Cleaned and organized the pantry in my kitchen with the help of my two daughters (pantry messer uppers). Worked with them to figure out where it made sense for their lunch items, etc. to hopefully gain committment on keeping it picked up. It looks great and I feel ready to tackle some meal planning/preparation. It was OUT OF CONTROL!

Cleaned my home office yesterday and took out tons of things. Tossed paper, magazines. Glad to see my desk this morning. Happy to have a bit of a free weekend to get organized for December: coming soon to this site! See you tomorrow, team mates.

I am nearly finished a work project and I threw out a whole lot of paper associated with it last night. What a great feeling to be stripping that file down to the bone.

there is s still more to do, but i dont have a lot of mess in the general areas. my kitchen had been clean. it is taking only a couple minutes of dillegence per day but it is getting easier and when i come home my kitchen is clean and i am more motivated to take time when i first get home to clean or put my dishes away.

We are getting our linoleum professionally stripped and waxed today, so DH and I cleaned absolutely everything off the floor, including the pantry floor and under the laundry room sink. The poor cat is locked safely away in another room with all the essentials, and he is not happy. Else, I washed some clothes for our trip and will wash some more when the floor dude is done.

I'm slowly working down my to-do list and almost ready for the holiday.
I drove past a Best Buys store at noon and there were already about 5 people camped out in front in line for midnight Thurs. night.
Sheesh - I couldn't believe it....... to me that seems like a waste of good time.
I realize that they have super sales...... but WOW, I couldn't do that.

Fififrizzle, good for you getting your cat's teeth taken care of. Tooth problems lead to heart disease, so I was happy to get my old cat's teeth cleaned and the bad ones pulled. She lasted to just short of 20 years. My current cat is getting to the point of needing dental care, so your experience is a good reminder.

Yesterday, I had my work all planned out nice and doable, but I ended up working everything but my plan, as people tossed me last-minute, hair-on-fire, gotta-do-this-before-the-holiday tasks. They all got done, but now I'm stuck with running behind on my own work.

This weekend was a great chance to do more thorough cleaning and decluttering, We don't have enough kitchen counter space and so really worked hard on minimizing what was on the counters. More workable than before.

Today I need to really focus on getting the dining room area into space. Unfortunately, we rarely eating in the diningroom so the table gets covered with papers that need organize.

My fantasy project will be to organize all the miscellaneous stuff, papers, clothes, household items is one of the storage rooms and the computer room. I need it done soon so that the room will be available as a guest bedroom at Christmas.

First big cleaning day in a while yesterday, spent seven hours cleaning, vacuuming, washing the floors, a thorough dust, bathrooms cleaned, and put away some winter clothes. Put away the bedroom heater, now it is cool and windy today, but I will persist. Organized the shoes in my closet, now to clear out the junk in the bathroom.
Also organized a dental treatment for my dear old cat, he will have some teeth removed but will feel much better for it I know. Right now he is trying t explain to me that I have forgotten to feed him and I am explaining to him about the anaesthetic coming hs way.

Thanks for the reminder to clean my purse, Knuckles!

Yesterday, in addition to my previous list, I cleaned out the shred bin, balanced the checkbooks, paid bills, prepared a sympathy card for a neighbor and a Thanksgiving card for my family, mapped out a new route for the 2014 volksmarch in historic Manassas, and translated the volksmarch map into written directions. I also found my miniature Christmas tree that has been hiding for years in the black hole we call our basement, so I brought it into the office and decorated it.

I love this thread for motivation and for suggestions. Today I am especially struck by the need to let go of years/decades of possessions and how hard it is and how long it takes. Yes, I have been an on again, off again Flybaby for a long time, but it seems like I've hardly made a dent. Right now, I am doing the Chopra 21-day meditation challenge, and a couple have resonated with me strongly. The first was asking myself, "What do I want?" I have asked before with no clear answer; this time the answer came that I want contentment with a simpler life. The other meditation had the centering thought, "Now is my time." No time like the present!

Anyway, between yesterday and today, I have done a teensy bit of basement organizing that has resulted in a large pile of cardboard broken down for recycling. Right now, the laundry is humming in the background, and I have done the cat chores (including full cleaning of the cat's water fountain and cleaning up the cat barf...yes, on the carpet). I've also filled the bird feeders and retrieved the plastic bags I put over plants last night, but which blew all over the yard with today's high winds. And I have collected and bagged recycling and done a lot of other nit-noid chores. The rest of the to-do list remains....

I am trying to put together a 2 month plan to declutter, sell or donate plan to reduce my stuff by at least 1/2 if not more. I would like to move and don't want to nor can I afford to move stuff I no longer want or need. Not sure what the plan will be yet. Could be interesting.

I have lived in the same house for over 40 years and we have so much stuff! It would take me over a year to clean it all out! I have been moving things out slowly giving the kids' furniture to the grandkids, and sending their books to them. But it is only a drop in the bucket and if I were really serious I would have to move a lot more stuff!

Even the thought of that makes me tired! I have enough to do getting ready for Christmas!

I am in the process of deciding if I want to move across the country. I need to resolve one health issue first. If I do move, I will be selling or giving away most of what I own. Total fresh start. Should be interesting. Regardless of what happens, I think I better put a plan in place so I don't get so overwhelmed

I worked thru a huge stack of papers that I was holding on to for some reason.
They have now been run thru the shredder !!!
Bills are paid, check book balanced - only thing left before the end of the year is
Property taxes and that is a biggie.

Today I am taking my car in for service and I think it will take a major part of the day.
So I'm taking some knitting and my kindle LOL

Knuckles, glad your son is mending. I didn't realize he needed the special bed.

Not much done, but I got the recycling and trash out. I'm looking around the office today for efficient ways to reduce my footprint. Only a little over four weeks until my telework partner and I have to start sharing a cubicle, and it will probably be his, since he has his set up to accommodate standing.

Decorating a holiday tree today for a holiday event right after Thanksgiving.. Feels a little like channeling Macy's, but I know I'll be glad it's ready. It won't be visible to my Thanksgiving celebrants though! (Purist that I am about one holiday at a time)

he is doing fine. he has to stay in the hospital for two weeks because he has to be on special bed that promotes healing of the pressure sore skin flap surgery. otherwise he would have been released to our care at home. He is severely physically disabled, but we are usually able to care for him at home.

Knuckles, how is your son doing? He has been in the hospital quite awhile now.

Toni and Fififrizzle, I feel the same as you that losing body clutter has made me also want to lose the weight of physical possessions. Like you, Toni, I used to buy lots of clothes, mostly from catalogs that had XL sizes in "forgiving" styles. Now I want to try on every piece, and if it doesn't fit JUST right, I don't rationalize that the gaping waistband will be okay if I don't tuck in my shirt (normal for pants that don't fit pear shapes) or that the shirt that fits and is on sale is worth the purchase even though it doesn't make me WANT it. I like having fewer clothes in my closet and space to breathe in there.

Good morning! Knuckles, what do you think of Biggest Loser? I saw it this week for the first time and was so upset how down they were on people who had only lost 2-3 lbs in a week! It is such a respectable loss. I also wondered how someone can lose 17 lbs in a week? It seemed all so "unsparklike."

FIFIFRIZZLE, I like your observation about decluttering seeming to come naturally from losing weight. I have felt that way but never really said it out loud or been so aware. Thank you. It makes sense. Maybe we come out of our "cocoons?" I find myself buying fewer clothes--believe me I have plenty. It's like I don't have to "feed" myself that way so often. Weird.

The holidays are naturally purge times for me too. As I take things out to prepare for decorating, I tend to let go things I know I don't want in my life anymore. Looking forward to that this coming week and weekend.

- picked up my photos that I had scanned and put on a disk - they look great (now need to put caption info on them.

I have found as the weight has fallen away I am wanting to declutter, it is a natural drive.
I started with my bedroom and every time I go to tidy, I start with the bedroom and keep going til I run out of steam in there and move to another room.
So far I have decluttered my bedside drawer, my chest of drawers, my closet, under the bed. Twice this month! Only the jewelry to do, and my closet to finally clear out by stripping out the unneccessary clothes and shoes and storing the keepers in my (now empty) off season clothes trunk. There is so much space on my closet shelves, it is very restful.
I can see the end is in sight as every time I tackle this room there is less to do.
Next room, my bathroom, won't take long, then the living room. And the hall linen press.
It can be done, and emoticon

Light fixtures done! Cobwebs gone! Appliances pulled out and cleaned under, behind and all sides! Stove completely scrubbed and shiny!

Today, vent hood- yuck! Bathroom exhaust vents, windows (didn't get them done yesterday), behind washing machine, pile wood under shed before rain/snow starts! Roll up hoses and get hubby to turn off outdoor faucet for the winter!

Knuckles, it sounds like you've had some other stuff going on. We only got started because last year we ended up travelling for Thanksgiving and Christmas and ended up not putting ANY Christmas decorations out.

Good job focusing on what you can where you can. :)

I am afraid of our attic!

Cleaned out the oil and vinegar shelf near my range. Always gets to be a total mess and needed to be managed!

Also my purse, which I need to do every couple of weeks. Why do I keep all those little bits of paper?!! Yikes.

Have a great day, team mates!

Continued prayers for your son, Knuckles.

DisneyDamsel1, congrats on your progress!

Other than a whole lot of laundry yesterday and collecting recycling, I did not get a lot accomplished this weekend. Today I am taking care of nit-noids that have a way of making the to-do list look impossibly long.

so they may be more "creative" but did the article say how much they actually got done? I have know some very creative people in my life, but getting them to complete a project was "fun". lol

what is funny is that I do need to have my office and desk organized to be able to function and get stuff done. now its not super picky neat, but I do best if I have only one project on my desk at a time.

and it is AMAZING how fast a tiny hospital room can become trashed. spent about 20 minutes picking up stuff this morning. will try to organize the supplies more this afternoon when my son wakes up.

Ever notice how the smallest organization project is satisfying? It produces a calm for me. That said, I read an article yesterday that people whose offices are cluttered tend to be more creative than those with a highly organized space. The truth is that while I do try to be organized, I know I am not a meticulous person and I like that about me too. I like to think my home is relaxed and that my family doesn't have to be hyper-vigilant about projects, etc. It's tricky to find the right amount of "breathing room," as well as balance. I'm fortunate to have a husband who cleans up the kitchen every night after dinner...

Noodling over time spent organizing vs. healthy clutter. Anyone else share these kind of thoughts?

Sending healing thoughts to you and your boy, Knuckles.

Up early this morning and planning a dinner party for two friends tonight. I like the organization that cooking requires and the daily pace of it. We eat out at max a couple of times each week so the prep is really a big part of my life. I am still benefiting from all my freezer organization a few weeks ago. What a nice change. I have lots more trouble staying on top of refrigerator "action!"

surgery was yesterday evening and it was more extensive than they had hoped. so now we pray that it will heal properly (50/50 chance from what I understand)

I hope you have a comfortable place to sleep at the hospital. I have a friend who has spent many many night/weeks/ etc. at the hospital with her daughter and years ago she had to sleep on a cot......now at least they have a fold out sofa at Sharp for family to stay in the room.
Has the surgery been completed. Prayers for rapid healing continue....... TB

Good for you Littleguysmom! Little by little we make our lives more satisfying with all this organization. Today I put the very last of my summer/fall clothes away. I always keep a few thinking there will be warm days. But fall is moving to winter and I know I'm not wearing that t shirt + a dozen more. Felt good. Wearing sweater today (-:

Making some progress today on tasks that have been hanging around....
Had the Sprinkler repair guy here this AM and he adjusted all my sprinklers and I think I am in good shape now. Time will tell if the lawns are fully covered by the spray.
-------
Drove to 4 several different stores looking for a replacement battery for my pedometer and so it is now running again. Also repaired the lanyard on my "walking" flashlight that I carry when I walk at night (every Tues. & Thurs.)
So that is a load off my mind.............and I even had lunch with some old friends - it was good to get caught up.

Now I'm going to sort thru some quilting fabrics and see if I can pare down that stuff - I tend to "hoard" fabrics LOL

Hoping for healing for your son Knuckles. It's so hard when your kids have problems. I'm hoping he will be home for Thanksgiving. Try to get some rest when you can.
