I cleared off one of my counter tops to move my microwave. I'm using the old space for my microwave to start my vegetables for this summer. I already have mini bell peppers and broccoli that have sprouted already. There is nothing better than fresh vegetables that you start from scratch.

Did you make someone smile today?

It is almost 2014 -
I went to another Dr. this AM about my sore shoulders and got a cortisone shot, this time in my right shoulder. Still sore, but hoping that I'll see improvements in a couple of days.
I got back for another appt. in 3 weeks and he said he may give me another shot.
In 2014 - I'm looking for better health and more focus on getting my life/house/health organized.
Happy New Year to all.

I'll wait until after mid-night to make a new thread LOL

I started cleaning out my bedroom closet yesterday on impulse and ended up organizing two decades worth of photos. Yikes! Word to the wise...label your photos with the date as soon as you take them. I still have piles of photos with no dates and am trying to look at kids' teeth, glasses, hair length, etc., to figure out dates. My goal is to finish the closet today. Happy New Year, team!

Yesterday, I helped my mom take down the house Christmas decorations that go to the attic, and we carried those two boxes up. We also culled several things to donate to Goodwill. And I finished getting caught up on my laundry, including washing my Christmas bedspread to put away.

I did start on cleaning out and organizing the Christmas decorations. Then Mom had chest pains and emergency surgery...so I didn't get far.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Cecila, I agree with the clean up as you go process, and keep telling my 14 year old GD that, but sometimes it does Not do any Good!!

TRAVELBUG12 I am the same way with my purse, keep trying to keep it cleaned out to make it lighter and sometimes keep stuffing things back in it. emoticon I need to clean it out again.

LOL on the purse mess Knuckles. I have been trying to make my purse lighter
to protect my sore shoulders.......no use................I just keep stuffing things in there
and then I have to up-end the thing on the floor and go thru it all.

I got up early and went to Physical Therapy for my shoulders this AM. Always feels better after I finish a session.

My bed is made and the kitchen is all cleaned, counters wiped off and all food put away or tossed.

I hung my tops on plastic hangers and placed them on the rod IN the closet.
I hung my dresses on plastic hangers and placed them on over the door hanger.
I had a peppermint three wick candle burning, while I was doing this, this was new for me to do.
I brought some filled totes out of a basket, to organize and went through one.
I swept entryway, living room, bedroom, and kitchen.
I finished the last of the coffee, and decided I am giving it up completely, as it is not good for me, (Blood Type "O") I gave it up a long time ago, but it gradually came back in this year. No more.

TA-DAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Finally my office is clean and organized. It has certainly been a long term effort but now it functions well as an office/sewing/hobby room. There was plenty of space all along it just took perseverance, planning, and determination. I walk in there smiling now instead of dreading the chaos.

Out-of-control oil and vinegar...Toni, I so understand. Ever since an Under the Olive Tree opened in our area, we have wanted to try it all, resulting in a multitude of bottles that basically all look alike, so we have to pick each one up to read the little label. Good luck with the son's room. I wasted not time reclaiming space once DH's daughter moved several states away.

We did get the kitchen pretty much back in shape, but stepdaughter's boyfriend used my good cooling rack to "roast" the bacon in the oven, and after hours of soaking and scrubbing, I'm still picking or scraping bits off the grid. Never again. He's no beginner at cooking, being in his mid-30s, but he is a poster child for requiring boys to take a semester of home ec in school. I still remember my 7th grade home ec teacher who taught me to clean as I go. To this day, before I sit down for dinner, I want as many of the prep dishes as possible washed, dried, and put away. Sure makes for more pleasant clean-up after dinner.

Good morning!

I did find the nutmeg, Celia. Web site still not ready for public consumption but I will keep you posted. I did make great progress this past weekend. Meanwhile I hope your kitchen is back to normal! LOL Takes those new cooks awhile to get the hang of a plan and the clean while you prep deal. Hope that guy gets better at that!

My challenge with my son's room is getting him to be around enough for us to go through things together. Since he's about to graduate and probably move out of state I will need to figure that out. Then again, I'm not prepared to make HIS room into a guest room... Now THAT is empty nest...

For now, seriously attending to my shelf for oil and vinegar. Seems to have gotten unruly and I can't find what I need. Happy Monday everyone. Hope we all get a short work week and a sweet holiday to bring in the new year!

Toni, did you find the nutmeg yet? And will we get to see your website?

Well, stepdaughter and her boyfriend are well on their way back to Ohio. Note to self: Don't turn boyfriend loose in the kitchen again unsupervised. He offered to make breakfast, and despite making the best bacon I have ever had, the mess he left behind looked like something out of a sitcom in which the kids prepare breakfast for Mother's Day. Grease and greasy dishes everywhere. The whole house smells of burnt grease, and it's too cold to air it out. As a result, our clothes, our hair, the furniture, even the cat reeks of it. So besides laundry, cleaning up from breakfast has been my and MIL's accomplishment today. I guess he warned us when he said, "I cook like I have a dishwasher." We have one that has never been used, since we do dishes the old fashioned way. Even so, there's no dishwasher on this planet that could have coped with all the grease. We would have had to wash the dishes before they went in the dishwasher anyway.

I'm still working my son's room. Did two loads of dishes yesterday and am washing the last of his blankets right now, then I'm going to put the last of the dishes (soaking right now) in the dishwasher before I got out for a long walk. I'm also planning to do make ahead meals and dust, vacuum, sweep and mop. Busy day ahead!

Toni - I'm going to have to look for that January list you mentioned! Is it in a thread? - Found it!I love that it's a task a day!

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed today at everything that I want to clean and organize before I head back to work on the 6th. I'm trying to just take one thing at a time and realize that it doesn't ALL have to get done TODAY! The first step is to get the Christmas decorations down and put away. I am also struggling with my kids' rooms. My daughter is a sophomore and is just a SLOB (although I love her to death!) Her dad is a hoarder, so I worry that she has some of those same thought patterns. My son just moved to another state but left a room full of stuff here. He is back for the holidays, and I told him I would like him to pack up his things and bring them back to his new place with him. He is really stalling on it, telling me that since he is moving into a house already shared by two other guys that it would be "rude" to just show up with boxes of stuff. I'm not sure how to handle this. I really don't have the room to store all his clutter and would like to do something else with the room. Sigh....one thing at a time!
Have a great day everyone!

Maybe we can lay down the law to both our sons, TXGIRL, as your description of your son rings true for mine too. Mine is a senior and tells me he is "working on it," that being the clean room concept. I guess that is progress. Meanwhile he leaves on Wednesday and I'm lining up the trash bag to bail him out. LOL.

Finished my deadline posts for my website yesterday so will enjoy some R and R from that work today. Laundry ahead and whatever I bump into. Just read the January list of things to do on this team site. It's terrific if you haven't seen it. I think I'm going to take it on.

Have a good day, team mates!

I put away my Christmas decorations and purged a few at the same time. I had them stored mixed in with my (rather large) snowman collection, so I reorganized so all the Christmas stuff is in a single bin (not counting tree ornaments). I carried the bin straight up to the attic!

I still have to go through the snowmen, but they can stay up all winter.

My son's gone to his grandmother's in San Antonio for two weeks. Yea!!! He gave me most of the recycling and laundry out of his room before we left, and when I got home I bagged up all the garbage and took out a little more than one dishwasher's load of dishes.

I just put his sheets in the wash and after I eat I'm going to put away the clean dishes and get back to clearing the rest of the dirty dishes, tidying up and dusting and vacuuming in there! Now that he's in college, he's home way more than I am and I can't get in there and clean it on Fridays. I wish he valued a clean room and would do it himself, but oh well. One of these days I'm going to lay down the law! But for now, I'm just going to be happy to get in there and clean.

Good morning, team!

Celia I do love to entertain, but I sure like to have them gone as well. I hope you survive the weekend without too much stress. Even though Mae West said, "Too much of a good thing is wonderful," I don't agree! And sharing a desk sounds like a real pain. I think I'd feel a little like I was back in school having to share a room. I know you'll figure out a solution, but sorry it's such a drag right now.

I worked like a banshee on my website last two days. I've met the goals I set with my designer so should be seeing a good draft of the site this coming Monday. Exciting to see it come together. Have my eye on a major kitchen reorg after the holiday ends. I've been moving too fast to keep things in line. And where is that nutmeg???? LOL

Have a good weekend everyone!

Wish I were more like EllieJosie and enjoyed entertaining family. I'm just about on my last, frayed nerve.

Yesterday I got my Pick 3 done, and I'm almost ready to consolidate my stuff into the cubicle my telework partner and I have agreed to share. The problem is that he has done absolutely nothing to get ready for my stuff. All his overhead bins are still stuffed with his things, and there's very little file space for me. Also, he does not have a pencil drawer, so I will need a place to put the contents of mine so I can pull it out when it's my day in the cubbie.

Today, I'm working on some laundry and other little chores to get ready for more family to show up for the weekend. Sigh.

My laundry is done and put away. Made a list of the things I need to do before the quilting ladies arrive on Saturday AM.
Just remembered that I am ushering tomorrow and really don't have time for it..... but too late to change now.
One of my goals for the new year is to get a calendar and write all my activities and appts. down so that I can keep track and not obligate myself to so much.

Knuckles - I'm leading a hike New Years AM 9:00 from the Bernardo Winery.
We will have between 20 - 30 folks. covering 3 - 4 miles over mixed terrain.
You are welcome to come. It lasts about 2.5 hrs at the most.

OMG - I really have a lot of cleaning and organizing to do. I thought I had put things away as I was doing stuff.......but now that I have a group of gals coming on Saturday to Quilt at my house - I realize that I really need to get going.......

So much stuff to put away - I feel like every horizontal space has Holiday decorations on it.
Wish me luck. I'm going to take it one room at a time.

Merry Christmas to all a day late:) I managed to clean my Kitchen a few days before Christmas, but now I need to clean out my book case because my husband bought me a new sewing machine and I need my sewing table back. It is full of books that I need to put in my book case. How was everyone's Christmas? Ours was good. Went eat at our daughter's house, which she lives in my in laws old house and she will be moving in Feb. and this was the last holiday in the in laws home:( Well, time has to go on. I did very good on my eating this year. Very small spoonfuls and only two pcs of fudge.

We had a lot of company, some of it overnight. I've cooked 3 family meals so far, with two more big ones (24 people on Saturday night) to do this weekend. Add to that a major plumbing problem that can't be fixed until late January, so we are down to one shower for the houseful.

But today, DH will drive my brother home (he is disabled and cannot drive) and during that 3.5 hours, I will be doing all the trash removal, picking up and so forth, plus exercising, and NOT prepping or cooking. We are eating out tonight with more family members.

I love the holiday - the work and fun both - but this is my short time to reset my diet and exercise goals back to "normal", since I've just let too much of it slide the last week.

The crud is finally releasing its hold on me. Yesterday I got the recycling collected, bagged, and out in the bins so DH can't "forget" two full bags again. Also, I paid the bills, some of which were getting dangerously close to their due dates. Man, that cold just laid me low!

Good morning and thank you for your comment, Celia. David loved having his story. I like your surprise shopping trip to Manassas! I love those "tucked in" moments around the holiday that are often more fun for me than the big meal on the day, or presents, etc.

Feeling the press to let go of more stuff as the holiday ends again this year. I delighted in decorating this year because of last year's "slim down" of holiday stuff and intend to do more. Also hope to streamline my son's old stuff as I suspect he will be off, come Spring and graduation.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, team mates.

Toni, what a precious gift to give your son...HIS story!

Still kinda doing nothing. Yesterday I broke one of my oldest personal rules. I NEVER shop on Christmas Eve, but with this awful cold and the yucky weather, we just never made it out of the house, and MIL decided she wanted to go shopping. We were surprised that the places she wanted to go were not overcrowded, so we had time for lunch in Old Town Manasses just as the minor snow flurry came in to make the old buildings look even more quaint.

Whew - finished the family Xmas celebration. Went to my brother's house and we had lasagna for dinner and too many of the cookies that I baked.
We had a great time laughing about previous Xmas celebrations - especially when the kids were young ( they are all adults now.)
--------------
So tomorrow I get to relax and of course clean up the mess I made in my house with baking, wrapping, etc.
It will feel good to get my house back in order.
Merry Christmas to all......

I packed. My wardrobe looks great emptier.
I tidied the house in preparation fr the cat carers visit.
When I come home I hope it will be tidy, if a bit fluffy from cats frolicking.

Good morning! Your cookie baking sounds both delicious and organized!! I have been skipping cookie baking for a few years--buy from a great bakery--but I so love the smell of a baking day and your post made me remember the days when I'd cook for days with my family. A great time.

I have wrapped everything in the house (except family members...) but will probably see a few deliveries today on my porch. Mostly we are ready. Checking my food list just to make sure we do not have to dash to the store unnecessarily.

Have a great holiday, team mates! emoticon

Tortise - that is wonderful to write a "history/bio" for your son.
------------
After ushering at a horrible play this afternoon.............I came home and went "baking crazy"
I made 3 different kinds of cookies ( 4 dozen each) and made my gingerbread cookie dough.
I'll bake those tomorrow afternoon. The most tedious part is frosting and decorating them.
I think I'll only bake up about 1/2 of the dough and freeze the rest.

I got my kitchen all cleaned up and ran the dishwasher/ and unloaded it.
So, that part feels a little organized.

Months ago my son, 22, asked me to write down his birth story. He is my adopted son--adopted at birth. So I did (being organized!) and today is the day I'm going to give it to him so we can talk about it, he can ask any questions I have failed to address, etc. We're excited--it's a wonderful story--and it should make a great family day. We have told him the story over and over and over again since he was young, but having heard it at different times, he remembered only pieces. So this is a chance to capture all the info so he can have it for always.

Glad to report that I got my cards all addressed and even wrote a short "Holiday Newsletter"
to enclose.
Now I'm going to start baking some cookies.
I make most of them with a cake mix, so they are super simple and only 3 ingredients.
--------------
I'll also have to make gingerbread cut-outs for my niece - they are her favorite.
--------------------------
Anyway - I feel Like I made a lot of major progress today and I'm feeling more organized.

I've been offline for most of the week...travel last weekend, then dead computer, cat needing expeni$ive treatment, and me battling the worst cold I've had in years. Almost certain I have a sinus infection that I'll need to go to the doc for. As for Christmas, all set except to get some things for Christmas dinner. DH is flying today through Christmas day, so it's just MIL and me, and MIL likes to help with the dishes and such, bless her! And thank goodness for leftovers and very simple meals...she has no need for or expectation of being entertained royally. Glass of wine, some cheese and crackers, mindless TV, and she's happy as a clam. I am lucky.

I put up my Xmas tree tonight (it is artificial) and I hadn't put it up in about 3 years (just lazy),
but it is done and it looks pretty cute.
Now I need to stow all the boxes - they are in the garage now and I need to put them back on the shelves and out of the way...

About all I accomplished today was laundry.
Also made a trip to the library to return books on CD and find more - but that is more
pleasure than getting organized.
-------------
I had the check engine light come on in my car..... bummer.
Mechanic told me to keep an eye on the gas cap. I thought it was on tight - but
he put it on tighter and said if light comes on again - to just buy a new gas cap...
that is an easy fix and now I know what to do....

Trying to get someone here to look at my garage door, it is not opening up right. I have called the people that put it on last spring, and they were suppose to call this a.m. to let me know what time they would be here today. and they have not called yet, looks like I'll have to call them. I do have other things I want to get and do.

Yikes, Celia, sounds awful! I hate it when it seems like everything "frizzles." Hope you find some calm in the sea of all that's not working right now. Good to see you here, in spite of...

I've reached the holiday point where I have done what I can and it's time for DH to kick in. He will begin what I suspect will be a massive shopping effort today. I do save the "impossible to buy for's" to give him. Seems only fair... emoticon Men love a challenge?

More things off my to-do list....
1 - after 2 trips to Home Depot I was able to replace the "flapper" in my toilet tank, so it
no longer runs...... YEAH!!
2 - got a couple more timers for the holiday lights and they are all set now and working fine.
3- The basics (dishwasher is emptied and all things put away... bed is made ....more papers off the kitchen counter.
-------------
So it feels like I got some things accomplished today.

Everyone seems to be making good progress. The holiday spirit seems to take control at some point, and urges everyone on. I have lots of paperwork backlog - my area of greatest challenge - on which I am finally making some progress.

Home Office clean-up: I recently came upon a stack of hard floppy disks, which I had stored because I did not want to lose the content, and no longer have a floppy reader. I got my hands on one this week, and read through 21 disks, transferring a limited number of files to my external hard drive, and formatting them all to remove any readable data. Now to tackle the disk storage drawer that holds many more!! I am not sure what to do with the formatted floppies once I finish - does anyone want them anymore?

I am also working on organizing and filing all insurance coverage info - I tend to just pile it up. This will be done today.

One day at a time; slow and steady. I just wish I were more steady and that the weight did not come off so slowly!!

Thank you so much for the suggestion about the dishes, Rose! You were absolutely right...that was the best place to start. Once the dishes are off the counter, everything seems much more manageable. There is nothing worse than going to make dinner and there is no room on the counter! And there is something about a messy kitchen that makes the whole house feel messy. THANK YOU! As for your garage door, I wonder if it is not operating right because of the weather. I noticed you are in MI. I am in the Chicago area, and I know we have been getting below zero temps and snow. That could make your garage door not operate properly. I hope they are able to fix it for you soon!

Soft_Val67 - I know just how you feel about that adapter! I tend to do that with my cell phone and go bananas until I find it. Usually it has fallen out of my coat pocket in the car and is wedge between the seat and the emergency brake or something strange like that. Would you have brought it with you to another location if you used your laptop somewhere else? I know I have left flash drives in the computer at the library. Good luck finding it! Maybe if you start making your candy and relax, it will pop into your head where you left it.

Today my goals are to 1) put my Christmas tree up (but I am only taking one box of decorations out of the garage at a time!) and 2) to drop off extra clothes to Goodwill. I have been holding onto them for three years now so I can earn a little money with a garage sale. At this point, I am just going to get rid of them in order to reclaim some of my garage space.

Have a great day everyone!

Soft-Val, I can certainly relate to your post. I misplace things in my house or car or ????
and it drives me CRAZY looking for it.
I go into full panic mode - think I'm going crazy or getting senile.......
I usually find the missing item at some point - sometimes after I have purchased a replacement.....so I can really relate.
I hope you find your micro SD card.
Let us know and I'm sending you supporting thoughts to find the darned thing.......

Here was my OCD moment of the day.
After going to the store for a few essentials, ie. Toilet paper, detergent, lottery tickets.
I came home to start cleaning my kitchen, getting it a little less cluttered with Christmas candy making ingredients.
My overall goal was to get everything organized so I can start making my candy this week. so for some reason I start looking for my micro sd card adapter, I keep it on the end table next to the couch, as that is where I sit with my laptop most.
It wasn't there. So, I began picking up all the days newspapers and sales papers, and any other old mail to toss away. Got that taken care of, sure I had put the card in my, "junk box" I searched it, it wasn't there either.
By now I am in full fledged OCD mode, nothing would deter me from finding that card.
I cleaned off the kitchen table, searched couch cushions, and chair cushions, under the tables and chairs, I looked everywhere.
as I am sometimes prone to put it in my purse, for safe keeping, I looked there as well.
the card never turned up and I was stressed out all day over the loss.
I was unable to focus on getting my kitchen organized, I was unable to focus on anything but finding that card.
But, as of right now, the kitchen is clean, the living room is clean, well, except for all the wrapping paper and stuff from the evening of wrapping gifts, but the card remains at large!
I cannot stand to lose something, I have had a theory for some time that anything that is brought thru my front door will be lost.
the loss of that card really messed with the balance of the universe!

I was told by one of the guys that pick up Hazard waste, if I mixed the paint with kitty litter and or coffee grounds that it can go out with the weekly trash.

Yes, DISCOVERLLH, I do sometimes get/feel Overwhelmed, I am about my garage door. It isn't opening up right. I did/have called the guys that put on the new door last March, and they May have someone in my Area within the next two weeks, I sure hope so, I do need to get in and out to go to work!! emoticon

Also DISCOVERLLH I think if I were you I would start with the dishes, and get them out of the way and then start tackling the rest once those dishes are done, I know you said your dish washer was broke which means you'll have to wash them by hand, I think it will be much easier to do other things after the dishes are out of the way. You'll most likely see a big difference and it' will look much better. Hope this helps and Good Luck. emoticon

Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed? I need to get my tree out of the garage, which is a cluttered mess. My son is coming home in a week, and his room is a cluttered mess. My dishwasher is broken, so the kitchen is a cluttered mess. AAAARRRRGHH!! I don't even know where to start!

I made a dog bed yesterday. took a big piece of fabric the quilting group didn't want to use, doubled it up to give it more structure, sewed it into a rectangle shape then took all the bits and pieces of fabric batting etc that I have been collecting from the group and stuffed it. I thought it turned out halfway decent. now to see if the dogs like it or not and how well it lasts. lol

If your old paint is latex, leave the lid off to dry it (don't do this near your furnace or water heater). When it is completely dried out, it can go into the garbage safely. You should phone your garbage provider or city to double check any other regulations, but we manage commercial and rental properties and have done this legally and safely without incident. I have also done this with oil stains and oil based paints that do NOT have lead in them, but again, call your local regulators to make sure this is acceptable.

Good for you, Adrienne, reclaiming your space. I bet you'll feel terrific after you get going on those rooms. Travel - what to do with old paint! Our town collects it but only once or twice a year. We have some that need to go too.

I've got a lot of clutter going from gifts bought and not wrapped yet. Should be solved by Monday. Christmas seems to lead to clutter at our house. I am decorating more simply again this year. Less is more?

Have a great day, everyone!

Local Frazee Paint Stores are taking old paint cans (full or partially full) to use to cover graffiti
here in town.
I took all the old paint that had been sitting in my garage for many years.
Had 3 gallons that had never been opened !!!
It feels to good to have that stuff out of my garage and inspires me to do more
purging and cleaning in the garage..... WAHOO!!!

Now that my kids are on their own our 5 bedroom house is turning into a closet. I plan to attack our two worst rooms this month I'm done with work for the year after Next Friday so that's when it will happen.

sometimes I think we try to do too much when we are feeling unmotivated and/or depressed (and it sure seems to be the time to be feeling that way. all of my friends have been saying that this week)

pick one or two things tops for your list of things to do. and make they things you can do, not big lofty goals. see if that helps.

Hang in Imreite. I hope you find a couple of things you can get done and feel great about.

I've been very good about cards and moving through my gift list, but whoops, forgot to do the laundry this week! No one will go naked in my family, but still...

Friday is list day. Sort out the rest of the days 'til Christmas and make sure I do the things I want to do and love to do. Love the lights coming up in our neighborhood.

Yes, Slim..... you get lots of credit for getting the cards and pkg mailed.
I haven't done my cards yet. I keep putting it off......

I did shred and sort thru lots more paper today - but that is about it.

Does taking 100+ cards and a Christmas gift box to be mailed count? It seems all my time is going there right now...

Sorry, Elllie, no list that I don't generate on an every other day basis. I do start with a list of people I do not want to forget. I like to think that means I am setting (the most important) priorities.

Decorating our tree today, I think. It's in the house, thanks to my DH and I rushing out yesterday and picking up a fresh one. Smells great.
