishwasher runs in the kitchen and they discuss the day or catch up on their favorite TV programs or watch something on Netflix. It works for them...

I like your style Marcia! I used to clear the clutter for company when I was overwhelmed with our five kids and all their many activities. Life was so busy. I don't have them to use for an excuse anymore, but I still have the clutter. I want to learn how to stay ahead of it and not just shuffle it from place to place... I have been a piler instead of a filer for too long and need to catch up with the filing that needs to be done!

A place for everything and everything in its place is a lofty goal. I would be happy with three clear table tops and a clean kitchen counter. I can hide my clutter upstairs out of sight from casual visitors until I get around to the debris depots that I have up there! I need to spring into action and get something, anything, decluttered so I can really enjoy spring outside, if it ever shows up here in NW Ohio.

I so agree about kitchen counters. I used to get annoyed with FlyLady's talk about (and I may not get this completely right) leaving the kitchen sink empty at night and everything being clean. Well, I'm an early to bed person and DH and my two kids (when they lived at home) were not so there was no way for the kitchen sink to be left nice and clean. And Flylady would say to put the dirty dished in a container under the sink, out of sight....not in the deep South, no way. There would be all kinds of critters crawling down there. Better in the sink, soaking in water! BTW, I always turned the dishwasher on when I went to bed so that option was out.

Life happens and a spotless, pristine house is impossible! I'd rather enjoy living and keeping my house in a manageable state! Clutter on the counter tops that can be cleaned away when company comes without taking hours of time (same for the sink) is okay.

I used to stress about those things, which led me to nag at my family, but then no one is happy!! It's not worth it. Do what you can, and move on.

Keeping kitchen counters clean is a task that just keeps coming! Yo. I prefer to live with these people I love (and must remind myself that when my work seems 'undone'), but something attracts them to a clean work space like nothing else does. I guess they like a decluttered surface as much as I do. I "nudge" them from time to time to clean up after themselves... My husband always looks so grieved when I do that because he does the dishes after dinner and has decided that's his bit. (He doesn't put things away...) I'm just ranting a bit here to GADGET's note. Truth is if a counter is always clean, I bet the individual lives alone!!

Meanwhile I have a guest coming to spend night and when I say the word GUEST, incoming, my family does know to keep things uncluttered. They live in fear.... LOL emoticon

How do you keep counters clean!? I had such a good day yesterday; I put dinner in the crock-pot, cleaned everything from the microwave to the oven, bought groceries, got my daughter's school work caught up, load of laundry. I didn't even tough my computer. I felt like superwoman for a day, and yet, when my hubby got home, there were dirty dishes on the counter and his lunch bag with dirty Tupperware. I packed his lunch, put the dirty Tupperware into the sink, left the dirty crock-pot sitting since I didn't feel like walking to the other side of the yard to dump the grease at 11 pm.

I'm back to the dirty kitchen today, but at least this time it won't be as bad to clean up as it was before. I just don't know how to stay on top of it all! How do you do it?

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

I went to the dentist for a checkup. My last visit with this dentist, who I've seen for 25 years! I did some cleaning in one bathroom and some vacuuming but not a lot. DH should be contacting the movers to schedule our moves so I'm kind of in a holding pattern right now. We had to wait to be sure that the house closing (on the one we are moving into) was going to take place Friday, and it is official now.

emoticon work GADGETCC!!! I used to do the dishes and clean up my table top at 11PM before going to bed. I could listen to the late news and be in bed by 11:30. I'm struggling with counter top clutter now too. I think I need to set my old plan back in motion. I can make cleaning up the counter and the table the last thing I do before I go to bed. Then they will be clear every morning to start a new day. Thanks for giving me a new goal to work on. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I spent a whole day in the kitchen and it is getting there.

I had an ant problem, but they weren't going after any food and they ignored the baits. I found out that they were living in my orchids that were in my windowsill. I am looking for a permanent home for my plants, but they are over my fireplace for now. My kitchen is better and the bugs are gone. No hubby at home today, just the child so I think this will help. I just have to figure out how to keep the counters from becoming a dumping ground again. I have dinner in the crock pot and I am ready!

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

Great news the key are found !!!!! I had my friend look in the back seat of her car - I was
with her Saturday to go to the swap meet....... Wahoo!!!!!!!!
Can't tell you the relief that I feel - because a replacement would be very very expensive.

Plus - I guess I'm not so senile LOL

But, still motivated to work more on clearing out the garage - hope to be able to
do a bit more today and need to go to the Goodwill drop-off.

Good morning.

Travel, those keys will show up. You know they are in the house... My guess is when you least expect it. Don't lose hope! And don't forget kids lose things all the time it's not just us who "lose our minds." Good luck, Miss Peach. It's hard to track down a smell sometimes. And glad the recipe looked good, Celia--good going on being supercharged again.

Up early in the dark this morning ready to do Monday. I was on track yesterday and got to my routine reading and writing done (goals for me) as well as laundry. I'm not doing the 40 days exactly, but I'm trying to peel stuff off this season too.

Saturday afternoon, when I went in to my bathroom, it smelled sour. So I took things out and put them into the hallway. I cleaned everything I could and mopped. Took me well in to the night to clean everything.

Again Sunday afternoon, my bathroom is smelling sour. So I thought about what did I not clean. The bath rugs stored on a shelf above the doorway and a cover for the tank top on the back of the toilet.

I threw away the tank top cover. It was old. Also, took all of the clean rugs off the shelf. I threw away the old ones I don't use any more. I will wash the 2 remaining rugs. (and one is on the clean floor.)

None of those things I threw out smelled sour, so I don't know. I will check Monday afternoon to see if the smell is still there. I only seem to smell it in the afternoon.

At least I purged some and cleaned a lot. emoticon

This AM I realized I have lost my car keys, alarm beeper, house key...... I search everywhere at can't find them,..... Fortunately I have spares of everything.............but darn-it that makes me so mad. I used them Friday night - drove home and came into the house.
I feel like I'm losing my mind and it was upsetting. I was feeling so stressed that I was feeling kind of sick to my stomach..........now that is stress !!!
This afternoon I started cleaning the garage - it has needed it for years. I made major headway and have 3 large bags and several pieces of new baseboard wood (don't know if Goodwill will take the wood)............................
but it is all in my car. I went to the drop off, but they had already closed. So, I all ready for tomorrow.
The cleaning of the garage did make me feel better - but I'm still thinking about those darned keys. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's good you got those batteries out of the drawer. I saw something on TV this week about batteries starting a fire when they were touching one another in a drawer! I've been storing mine loose in the drawer, but now I know that I need to keep them in their packages so the contacts don't touch one another. Live and learn! emoticon

Checked out the recipe, Toni. Sounds yummy!

Finally got some motivation. Laundry is done, and I'm trying to get back on track with my 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge, since I lost steam last weekend when we were away. Today I cleaned out the battery drawer and found way too many batteries out of date and/or corroded. Like others in the challenge, I count cleaning out a drawer as a bag, because it is time consuming and results in order. I also need to bust chops getting the volksmarch box ready for our seasonal walk at Prince William Forest Park in Virginia. The volksmarch runs April 1 - September 30, so I need to organize the new file box I bought to replace the ancient, cracked one, and I need to ensure the directions and map reflect new trails.

LITTLEGUYSMOM1, isn't it cool how when the kitchen is cleaned up we do things like make cookies or a meal?!! Somehow it makes it more fun.

I transferred all my passwords into a little black book. I've been meaning to do that for a long time--they were on notebook paper--and it feels great to have this boring task DONE. I also realized I'm using the same password too much so will be doing some change ups.

Was organized for a great meal last night. It's a Martha Steward light recipe. It was yum. http://www.ivillage.com/individual-pinto-a

I had a note from the accountant saying he needed a few more pieces of paper to complete the taxes. So from Wednesday to this morning I made phone calls, and had faxes sent and picked up stuff from the bank and got it all delivered to him this afternoon. Whew! I hope that takes care of it for the year 2013.

So far, I've gotten a large load of 3 bags for Goodwill ready to go tomorrow, the boys' room picked up of toys and shoes, and the kitchen counter cleaned off. Now I'm baking oatmeal cookies for the kids. :)

Just general straightening up and putting stuff away.
Bed is made and dishwasher is all filled and ready to go.
Feels like a relaxing day - because I am staying home, no appointments, classes, shopping, banking......just staying home.
---------------
It is such a pretty day here - I mowed the grass front and back yards, edged, watered and moved all the potted stuff around to get different sun for a while.
Still feeling good about staying home today.
Guess I should do this more often. LOL

Packed up heaviest sweaters, woolie scarves and mufflers and gloves and got them ready for storage. (So done with winter...) Cleaned my desk (whew) and dug deeper in my office to do every more organization. Grocery shopped and menu planned for the weekend.

I was out of town for one night and came home to find a mess around the cat box so cleaned it up and washed the mat under it along with one of the cat beds I had been wanting to wash but kept forgetting about! Then last night a cat threw up on my bed so after cleaning it up as best I could and going back to sleep I got to add washing sheets to the list of things to do today! Also took my car to the car wash to clean off all the mess from traveling (lots of bugs were flying on my trip!!), picked up my dog from the vet, washed clothes, and rested as I'm still tired from the quick trip.

I went to a party last night and was gifted with the leftover sheet cake. While it did taste good last night I decided I didn't need any more of it. No one at home really needed any more sweets either. Out it went. I am happy I got rid of the temptation.

Hi Fififrizzle!

I feel your pain. We are now in the fourth house that we are doing work in. Last house, I had to carefully walk a thin board in order to get into my house. The house before that, the fridge was in the garage in front of the house, and we did all of our cooking on the barbecue or microwave in the back of the house, and we washed dishes in the tub for over a month. The house I currently live in, we gutted the downstairs, then had a well go dry and the man who owned the property put the backyard up for sale (loan with no house requires us to pay 40% down to purchase property). Now, we cannot afford to finish the downstairs so we are stuck with a work zone for a while.

Don't fight it. Try to find a small section of your house and make it a peaceful place for you and your family... a sanctuary. Box up everything that you can and store it, leaving just the essentials. Lastly, keep a picture of what it will be like in the end - even if it is just a mental picture.

emoticon Just hang in there, it will be worth it in the end!

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.

TMCK, skiing is so much fun. It startled me though as I am definitely in spring mode, even though the weather isn't cooperating! I hope you have a blast.

I am looking forward to a day to organize. Off to the gym first, however. A good thing!

Travelbug - I like your doctor's style! I wish mine would suggest a weekly massage and I wish my insurance would pay for it! I don't think that will happen for me... emoticon

FiFifrizzle - Our bedroom took forever to finish when we started our remodeling job. There were only two men working and it was slow going. Does your builder have a schedule that he will stick with until it's done? I always think things are easier to tolerate when there is an end in sight or somewhere in the near future instead of somewhere over the emoticon . Even though things get worse before they get better, think about how nice it will be when ALL is said and done! Hang in there! When it is done it will be emoticon !!!

Fififrizzle, it always gets worse before it gets a lot better when we tackle a project. Hang in!

I got my grocery shopping for the week done yesterday. Proud of being organized. Sometimes I don't plan ahead enough when I shop and then have to go back for odds and ends. Did laundry and will get things put away today. Am only half unpacked from trip, but I'm on it today.

The best thing I did was workout even though all my organizational tasks weren't done!

We are discombobulated becasue we are having our ensuite renovated. So the bedroom is in use by the builder, and we have moved into the office and the office has moved into the living room and the foyer and the leftover bedroom stuff is in the dining room. emoticon
It won't be forever though at the moment it feels that way. And I would like to say I have decluttered, but it sure doesn't look like it.

Did laundry, watched a very busy 4 year old GD all day, and took care of my ailing husband. Brought clothing downstairs for the Good Will box.

Sorted and pitched paper files and other items. Put storage boxes on shelves with the plastic storage bags waiting to be filled with my winter clothes. Can see the bottom of my floor. Will sweep and mop it when I get off work tonight.

Lots of planning goes into making a move. I would have to make lots of lists to keep me organized and on target. I've only moved twice in my life and both moves were over 43 years ago. I was moving in a small car too, a Corvair. A moving van moved the furniture. Luckily that move was only about 10 miles so I made lots of trips with two babies and baby stuff, clothes and boxes of dishes, boxes of all kinds of stuff, and one St. Bernard!

It sounds to me like you have thought of everything! emoticon

DH cleaned out some junk while home this weekend. Moving date, while not set yet, is getting closer with potential closing on new house being the 28th if all goes well. I got things put back in the kitchen after the floors were finished on Friday.

This week I'll do some house cleaning and sorting through things. I also need to start a list of items I need to pack to have with me or send ahead of time to DH's apartment prior to the move so we can find them easily. Things like pet food, files, cleaning supplies. We both have small cars so some of this needs to be thought out ahead of time as we will be transporting our "zoo" during the move, too.

Hey Moonglowsnana

I will have to remember to try cross county skiing. In Fort Lauderdale, all I had access to is water skiing, so I wouldn't even know where to do cross country skiing, but I think it is something that I would like. My husband is part Native American and the rest is I-don't-know! He was a wild-land firefighter so he was used to camping and hiking, but is also into skiing, rappelling, mountain biking, diving and just being outside. Wild-land firefighting pays horribly, so now he just uses his vacation time to fight forest fires and his weekends for structure firefighting. Unfortunately, he is a horrible teacher. I think to help me learn to ski, he would just put me on the top of a big mountain and give me a push and I would land up in a ravine or something.

BTW, in response to Travelbug, although we got married on Grand Cayman Island, we traveled to California just before we got married. You are right, California is pretty. I didn't like LA, but San Francisco and San Diego were both beautiful. My hubby lived in Point Reyes, which was also incredible.

I'm sorry to hear about your back. I hope that it gets better so that you can do everything you want to do without fear!

BTW, what I cleaned today... I got rid of 1400 pounds of yard waste yesterday and cleared a fence line! yippee! And more snow in the forecast! I am looking forward to that!

My husband is Filipino and he likes the four seasons too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I actually like snow. emoticon I've lived in Ohio all my life and so it is a part of my psyche. Snow is beautiful, and I used to do cross country skiing. emoticon It was the only sport that kept me warm while I was doing it! Good exercise. After I had back surgery though the fear of falling and messing up my back kept me from doing it again. I found our skis upstairs in the cedar closet and will give them to one of our kids or grands next year. They already do downhill, emoticon but where we live it is too flat for downhill and cross-country is better. This year would have been great with all the snow we've had! emoticon Cross country is also called skinny skiing. Maybe you should keep that in mind for a goal for next year!!! "Track!" That's what you say when you want to pass another skinny skier, and unless you're racing you would be able to pass! It's fun!

Travelbug - One of our kids went to school in Valencia, although she was living in LA at the time. California is a pretty state. Another one of our kids got married at the Sea Ranch so we've been to your pretty state a couple of times. I got to watch the grapefruit and oranges emoticon ripen while I was there, and we got to taste the "fruit" of the Napa Valley after the wedding! emoticon Cheers!

Scary. I am originally from Florida, but I married a Virginian who missed the seasons so we moved to Richmond. It has been a cold winter, but I wouldn't mind a final snow... as long as it doesn't have ice. All the snow that we have gotten this year hasn't stayed on the ground very long. I am starting to think that I am the only one who wouldn't mind!

Next winter, I would love to learn how to ski. Maybe I should write that down somewhere so that I actually do it this time.

Please be patient, God is not finished with me yet.
