I feel the same way Sparking...I had to think about what I'm really here for...if I don't get all the points and talk to everyone every day, then I'm fine with that. For me, it's all about eating right and losing weight...and the extra support from all of you is a bonus!

I do not spin the wheel or track any sparkpoints. Been there and done that (and lost the weight) before. I just feel I need to focus on two things right now...getting AWAY from the computer and moving, and learning to maintain my little goals I'm setting.

I don't want to take my focus from that.

That said I do know I have to be sure to connect with other people here. I'm not good with connecting, and I need to make friends. Also their list of things to do that earn Spark points are pretty brilliant (like signing the pledge to commit and finding pictures and articles to motivate you) so when I have a chance, probably every weekend or so I'll spend some time doing those things and reading some articles. I also built into my plan that if there is inclement weather or I am sick I can use my fitness minutes reading articles and discussing them.

I've done the thing where I joined every group that was interesting, and I'm trying not to do that this time. I find I prefer small groups with a broad focus over large groups with a specific one.

Nothing is "required" - the SparkPoints get you to places where you can find information or tips - motivational readings, goal-setting - and set up SparkStreaks (which feed motivation, because it can be harder to skip an exercise session (for instance) if it means losing a streak).

But this site is about whatever works for you. I've been on my winter vacation this last week so I have had lots of time to be on the site - that will change tomorrow.

There is some research that shows that being involved on the site facilitates people reaching their goals -

but there is more here than any one person could keep up with in a lifetime.

I would encourage you to make and track some small changes in your routine and join one or two of the smaller teams (they are way easier to get to know people on and are more personal than the larger teams) that fit in with your interests or location -

then from there do what works for you.

Where in PA are you? I grew up in Philadelphia and am working on a graduate degree at Indiana U of PA in Indiana - I live in MA (so I guess you could say I went from PA to MA, emoticon

Hello today was my first offical day on my journey to losing weight.

I have been looking around this site and doing things they ask in the spark points. I just don't have the time to do that. Will it hurt if I don't do that?

I mean as long as I log food and exercise I should be okay.

There is just to much here and not enough time in my life to be sitting at the computer all day.

Tips please. I know we all are new but I just need tips for anyone that can help or what you think.
