Never did find the refrig papers emoticon

I have had a box (overstuffed) with some of my good work clothes (office attire) sitting in my living room for a while. I kept thinking I would get them to Goodwill. With my bad arm, I couldn't lift the box anyway. Yesterday a friend came by to get the clothes to give to someone she met at her office that needed them. What a blessing for us both.

Hey everyone. It's been a while but I'm checking back in. How are you?

I've been doing great with decluttering! I've shredded a few bags worth of old documents at home, "weeded" a pile of CDs to get rid of, sold some books, and got rid of about 15 years' worth of unneeded documentation at the office.

I know it's not totally related to this thread, but if you have a moment, I could use support with my fitness efforts -- it's been a while since I've blogged, but here's my latest about struggles with not liking the gym!

Spent yesterday running errands.

Re Filing Cabinet: My mom hid hers in a closet. My daughter bought two matching two drawer wooden filing cabinets and used them for night stands. If you do not have need for a four drawer filing cabinet you might consider those expanding pocket files. You can get them at Walmart for around three dollars, Then you could neatly file them in your bookcase or a dresser drawer.

Walmart has cheaper ones than the sample I showed in the link. They don't expand as far.
Good luck!

Maybe I need to have a party, haha!
Though my problem areas are the ones that company doesn't usually see...you know, those rooms where you throw everything so that nobody will see it emoticon
Today, cleaned the fridge/freezer and straightened the cupboards before making my grocery list. Grocery store after work tonight.
Tomorrows plan??? My bedroom closet...which I keep avoiding big time.

Having a party is the best motivation I know to clean up my house! Just did it for the Bears/Packers game and we don't even watch football! So happy with progress on the kids area. It seems the key for me is to throw out/donate a lot of stuff. Then it is easier to clean up. Kept the kids area clutter-free all week.

Papers pile up in the kitchen and there is no place to discreetly place a file cabinet. Any suggestions? This is one of my biggest problems.

Spent 10 minutes moving old straw with pitchfork so I could dig out the sheep's feeding tub from their old feeding station. Now I need to hose it down before putting it in the new stall. Unfortunately, just that little bit of intense exercise fatigued me to the point of needing to lay down. I thought ten minutes was reasonable and moderate. CFS is the pits.

I worked in master closet for about 20 min yesterday. I can not believe how much you can get done in that small amount of time. Yes I still have a ways to go before its done but being able to see the big difference that small 20 min made when I walk into the closet gives me the motivation to keep pushing forward. And what a mood booster!

Sherri, sounds to me like you are being successful. As I just wrote on a new blog, I realize I'm a yo-yo declutterer. I'll clean areas, but they end up reverting to their former messy states! So if you are maintaining order, and clutter-free zones are still free, that qualifies as a big
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon in my book!!

I think I am more likely to stay in the habit of keeping up with an newly ordered area if I don't go rushing off to work on something else, but live with it for a little while, checking up on it regularly, pruning any creeping tendrils of clutter that try to grow back. When a zone feels like it is really under my control, I will feel more confident as I do move on to a new battleground or playing field, or whatever I want to call the next big mess!

Blessed Be, Amanda

I'm not getting far this week. It's been an incredibly long cold week, work has me dragging and we won't even start on the perimenopausal issues, and by the time I get home it's all I can do to walk the dog, cook supper and tidy up the kitchen.
But then again, the kitchen is being tidied on a nightly basis, my bed has been made every day for a week and a half (a record for me, especially since I'm always the first one up)and any of the areas I have touched are looking good...so maybe I'm accomplishing something, huh?
And I am actually knitting in the evenings and making good progress on a pair of socks that are being knitted for a gift.

I am happy to say that making my bed every morning has become a habit for me. I read about it on this team and had rarely made my bed.
It is automatic for me now - every AM when I get up, I make my bed.
AND by bedroom looks so much nicer with a bed that is all made up - even have throw pillows on the bed!!!!
YIKES - I'm on my way to becoming Martha Stewart!!!!

I created a chore chart for son, hubby and I. Son was gungho the first night, hubby was bucking it, and I got a lot done. I discussed it with hubby as far as the values of it and he was mad because he wasn't told about it before starting it. My past experience is if I tell him about it he'll buck it too. But, I put a spin on it as showing our son what teamwork is all about so I think he is on board now. We'll see.

This morning, hubby fed the dog, I made the bed and decluttered the bathroom. I need to add getting ready to son's list of chores as he drags so in the morning. Hopefully all this will help in getting us more organized!

KASEYCOFF, a whole cupboard sounds like plenty to me! My babysteps are being measured in single square foot areas (or portions thereof) at a time, in my little 5-minute organizing sessions. Cleaning entire rooms is far beyond my scope at present. But at my steady tortoise speed, I will get there eventually.

I figure it's not a contest or a race. I try not to envy or begrudge those for whom organizing comes easily or naturally. I applaud their successes, while recognizing we are very different, and it serves me not to make comparisons. I know my clutter is linked to my emotional health and learned behaviors and core beliefs, and to my history of abuse. And so it is for me to declare "I will get better."

I see the work I'm doing and the progress I'm making in strengthening and slimming my physical body, in being more mindful and less emotionally reactive, in healing and nurturing my spirit, to be vitally linked to and enhanced by every effort and baby step I take to create a more ordered and beautiful environment. We often focus so much on what we hate--the clutter and disorganization--that we forget to envision what we yearn for--that feeling of being at home in our home. Imagining the positive goal can be much more energizing and motivating that the prospect of the Work, Pain, & Effort associated with tackling a seemingly insurmountable mountain.

(I really do want to start that blog--but not this morning; gotta go to work!) Blessed Be, Amanda

OMG, I was getting ready to post 'I cleaned one of the kitchen cupboards today that was like Fibber McGee's closet, just stuffed full of outdated mixes and all sorts.' After reading Sheila's tho (!!!) I feel downright lazy, lol...

BUT: I did get the cupboard organized, with a complete wipedown, plus threw out the old stuff. (Not kidding about 'old' - I mean, I don't always believe best-by dates have to be followed to the letter, but the 'newest' item in the cupboard expired March 2007. Gah, I REALLY need to keep after this stuff!)

I also got all the bed linens changed, all the laundry done and put away.
I got all my bills paid and posted at the post office.
Felt good to get all of that done.

I also bought about 6 birthday cards for a party I'm going to next week for all the January birthdays....so I'm all set.

I got all the bedding washed and beds remade. Dinners planned for the week and cleaned kitchen. These things being done always helps to start the week off on a good note.

I'm starting my spring cleaning early.

Today I took everything out of my dysfunctional bedroom closet. I measured for shelves. I had 4 totes stacked at the far wall of the closet. I relentlessly went through two of them and I did not put the other two totes back in the closet. I will go through them tonight. The things I am keeping, I will downsize into 6 smaller totes, all clearly marked and of the same size, that will fit on the shelves that I install later in the week.

If something is too big and in good shape, it goes in the goodwill box. If something is one size too small and I do not absolutely love it, it goes into the goodwill box. If something is two sizes too small, I probably wore it 10 years ago and won't wear it again even if I could fit into it. So it goes into the goodwill box. If something has a stain, a broken zipper, or a missing button that I can't match, it goes into the trash unless it's something I can garden in. Even then...I only need a few sets of garden clothes.
Shoes: I have way too many of these and as I've gotten older, there are many I will never wear again. Goodwill.

Laundry (washed according to color, of course), and dishes. My roommate left the kitchen a mess! I wasn't too happy, but I do love the feeling of accomplishment in going from a flour-covered kitchen to sparkling clean.

I worked on turning my what was intended as my scrapbooking room to be ready for my adult daughter to move in. Mission is to finish it by end of month, when she moves in. Then I need to figure out how and where to organize my scrapping stuff. (It's divided between my living room and bedroom now.)
