Hi. I just found this team today. I especially appreciate Corybelle21's tip about kinect sensor location. I had my sensor mounted on the ledge below my TV, which is in the corner of my small living room. I was constantly losing connection in the EA Sports Active game, and Zumba thought I wasn't doing the moves. All good excuses to resume near couch potato status. Not.

The room really has to be well-lit for the Kinect to work, so I now have 3 halogen-florescent lights on while playing--1 torchiere and 2 sunlight-imitating floor lamps. My TV's top is too small and sloping to mount anything bigger than a wii sensor, so I moved an old stereo speaker into the corner behind my TV and piled a couple of phone books and a large box on top of it. That gave me enough horizontal space to mount the kinect sensor until I can figure out another mounting option (I really don't want to drill into the plaster of this older home since there's no insulation between the plaster and the brick outside wall--maybe I can hang a small platform from the bay window's curtain rod to the right of the TV?). Also, the afternoon sun caused problems today til I pulled down a filtering shade.

That all said, I'm glad that today the Sports Active game only lost my kinect image a couple of times, versus during every pushup and similar low exercise in the prior (frustrating) arrangement. If I mount my TV above my (faux) fireplace, that's the narrow side of the room and I don't think there's enough space/depth even after taking out a coffee table--the 6-8 feet in Microsoft's instructions really should be 8-12 feet IMHO.

Looking forward to working with this team,

Aquajane.

lol, yeah, they put something in the programming of the Kinect called "little brother mode". It also saves me when playing those dance games and the kids are running around. That and when my son trys to dance around my daughter while she plays Kinectimals. Pretty amazing feature.

Managed to stay logged into Zumba, even with a 2yo running around in the background!

Today's Kinect news was pretty huge. Two huge announcements actually. The first one was that Microsoft has registered the domain of kinecthalo.com. Hmmm... one of the Xbox's biggest shooters coming to the Kinect? Seems like we'll be hearing about this soon.

The other big news is that Twisted Pixel games, who made games like Comic Jumper and Splosion man, both downloadable games, is making a new game for the Kinect. Hopefully it will also be a downloadable game, but we'll see. The game announcement is here (have fun!):

I have adventures, game party, deca sports, and Your shape. I really want dance central. I will probably get it for my daughter for her birthday, which is in just a few weeks because she really wants it too. The gym games on Your shape are great for competing and getting the whole family involved. Even the 2 year old likes adventures, her favorite is popping the bubbles.

I am grateful for the kinect tonight. My fitness class was canceled due to the poor weather. I used kinect to get my butt moving. It isn't as good as my fitness class, but it is better than nothing.

I have kinect adventures, game party in motion, kinect sports, and joy ride, but my favorites are the adventures game, and kinect sports! I can get lost playing those games, and though you are having so much fun you don't feel like you are "exercising" I do break a sweat and I do feel sore the next day! I mean I would not say this should be someone's exercise routine, but if you can burn some extra calories and have a lot of fun at the same time just playing around, it is definitely a plus! Over the holidays my kids and I played all these games for hours and we had the best time! The day after Christmas, I was SORE! It is fun to keep up with your achievements, and really fun to "compete" against other family members, and in the process you are being active, burning some calories, and the smile on your face is being recorded by the kinect! BTW, you can upload your pictures and videos to kinectshare.com/ in case that did not work it is kinectshare.com, and once there you can share them on facebook, save them on your computer, and I had some really good ones over the holidays that I saved and had them printed into photos for my photo album of my kids!

I cannot wait to try the voice commands! I hate trying to log myself in after my kids play by using the hands on kinect. I also have not seen the kinect id! Thanks for the tips!

I love that idea. We've been having to move the couch every time we want to play kinect because we don't have enough room. I think I tripod might fix that. Thanks so much!

Here's a tip. We were having a little trouble mounting our kinect sensor. Our t.v. is on a stand in the corner of our living room. If we placed the sensor on the stand in front of the t.v., we didn't quite have enough space to play. We tried the wall mount, but it wouldn't work in the corner because the sensor doesn't swivel horizontally.

So our solution: We bought a cheap tripod and set it up in the triangle of wasted space between our t.v. and the corner of the room. We set it up tall enough that the kinect sensor is above the tv, but a bit behind it. This gave us an extra foot or so of play space and has really worked nicely.

Thanks, I didn't know about the demo games on Adventures. I was thinking about buying some of those games, now I get a chance to check them out first.

USB KEYBOARD AND USB DRIVE

The Xbox has been updated a few times since its launch, 5 years ago. A couple of the updates allows for USB drive support of keyboards and most USB drives.

The keyboard is nice when sending messages to friends that are also playing games, or to friends via MSN messenger, or to post on Facebook or Twitter. I personally use an old USB keyboard from a computer I had. I know other people use a bluetooth USB and use the keyboard wirelessly.

As for the USB drive, this is nice to make back up of your save files or download demos, etc. onto. Most USB drives work, but there are some out there that don't work so well.

I have a tip. I am not sure if it goes here. We used velcro so we could put the kinect on top of our tv. We have one of the floor big screens from Walmart a few years ago and the top is only deep enough for our wii bar. So we put velcro on top of our wii bar and on the bottom of our kinect and mounted them on top of each other. It sees the preschoolers better on top of the tv.

HAVE YOU GONE TO THE LEFT PAGE?

When you are at the main screen for Kinect, have you gone to the left? Sure, there is some cool stuff to the right, but you can also scroll left. That is where you'll see achievements, be able to dress your avatar, and use Kinect ID.

BTW, if you haven't used Kinect ID, I would highly recommend this. Do it in different lighting too. This way, Kinect will start to learn you and can sign you in upon sight and wave.

FREE KINECT GAME DEMOS

A lot people, including myself, haven't noticed the free demos that come with the Kinect Advetures disk.

When you first load the game, DO NOT go to "start". Instead, look at the bottom left corner. You will see the free demos area. There are three demos: Dance Central, Your Shape Fitness Evolved, and Joy Ride.

Currently, you can also download and play the Joy Ride demo via Xbox Marketplace, but not the other three.

Good stuff.

Here is a topic where anyone can post little tips they've discovered, that might help the other people here.
