I'm home from the retreat and really exhausted.
The 3 of us who where there until the end - cleaned the whole condo this AM.
All the cleaning crew will need to do is laundry and re-make the beds.
Whew!!!
I was up and down a flight of stairs to the garage numerous time - I lost count,
so that was my exercise for the day.

Fixed breakfast and lunch for my 4 year-old granddaughter and cleaned up the kitchen at her house, emptying the dishwasher and setting things right for the rest of the day. Then we got to play and read her books and tickle, talk, and listen. We sang songs, some of the same ones I sang to her mama when she was little, and watched a video. What fun!

I'm still at the quilting retreat....but had to come home to shower/shampoo and go to an
ortho appt. for my shoulder.
I'm exhausted !!!
Looking forward to being home tomorrow AM.
Tonight I need to go back and help clean out the unit and pack everything up.
I did make major progress on my Halloween quilt.

Celia - yep, will be glad to get colonoscopy out of way, but first an all liquid diet today. Fortunately, coffee okay! Yay for that.

May be a good day for simple organization projects around house. Plan to finish packing and clean desk. Fortunately, I only have one, Dianna. Good for you for taking care of two!

Yoga for me today. A good thing.

I managed to clean up the kitchen this morning before I left home. even though I know it will need it again when I get back. Why doesn't he see the sticky stuff on the table like I do? Oh well he's so good at everything else I can keep cleaning up after him. It's only been 45 years! lol emoticon I can do it!

Life will be better after that colonoscopy, right, Toni?

WTG with the bed making, Knuckles! I always make my bed, but it's for ME. I love to come into the bedroom and find my little oasis neat and orderly and just begging me to climb in.

Another jam-packed weekend that left me with little time to barely maintain. Got all but one load of weekend laundry done, but I didn't get to that sticky kitchen floor, and I didn't make what will likely be the last batch of nectar for the hummingbird feeders (we have a few stragglers left).

I have to be organized this week as I am back from a trip, preparing for a screening colonoscopy AND leaving again for a 3 day trip on Wednesday night. I plan to sort out my food plan for next couple of days for the colonoscopy prep as well as to get packed for trip.

Cannot believe we will be starting October tomorrow, but here we go!

Major cleanup in the kitchen this morning. There is a table under that stuff that USED to be piled all over it after all. The table looks great, and the counter tops are sparkling! I put supper in the crock pot early and could hardly believe how good it felt to have supper out of the way by 11AM.

OMG - I had to mow the lawns again (already), I got the front and back done and had to water all the yard by hand - since the sprinklers need repair.
I need to get my act together for the quilting retreat. I need to be there Sunday AM and I have
a very full day tomorrow.
Since it is here in town at the beach - If I forget anything important, I can always come home and get it. LOL

The house painting is coming along very nicely! We changed the color and it is looking so nice! The smell is horrible right now, as they are doing windows and the have to be open for them to do the sills. And its cold in here! LOL The mornings are chilly now. And keeping 6 dogs from barking everytime they see someone in the windows is exhausting! I can not wait for this to be done.

I have not gotten up to my daughters room to do anything yet as the painting is taking way more time from me than I thought. But she is coming home today for the weekend already, so I am glad I didn't throw anything out yet. She was so excited to be finally leaving home, but I think she is a little homesick already. 1 week! Thats all she's been gone, LOL!!! Hope she takes alot more stuff back with her this time too!

I need to go find a sweatshirt. Have a great day everyone!

I seem to be posting about 50% of the days lately. Despite the looming government shutdown (or maybe because if it), workload has accelerated greatly. And my boss left town for a week, leaving me as acting branch chief to deal with all the headaches but without the base of knowledge. Dreading this.

Anyway, yesterday I washed towels, cleaned up the dirty dishes DH had left from the previous day (yes, still pet peeve), paid bills, and collected the trash and recycling. In other words, I'm just barely keeping up. The kitchen floor is so sticky and gross that I'm embarrassed someone will be coming to the house today and have to see it. On the list for what little weekend I may actually experience at home, since autumn weekends are chock-a-block.

Cleaning lady was here today and my house looks wonderful.
I went to lunch with my lunch bunch and we had a great visit - sat for over 3 hours just enjoying the company and catching up.
-----
I did a bit of yard work this evening and I'm trying again to spray the spider mites on my Angel's Trumpet plants. Feels like it is a never ending battle...
I also bought some foam spray to try to hit the termites in the fence that separates my house and the one next door (it's for sale.) I have an appt. set for the 4th to get an estimate on tenting my house.
Then I need to set an appt. to have my sprinklers repaired.
I am feeling over whelmed by all this stuff.
-----------
I'm scheduled to go to a quilting retreat with my Prayers & Squares group 29th to 2nd.
But the trip is kind of falling apart - several of the ladies are cancelling.

I'm loving fall, too, Toni. Hope the weather is spectacular for your Boston trip.

Yesterday, I got some grocery shopping done, triaged two days of mail, decluttered two surfaces, paid bills, and got more financial tracking done. Also cleaned up the kitchen. And cleaned up three barf spot from cat. All on the carpet, of COURSE. So glad it's hump day.

Milestone time, Lisa. It sounds so exciting to recapture a room, as well as to spruce up your house.

Moving slow on the organizing front here. Lots of travel ahead. Goal is to deal with books some this week. Passing some on; putting others away; trying to organize what my reading plan is for next few months.

Loving fall's arrival! emoticon

Today I cleaned out all my food cabinets, threw away expired foods, washed the shelves, and re-organized the remaining food. Then I moved to the refrigerator and did the same thing.

Tomorrow I plan to go through the bathroom closet and drawers.

Its been a good weekend for me! Moved out my last daughter!!! She is now at her new college for the next 3 years! Her and a bunch of her stuff. Now I have to get up in her room and do some stuff-chuckin'. I want that room for a longarm sewing machine eventually so I have to get lots of stuff out of there. Also got lots of sewing stuff done this weekend.

And today is the biggest cleaning job of all! We are having the house power washed! We are having the house painted starting tomorrow, but what a difference already!! I can see bright light coming in my clean windows now!! I told DH we have to do this cleaning every year. I love the windows so clean! We have a 2 story house and this is not something I can do myself. I can do inside, but not outside.

Have a good day!! emoticon

Won't even try to catalog all the stuff I did over the weekend, but it was split among checking long stretches of trails for walking clubs (~10K Saturday, 17K Sunday), shopping, errands, and cleaning. Oh, and a teensy bit of decluttering. It seemed like I never stopped moving, but that isn't true. DH and I ate lunch out (too much) both days. The scale does not lie.

quickbooks is geared more toward businesses as TB said, but it can be used for personal if you want.

Quicken is geared toward individuals. and it can be as simple was writing a check and recording it in your check register. (you can make it more complicated but there really doesn't need to be that way) but by doing it on the computer, you take care of three manual steps at one time. (writing the check, recording in register, categorizing expenses for taxes or budgeting)

I have managed to make my bed every day (including the day the dog barfed all over it) for a week. its still a struggle though. Got half the laundry done yesterday and rearranged computer cords and modem.

Doing laundry between activities today and getting ready for travel and house guests in next few weeks. I'll be heading to Boston (hi Linda!) on Thursday for a conference and for family time. Not only do I get to see my new grandson & his family, but also his youngest uncle, my college son. It's hard to think of a happier way to spend time than with new learning, family, and a visit to a lovely city.

Now off to wash those sheets!

Thanks for the info on Quicken, Toni and Knuckles. I will look at it again. For those of you using Quickbooks, is that program better than Quicken? Do I have to be practically an accountant to use either?

Great news from the eye doc, Travelbug!

Whopper of a day yesterday. I seem to be way busier when I telework than when I am in the office. I had to get cleaned up for an early doctor appointment, so I didn't get a morning walk in. When I got back to my desk, my butt was glued to the chair for the rest of the day, and DH graciously ran all the errands. At least I got ST in after work, and I washed a load of towels and got the trash/recycling collected for DH to haul to the curb. Then DH and I stopped the day, relaxed with a glass of wine, and fixed a nice meal for our anniversary.

you do not HAVE to link to your bank accounts with Quicken, only if you want it to automatically enter you checks for you. at least you didn't used to have to. I mainly use quickbooks with my clients and you don't have to link.

having a computer program that prints and records your checks really is a huge help for my finances.

I just refinanced my house and really need to get a solid budget in place.

Organizing frenzy around here. Took several bags to Donation center. Worked "from the ground up" at my desk. It's a trick I use when my desk overwhelms me. I put everything on the floor and then bring it back one at a time, discarding, filing, organizing. Crazy, I know, but it works for me.

Realized my dress clothes--I mean really dressy stuff--is seriously out of date. Passing most of it on and hoping that next rare occasion is awhile off.

Good luck with Quicken, Celia. My husband uses it and does not connect to our accounts either. So there must be a way... Want me to ask him?

And thanks for the home emergency reminders! This slow storm season has me in a lull and I need to pay attention.

Hope you can get your sprinklers fixed at a reasonable cost, Travelbug. And wise of you to update your home emergency supplies. You reminded me that it's still hurricane season, and we need to take a look at our supplies. We should have enough water and food, but if power goes out, we need enough "sanitary" supplies to last a few days, since we don't have a generator. No power, no water, no flushing.

Yesterday, I did not get to cleaning out paper junk in the office, but I did a little at home. In addition, I finished the laundry from the weekend and created a financial spreadsheet for our expenses, so I can pass that to our financial planner after I finish populating it. I checked into Quicken, but the first thing it said was that I'd need to link to my bank with my password. Um, no.

It was cool enough this afternoon to do some yardwork.
I mowed the grass (front and back) , raked, edged, cleared all the stuff up and
watered.
I discovered that my sprinklers need repair, so I called a place today that has
excellent reviews on YELP and I hope the guy calls me back.
AND
I hope it doesn't cost and arm and a leg to get the repairs done.
I need several new sprinkler heads (which I could do myself), but need
someone to really look at the system and see if the coverage in my
yard can be improved (to get rid of the bald spots.)
LOL

Thanks for the reminder Celia, I'm retired, so no office to think about.
But it is wildfire season here in Southern Calif. and I need to update my emergency package that I have in my garage.
I know some of it needs to be tossed and updated.

Funny thing yesterday. I rarely think about my shelter-in-place stash at work, but when I made my to-do list at 6:15 yesterday morning, I put "inventory shelter-in-place supplies" on. About two hours later the Navy Yard shooting happened 10 miles south of where I work, and a whole lot of people sheltered in place. Scary. Anyway, my personal supplies include a change of clothes, extra undies, a blanket, and a pillow, along with food and water that I rotate through for lunches. I'm going to get extra food and water today. Yesterday's events made me realize how quickly things can change.

I agree, Travelbug. I saw videos of flooding in Boulder (just there a couple of weeks ago) and in Estes Park (one of my favorite places on earth) in addition to a slide show of the road up Big Thompson Canyon washed out along with many homes. So sad.

Toni, I think my weekend was like yours. We are getting ready for our annual walking festival in Arlington, VA, October 18-20, so DH and I spent the weekend walking the trails, checking directions, and keeping any eye peeled for any new or imminent construction. Six miles Saturday and fifteen yesterday left precious little time for chores and administrative items with looming deadlines, but I did as much as I could. Got all but two loads of laundry done, and those are small cold-water loads I can do this week in the evening. A plus is that we managed to eat lunch both days at our favorite eatery in Arlington and not overdo it.

Yesterday I got a lot accomplished. I cleaned out my husband's old childhood bedroom because that is going to become a nursery. Unfortunately, my husband is a pack rat and would not even let me get rid of an old coffee table and end table that we have no use for. I moved it out into the hallway upstairs and told him to find a place for it because it's not going in the nursery. Hopefully he will eventually let me take it to a consignment store. But anyway, I got all of his clothes moved to our bedroom closet and put other things away in totes in the storage room. The room is now empty and ready to paint.

Our lives can change with every breath we take.

Ha, haaaaa, Knuckles! I also leave my suitcase out too often, so it makes me feel like I accomplished a great feat if I get it unpacked and stored right away.

Wow, Carol, you are on top of things!

Travelbug, now that YOUR house is tidy, wanna start on mine?

Toni, feels good to get a handle on the errands, right? I also took care of a long overdue medical appointment yesterday.

In addition to the medical appointment, it was a VERY busy telework day yesterday, and I had ST right after. I did manage to pay the bills and clean up the kitchen THREE times (hate when dirty dishes are in my way when it's time to prepare the next meal). Last night, I collected all the trash and recycling for DH to take out. Which reminds me that I need to remind HIM to actually haul the recycling bin to the curb. It was still in the garage when I left for work this morning.

Travelbug - neat you are on top of your medical insurance. It's so important, isn't it?

I took care of bank deposits yesterday, and had a health care appointment. Then lunch with a dear friend who always helps me get my compass pointing "true North." My book group meets at my house on Saturday morning. Need to come up with a good snack... Working on that.

Have a wonderful day, team mates.

Major task out of the way for me !!!! I met with an insurance counselor this afternoon to figure out all that I need to do for my medical insurance. I start Medi-Care in January and I was just spinning with bits and pieces of info.
She pulled it all together for me and helped me make a decision
Wahoo!!!!!

PS - laundry is all done and put away, all papers are picked up (for now) and I'm feeling like my house is pretty tidy.

I cleaned out my closet, washed my summer shirts and put them away, brought out my fall and winter tops and sweaters, and took a bag of no-longer-worn clothes to the Good Will. Someone else will enjoy them!

Travelbug, I'm SO like you with the piles on every horizontal surface. Do you think we were twins separated at birth?

On a positive note, I realize I am not giving myself credit for doing some good financial organizing. Our financial planner has been after us for two years to pull together paperwork she needed to build a decent plan, and we've just dawdled, mostly because DH was not on board with having all our financial matters in one place. He has stepped up to the plate now, and we are almost there in terms of getting all the papers to her.

I just looked around my house and in just one day - there is "junk" on almost every horizontal surface. I can't believe how much accumulated in just one day.
I really need to get a grip on this stuff.
I'm so disgusted, I'm going to bed and try not to think about it until tomorrow.
I can get most of it put away or trashed before I got to lunch with my friends.

Nothing like putting the house back in order after guests leave, right, Toni?

Finished my laundry and club admin last night, along with some decluttering and cleaning up the kitchen. Unfortunately, I went to bed later than planned and am dragging today. This is a long day, so my Pick 3 will focus on the office.

Catching up. Toni's post reminded me that I made great progress pulling together papers for our financial planner...she has only been after us for two years to get this info together. That was Friday. Saturday, I got through my Pick 3 and extras, including doing some volksmarch club admin. Today, our volksmarch walked a worker's walk to measure a trail for the club's walking festival next month. It was supposed to be 12K but measured with the wheel at 14K. We were intending to measure the longer trail (projected at 23K), but we decided at the split between the supposed 12K and the 23K trails that it was too hot to finish the longer trail, so we measured the shorter one. Yikes! I suspect the longer trail will come in at 24 or 25K. That and the club's breakfast meeting took most of the day. I am really tired because we walked in humid, 90 degree temps with lots of hills and uneven terrain, but I am finishing the laundry, I got the recycling together and and the trash out, and I will finish come easy club admin after dinner while I can veg on the couch with my feet up.

Good morning. Tending to financial matters (we have a will review coming up) is so important and so--I think you may be here too--boring!!! Argh. Pain in the tush.

I have guests this weekend, so aside from keeping the counters clean after meals... Oh, and I take credit for making some killer menu plans as well. (-:

Have a good weekend everyone!

Not much yesterday, and about all I got done was getting the trash out and the kitchen tidied up after dinner. Very stressful work day for a telework day, and we had a looooong meeting with our financial planner after work.

Thurs. changed bed linens, picked up lots of papers and junk that seems to reproduce
like rabbits.
Watered the plants ---- it is still very very hot and humid here (we usually don't get this
heat and humidity in Southern CA.)
I'm really suffering......went to the library again today to sit in their AC, found a knitting group was meeting there..... I had my knitting with me, so I joined them and it was lots of fun.
and it was nice a cool in the library :)

Thanks for the good wishes for my enhanced telework trial. I am very much looking forward to it, and so is the colleague I'll be pairing with. We have the longest commutes in the branch, with mine being longer than his.

Travelbug, I SO resonate with your friend's paper problem. I really want to deal with a paper one time and be done with it, but I keep shifting papers around, too. One small victory is that I have started shredding utility bills after I pay them rather than filing them. Or, actually, rather than shoving them into a pile that only gets attention once it topples over. I figure the only real info I need from phone, gas, electric, etc., bills is how much I paid, and that's in the checkbook.

Toni, what a great story about letting go of the bowl that carried sad memories for you. It's so refreshing that you could symbolically release the sadness and decide to keep the good memories. As for closets, I'm with you! My closet used to be bursting at the seams with clothes of all sizes, and now I also have a reasonable number. I'm also finding that now I want to try on clothes before I buy, so I don't just order a bunch of baggy things from catalogs. The act of going to the store and seeing how the clothes fit has helped my budget, as I end up NOT buying most of the time.

Yesterday, I got through most of my Pick 3 and my bonus. I'm thankful for that thread, because it keeps a few tasks in front of my face instead of an impossible to-do list, and that is much more manageable and less stressful.

Good morning. So happy for you Celia. Those long hours commuting can really add up and take a toll. I hope you find a routine that is absolutely awesome with your new situation.

What to keep, what to toss. So hard sometimes, Travelbug. Such a dilemma at times. I do sometimes think that the more we let go of, the more that comes to us in new opportunities. But that's hard to know when we are talking about a piece of paper! (Or a child's old drawing).

I had a falling out with a good friend long ago. Sadly it was a serious rift and we never could put it back together. I had a bowl she had made me for the longest time but this year I could pass it on. It made the whole experience lighter. I still remember the goodness without the weight of what was lost now. Letting go of the heavy object really helped me. Who knew? Good luck to you with your decisions.

On a lighter note, I notice I have a reasonable number of clothes in my closet now, down from a screwy amount when my weight fluctuated or was just plain up. I am committed! And I like my closet too. Cheers, mates!

Celia glad to hear that you will have the opportunity to try working from home for a while.
-------------
I was talking to my friends today at our weekly lunch - we are all in our 60s and 70s and
it was funny we all talked about how we hold on to papers that we think are important.... and
keep keepsakes and other things that we know we could get rid of.
One friend described how she picks up a piece of paper and moves it around and still doesn't know what to do with it and so she keep it. She was describing me exactly.
We all really laughed about it and it was an eye opener for me.....

Got through 2 of my Pick 3 yesterday. Unfortunately, my boss took a tumble in the courtyard between buildings and got pretty banged up...broken nose, a couple of gashes requiring stitches. So I am filling in for her, at least as an office presence. She may not be here in person, but she has been responding to e-mails since early this morning.

On a good note, I was notified yesterday I was selected for an enhanced telework pilot program starting next month. I'll get to telework half time and share a cubicle with an office mate for the three-month trial. Oh Heavenly Day! With my gawdawful commute, this is a blessing!

It is too hot and humid here to do much of anything. NO AC - so I'm taking it easy.

Schnootie, I hear ya! I get all excited about organizing and go like gangbusters at first, but I also quickly run out of steam, usually by the first item that sidetracks me.

This weekend I was firmly glued to the TV and mystery marathons, so I did most of my cleaning/organizing during commercial breaks. My biggest accomplishment was moving the heavy bookshelf in the office while DH was gone. DH didn't have the patience to make this move when we got new office furniture, so he took MY new 2-drawer file and parked it waaaaaaaaaay across the office from my desk to be the printer stand. Grrrrrrr. So, I moved the bookcase myself, which involved removing all the books and the knickknacks, taking out half the shelves, lifting and tugging the case over the carpet ruts, dusting EVERYTHING (ah choo!), triaging the books (cleared most of one shelf), replacing the shelves, and returning the rest of the stuff to the case. Oh, yeah, and I did the laundry and decluttered the breakfast table and coffee table. And paid the bills. And cleaned up the kitchen. Not bad for short spurts.

Yard decorations. I removed the Summer stuff and put out the Fall.
I bought a new 20x40inch flag to hang on the eaves, a cute fall wreath was on sale super cheap at JoAnns and I was able to get wedding shower gift that has been "hanging on my mind" - the young couple is really Goth, so I found some appropriate guest towels for their bathroom. (found them in the Halloween section.)

Now I'm picking up stuff in the kitchen - that "landing pad" that is suppose to be my kitchen counter.

I started tackling filing and organizing my paperwork yesterday. I took my laptop with what I call "Dusting Music" into the room. It's my daughter Julia's old room. She has been in NYC for the past 3 years going to college, so she is only home a few times a year. I turned her room into my library/office. But it still has tons of her stuff in it, that I really need to get up to the attic. I bought big plastic bins with lids so it can be stored safely. I would like to make this into an office/guest room and eventually get a day bed that can be turned into a double bed. The room is really small and cute, so I am very excited to start that project. I just run out of steam so quickly when it comes to organizing. But a good chunk of the paperwork is ready to be filed away now, so that is good.

I thought it was a bit cooler this morning, but still very muggy when I took the dogs out just now.

OOPS - I started a Sept. thread too.
Great minds think alike.....but I'm moving my post over here.....

Wahoo - a new month - fresh start.....and thank goodness the weather feels a little bit cooler this AM.
I always like the feeling of have a fresh start each month. I feel like I made really good progress in August . I was able to keep the debris around the house pretty much tucked away where it belongs. I also made 2 trips to the Goodwill Drop Off.

Here's to continuing in September.

After last week, I am happy for the clean slate a new month brings. Back to the plan in more ways than one. First, I am getting back to eating for maintenance. Second, I'm spending this hot day working inside. Laundry is humming, and I'm composing my to-do list.

New month. While I know there are lots of seasonal things to do ahead, I am at this time organizing for a visit from my sister and her husband next week. Planning meals and events.
