I am a little to shy and insecure to do group workouts. I do enjoy group runs but I do Insanity by myself because then I can go at my own pace!

I went pretty well. There were only two uber-fit people there. A firefighter who was one of the male trainers, and one of the female trainers (my friend who was the one who told me about the Fit Club). 3 of the women had a few extra pounds to lose, but still looked pretty good, and one who was overweight, but you could tell she'd also lost a lot of weight.

As expected I was (by far) the fattest one there.
BUT I was not the least fit. It was a P90X Core workout. I was able to do everything but two exercises, a few of them I had to modify and some of them I had to slow the tempo down and only did half, but I DID them and I did pretty good.
When one of them invites someone new and the other person says "I can't do THAT!" I want them to say "NIKKI comes. SHE can do it." Because the truth is that if I can do it ANYONE can. I have bad knees. I am asthmatic. I am morbidly obese.

It's a small group and they shut the blinds and turned off the lights. Occasionally one of them holler at the DVD Screen. "Yeah RIGHT!" It was very informal, and NOT a class. So I liked it and I've entered it into my goals here to attend each week.

I don't do well in classes, it's like if I commit to some weekly thing then I'm more likely to just quit going. I don't enjoy it and it feels like something I HAVE to do. I was worried this would feel the same, but it was better.

Add into that that it was NOT a huge group of fitness nuts, but just normal people of all different sizes and levels. Even my uber-fit trainer friend had to modify some of the exercises because of her back.

I used to be a gym rat, but since the economy slump I have had to quit. Now I work out at home and really enjoy it. But I am participating in some races this summer.

Committing to a weekly class makes it easier for me to make it part of my routine - at least until I get bored with it, that is emoticon

That said, I'm not fond of group fitness classes - too much like gym class in school -

Good for you!!

I avoid public workouts like the plague. The only way I can get my runs in is to focus on my music and pretend like I'm invisible.

I did, however, peek in at the Zumba class that is taught in the gym of the middle school near my house. I was expecting everyone to look like the gorgeous women in the commercials, but everyone looked pretty normal. I'm thinking about giving it a try when I get back from Spring Break.

Well tonight I'll be going to our local Free Fit Club. It's an hour long workout, much more intense than anything I've done yet, and I'm not sure how I'll do. I have an intense dislike for people and public places, but I LOVE working out and sweating. I am sort of excited. I've wanted to do this for several months now, but didn't feel fit enough to go. I know I will not be able to keep up, but it's for all levels, and I should be able to adjust it to my liking.

In the past I've avoided any clubs or classes, because when I'm locked into weekly commitments I tend to find excuses more easily.

Are any of you taking fitness classes or workouts? Do you like it?
