Grace is always a great thing to find.

I will search on the net for the machines or maybe a place where I could pay to have the home videos saved.

Had a wonderful visit with SIL and nephew today. Found that meditation and programming helped me to be a gracious hostess while alloing Mom to believe she was the leader. Prepared good meals for them, etc. FOUND the grace to do this. they will be here all week.

This morning before I went over there I was able to get a vitamin B!2 shot, do two loads of laundry, dice and freeze two quarts of rhubarb, clean the intake on the pond pump and touch up the paint on two garage windows. Seems pretty productive to me!

The Silva course really IS helping me to program myself for success!

didn't find anything "fun", but we did manage to clean the front half of the house yesterday afternoon. including organizing one closet so the door will shut again (the kid that lives with us did that one since it is mainly his stuff)

took a big bunch of recycling out including some big cardboard boxes. And the pet rats' cage no longer looks like a hoarders house (give the rats a couple of days to "decorate" and I'm sure it will be a mess again, but that is how they love it lol)

I have been copying home movies from VHS to DVD this week (and watching them at the same time) had forgotten we had some of them, including the baby shower given my my neighbors for my first kiddo, 23 years ago. it was great because it wasn't just the wives, but the whole families I was able to see again and remember the good times we had.

I hope today is better for you Cathy! Glad you have strategies that allow you to function and be in control of the syndrome rather than it controlling you!

Yesterday I got a load of laundry done at my house. My SIL and nephew are visiting from CT for a week. I spend the afternoon helping my 82 year old mom get ready for them to visit and stay at her apartment. I changed beds, vacruumed, dusted, etc. there. I took her to Wally's for grocery shopping. She had a great time, so that is PRICELESS!

Nephew is 13 and in that all arms and legs adolescent stage. My brother passed away six years ago. He would be so proud of his son!

Getting ready to meditate and chop some fresh rhubarb so it can be frozen. Still working on those garage windows!

Today was a CFS day, so I did my cleaning in sets of 10 objects. It really made it a lot more doable. I even got the guest bed cleared off and part of the work table near my bed.

If I found anything, I am too tired to remember.

The pectin was in our local IGA, so it must be in most stores. Be sure to buy apple juice or white grape juice. I had to drive back to town. I used honey to sweeten it up a little. We will see how it tastes tomorrow.

FOUND the Juiceman juicer right where I had put it in the pantry 15 years ago. I still prefer the Vita Mix, but since I am missing parts, the juicer worked great. I canned some strawberry juice too and made a slushy for dinner with strawberries, bananas, celery, carrots, orange juice and apple juice. I will probably have to freeze part of that.

Cleared off the top of a 55 gallon aquarium in my living room. It is a "holdover" project that has been waiting for me for several years. The fish are gone and I emptied the water. I've never taken it out of the house. Next week when my nephew is visiting it is going out! I believe it will open the room up a bit and make it appear larger.

I touched up the paint on the garage windows. Going to add some new pics to my gallery tonight. Have a great Saturday evening!

Is the pectin without sugar in most stores? I would seriously consider buying crates of berries if I could find it.

Knuckles,
I struggle with CFS and vertigo periodically. The 25 things thread was my life saver. Only I cut it down to ten things. Then I would lay down for ten minutes or till I could get up again. Now I feel better and am able to clean on the kitchen every time I walk into it. It has just become a habit.

FOUND 14 jars of strawberry syrup. Think we did not cook the berries long enough. Still my son should enjoy it over shortcake and waffles. Also FOUND a pectin for making jam without sugar. I bought it and plan to pick up another crate of berries today.

emoticon Knuckles. Glad you're here!

As LQ said start with putting away 1 thing. The first thread I followed on Organized Life was "put 25 things away and report here". Papers on my desktop were thrown away and filed away. I reported back with the 25 things and was so happy. The next time I only put away a few things and didn't report it -- but those things were still off the desk. I started numbering and making a brief description of what the item was and the action I took on it so I could keep track.

Every day it was a different #, sometimes I reported, sometimes I didn't. Reporting became secondary to reaching the goal of clearing my desk.

It's also amazing the valuable stuff I've found while organizing to the point where it's become like a treasure hunt.

If you read some of the wonderful things people have found, I'll bet you'll be starting your own treasure hunt soon!

emoticon emoticon

There are a lot of things going on at work but I still got a chance to make some decisions about my new office. Next week I'll be organizing and downsizing at work preparing for that move.

This weekend my goal is to work more on the garage, go through more receipts and work on my and my DD's costumes for the Otakon convention.

Hi Knuckles! Welcome to the string. Start out putting SOMETHING, ANYTHING away. Then build on it. Hope you will continue to post on this string. We are having a great time here!

I "found" the gumption to make a definitive decision today. My mom has DSL as part of her apt rental. It is spotty at best and mostly doesn't work. She was fussing about paying for an ISP. Today I just signed her up for netzero and had it billed to me. She'll have internet without a bill. Feels great!

Took a good shower and put on clean clothes because I was in such a funk before I took care of the internet. Now I feel ready to deal with the top of the aquarium and the other things I'd like to get done today.

Happy treasure hunting, Team!

I "found" that I like the homemade laundry soap too! The recipe I made runs between one and two cents per load. My recipe made a jelly like liquid. It works well. I accidently ruined a shirt by pouring it directly on it. Now I scoops the gel into a glass and let the washer stream dissolve it into the tub. I add the clothes after the tub is partially filled to avoid any potential problems.

Glad you connected with some new people. It is fun when that happens. Good luck with your canning.

I looked at my garage windows this morning and had a real feeling of satisfaction. It was a big job. I've cleared the first set of challenges involved with it. Today it is raining so it will be a day of inside activities. It is probably time. I've been pushing myself pretty hard this week.

Next week my nephew will be visiting from Connecticut. He is going to help me carry an aquarium out to my garage. Time to clear the clutter off the top and remove the rocks and gravel from inside it. I got rid of the fish and water a couple years ago. It will be great to get the thing out of the house!

I climbed the step ladder. I believe the water bath canner is in a plastic container over the sheep stall. If I am not dizzy tomorrow, I will try to get it down. I might just invest in a new one too.

Today was fun. I went to the roadside stand selling strawberries by my house and recognized the name. I mentioned that my cousin was neighbors to the Crawford's 40 years ago and asked if he knew her. I FOUND out that not only did he know her he is a shirt tail cousin on the other side of the family. Fun to make connections with new people.

Finished processing the homemade laundry soap today, and cut up a crate of strawberries for preserves. I froze some just for eating and the rest is sitting in sugar in the fridge. I could not find any recipes that used agave or honey or even raw sugar. I will start experimenting, but I have not canned in 20 years, so the first batch I am splitting with my DIL and tomorrow night I am taking everything to her house to finish the process so she can start learning to can. She is really into being thrifty now.

I FOUND homemade laundry soap is cost effective. DIL spent $10.00 on supplies and she has enough left over to make another batch. We made a five gallon container and split it. I figure I have enough soap for 150 loads of laundry. So if the cheap laundry soap is $5.00 at Walmart for 50 loads. We just spent $5.00 for 300 loads of laundry.

Hope you found it easily and that it was still usable!

Today I was out with Mom most of the day. I did get a coat of paint onto the two garage windows I had calked. It looks great from a distance. It will take another coat or perhaps two more before it totally covers. Went ahead and took pics of the windows on the back wall and the small door that I haven't worked on yet.

Tomorrow if the weather permits I'll try to limit myself to two hours so that other inside tasks don't fall behind.

Hope that everyone had a great day that yielded many treasures!

It could have been two sets of speakers instead of one.

I need to get downstairs and start looking for my canning supplies. I think my water bath cooker is over the sheep pen in the garage. Hope it is still usable.

Hello, Fellow Treasure Hunters and Finders,

Cathy you are so sweet, though the new speakers won't be in the landfill, I'm sad to say, the old speakers are totally useless. So unless my DD, who took them away to try on her laptop, is able to revive them, I won't deserve you Green Earth medal. emoticon

There are few more things in his office which I can use, the other things I'll put on our "free stuff" table in case anyone else wants them.

LQ, you SHOULD feel proud of yourself. Reading about your progress and the care in which you're taking on your project is encouraging to me. I hope you'll be able to post some picture on your sparkpage. I'm really finding that organizing my environment is helping to organize my mind, causing me to think more clearly and solve more problems. YOU WILL DO IT!

I think we ALL are doing it.

TODAY should be a "lucky" day for everyone because it's 7/7/11. I believe we are bringing "luck" into our lives by making positive changes and doing positive things. Everyone make it a super positive day!

Nice, Kinch!

I went to my exercise class and "found" that I still had enough energy after to tape the windows with FROG tape so they will be ready to paint first thing in the morning! I feel SO proud of myself. My thoughts came slowly so that it was possible for me to work with a complex job like this. There are a number of other problems to solve as I finish painting the garage. I'm confident that I will be able to solve them and complete the job!

Have a fantastic Thursday!

You guys are great on the frozen peppers, I'll dice them and freeze them then thaw and use in my dishes to be cooked. I'm so glad I asked. My DH and I LOVE peppers and I remember when I used to do once a month cooking (which I am definitely thinking about starting up again) I used to chop all the onions for all the recipes the day b4 cooking and store them overnight in plastic, but in the fridge, not the freezer because I was going to use them the next day. I stopped doing that when I discovered dried onion and garlic which I buy in the huge jars at Sam's Club. No mess, no fuss, no smell.

*******

Well, the good karma is continuing for me. Things really changed for me when I started getting control back in my life by organizing.

In the past 2 weeks the speakers for our computer have slowly been dying. I planned on calling the company up and asking about new speakers. Well, I found a pair of speakers while I was going through the drawers and cabinets of my director who just left for a job at another university. I emailed him to find out if he wanted to keep any of the stuff I found and I let him know that I'd like to have the speakers if he didn't want them. He gave the ok and they're already hooked up.

Score!

WOW on the Window. I did caulk and paint windows in my early 30s but I don't think I have the stamina now.

Frozen peppers. Any of the fruits or veggies that are wet can be chopped and froze spread out on a cookie sheet. After they freeze then pack them in their freezer containers. I eat strawberries while they are still frozen. I suppose the peppers could be eaten frozen too, but I think it would be better to cook them into something. I don't think they would be great on a fresh salad. Not sure though. I have always just froze them in single serve pkg. and then added them to soups, salsa, omelets etc. later.

I "FOUND" that there is little that can stop a determined woman! Today I went out to work on the garage windows again. While scraping one that was "wiggly" due to the age of the frame I realized that I could put a piece of quarter round molding up at the top to hold the glass steady.

I went to the home store got such a piece of wood, nails, glaziers points and MORE calk. A couple hours and a couple dozen trips up and down the ladder later I finished. It is now repaired so it will last and that huge pane of glass will not fall out. (I will take pictures soon!) I calked the other sides of the glass and finished that window. I sealed it to the cinder block building with silicone. Tomorrow it will be ready to paint!

It is interesting to find out what one can do when it is really necessary to do it!

Diced peppers will freeze nicely. They are available in some grocery stores prechopped and frozen.

Have a great evening!

Gee, I thought I was doing something when I found a Good Housekeeping from 2005! emoticon I saved a chicken and bulgur recipe that I am trying out on DH for the first time this evening! It's the first time I have ever tried bulgur and I am 99% certain it is for him, too.

When I freeze peppers, I just put them in a plastic freezer bag and squeeze out as much air as I can. I don't notice that they are any more watery than when I re-heat leftovers...I do make sure I used them up in just a few months, though, too. I don't know if that would make any difference. Anyone else have anything to share on the topic? I want to learn all that I can!

LQ, I've never frozen peppers b4. I thought their water content was too high and they would thaw out mushy. Do you do anything other than stick them in the freezer?

4 the next 14 days I'm trying to get myself as fit as I can for my physical. While working out on the elliptical in the garage, I'm going through some paperwork. Today I 'rediscovered' a Home magazine that was dated April 1991. I went through it thoroughly and found 2 (yes only 2) things that I was interested in. I pulled the pages and have already thrown the rest of it into the recycle bin. Once I've acted on the 2 items, they're going to be recycled, too.

Great find on the truck title! Now it is right where you need it! Tomorrow this time that bill will be a memory! Processing the mail as it reaches the house has been the simplest way for me to handle it too. Otherwise it just creates a new hotspot and a hunt for a missing paper later.

Cleaned the kitchen for company today. "Found" enough goodies in the fridge and freezer to make a large skillet of goulash that will provide for several meals. It includes two packages of frozen peppers, six frozen meatballs, a bag of tiny stuffed pepper halves, part of a jar of pizza sauce and the rest of an onion from the fridge! I stretched it out with a few Roma tomatoes.

Found I'm getting better at calking. One large window is finished. Tomorrow I'll paint it if the weather cooperates. Still have more calking to do and scraping! Still making it a couple hours at a time.

Have a great evening and happy hunting tmo!

pruned in the garden, took care of some mail and paperwork and FOUND the truck registration in the mail today so put it promptly in the zipper bag in the glove box in the truck. Also FOUND a medical bill in the mail today, so taped it to the kitchen wall to be paid tomorrow. Tossed the rest of the mail in the burn pile.

I'm looking forward to seeing that, Kinch!

I just finished organizing my freezer. I had leftover peppers and onions I planned to eat with rigatoni for dinner. Found six meatballs and a container of homemade marinara sauce. Looks like I will feast for at least two or three meals! Woohoo!

Kitchen is looking pretty good!

Hey, Challenger, I count your purse as a find. Reusing and recycling are a big part of organizing especially since there's one less useless thing in your house - the old purse.

The next thing I want to post on my page - or maybe even you tube - is how I made an extension cord carrier out of a pail of kitty litter. My DH was very impressed.

Nice!

I'm expecting company next week (at Mom's apartment.) My 13 year old nephew will want to come to my house with a yard and goldfish pond so I'm taking this week to work on detailing the main floor of the house up. I'd also like to calk this evening. I've worked about 3/4 of the way across my countertops and cupboard doors. I'm hoping to have the kitchen done today. It got a bit disheveled with all the painting stuff being cleaned and being out of routine. It won't take more than a few hours to have it all shining again!

emoticon No, it is a woven belt and the fastener goes through the weave. But I DO need to make some new holes in a belt that I KNEW the location of!

I "found" a new summer purse this morning. The one that I had been using gave way on the handle and there was NO fixing it. The one that I "found" needed a new lining; then I realized that it is very tightly crocheted anyway, and I use zippered organizers for my things in a bag, anyway. So I cut the old lining away and slid those organizers in. "NEW" summer purse!

Hi, Redheadmom and welcome aboard and emoticon on finding your turquoise bracelet. I've been looking for a broach for quite some time now and you are giving me confidence that I'll find it. Maybe I better look under the sink.

Kinch's garage organizing, Day 2:

So today's find was another case of "should'a organized b4 shopping. Yesterday I bought some weed killer and today in the garage I found

yeah, yeah, weed killer - the exact same amt and brand that I bought yesterday. I KNOW all of it will be used, so I just consider it shopping early for the next one.

Meantime, I'm very pleased at how the garage is shaping up. I plan on taking some pictures tomorrow no matter what stage it's in and posting here.

A note: This weekend one of our local radio stations decided to do an All 80s weekend of music. That is the era when the DH and I met, so the radio has been my best friend while I've been working in the garage. Having some of my favorite tunes going in the background sure helps me with the work.

I'm done for the day, hope everyone has a great evening and a happy and safe 4th!

emoticon

Well no 'puter has at least helped you to be productive! Glad you've found a time when you can run the weed whacker.

I did about 16 feet of scraping and calking today. Worked on the paint stains on the concrete too. Will soon be able to start painting the window sashes on the garage. It is an older style detached garage, cinder block on the bottom and wood on the top. I would rather try to keep the windows that are in there intact than to have to pay even more to replace them in a few years. Besides, it is fun to learn something new.

I found that the product "goof off" works pretty well to remove dried paint from concrete.

emoticon Way to go on the bracelet. Doesn't it make you wonder how it got there?

No computer service yesterday evening. I had to go weed eat the yard some more. What a shame.

I FOUND it is easier to weed eat in the cool of night at 10PM. Good thing I live in the country and can do that.

Hugs to everyone else. I will try to catch up later.

When I remarried sixteen years ago, my children from my first marriage were 6 and 8. They gained stepsibs who were already grown and with young children. Yesterday I found a couple of postcards they had both written to their stepsisters after a visit there. They had written in the address portion, so I suppose that I probably provided them another one and watched more carefully, but it was a pleasant trip down memory lane. Reading these posts reminded me of my find.

The email from Mom IS a nice one! Glad you found it. The vintage instructions must have been fun too, lol! You will likely make a lot of progress with a whole Sunday to work in the garage.

I flaked out yesterday and just rested. The weather looks promising so after church I will likely have another go at calking the garage windows. They are so large that I am scraping and calking one side of each pane to ensure that they don't fall out. (I need more calk, lol!) I'm expecting dear SIL and nephew for a visit next weekend so will need to make sure that things are in good shape. Still leaning toward scaling back a bit. Was really exhausted yesterday.

Seems fitting to have a nice meal sometime today too. Maybe I'll pick up a steak or something to grill. Oops! Time for Mass! Have a great day fellow organizers!
Always there seems to be a treasure if we have our eyes open to see it.

Good Sunday morning, Fellow Treasure Hunters,

I plan to go back to the garage as soon as I finish posting. As a break, I'll probably head out to the farmer's market to get some veggies. I'm jealous of those of you with veggie gardens, but I have an herb garden in my suburban home and really enjoy stepping outside and pinching them to add to my recipes.

Thanks for the link, LQ, I checked it out and will get back to it.

My find today (so far) was in reorganizing my computer desk cabinet (a quick fix since there aren't that many things in there. I found the instruction manual for Windows 3.1 (THOSE were the days), an HP product guide from 2005-2006 and a product guide for Creative Wonders CD games; already put them in the recycle pile.

I also found an email I printed out which my mom sent me not too long after she started using it. Very emotional find for me because it was written after my dad died and before she died less than six months later. I put it in a protective sleeve and put it back, so I can have it read it again when I want.

LQ, as you say "What treasures await me today?"

Thank you, Kinch! I slept the afternoon away! An old friend called and talked for 40 minutes. Guess I'll knit for the evening.

Here is a link for Silva. They will send out quite a lot of material for free, seven lessons I think.

Good work Challenger. I've also heard that manuals can be stored in page protectors in a binder. Another possibility since you have kids. You may already have what you need laying around the house.
