Yes I do.

There are children at my school that are extremely obese as well as children who are obese or overweight. These children are as young as kindergarteners. It makes me so sad to see these kids who get so winded simply going up a flight of stairs. I teach in an urban setting and many of our kids live in neighborhoods where it is not safe for them to go outside to play. We have a little boy in our class whose mother lets him ride his bike in the house because it is not safe for him to go out. And don't get me started with the school breakfasts and lunches.

Do you think childhood obesity is a serious problem?

Yes
Somewhat
No

Since I now live in the south (US) I see it much more prevalent, I'm afraid. Luckily my school system still has PE, but I know many are not as lucky!

I think my biggest source of stress is managing and balancing it all. Now that I have lost some and discovered I really do like exercising it's hard to find the time on certain days. If I miss one day it seems to turn into two, then three, then more!

Several choices for me, too. If I had to choose just one it would have to be money. My husband is still looking for a job (going on 9 months). We all know that teaching doesn't pay all the bills! So without his income, it's been tough. I just thank God every day for what we have and what is yet to come :)

None of the above lol. I'm student teaching now and applying for jobs and working on my honors project. Those are my biggest stresses! I guess if I had to pick one though it'd be the economy.

I try to keep to 30 minutes a session, no matter what I'm doing. If I'm feeling up to it I will go for 30 minutes in the morning (to help me wake up!) and 30 minutes in the evening (to de-stress me before heading home!).

I think I have got to say it's our Character Parade. We have it around Halloween and the kids get to dress up as their favorite book character. The teachers are supposed to participate too! It's great fun and I love seeing the kids bringing in their favorite book, dressed as their favorite character. We usually carve a pumpkin around that time of year, as well, which is fun since so many of them have never gotten to.

My favorite school day is our "Walk in the Woods". Every fall our 5th graders have a field trip to a local arboretum. They attend 6 different stations which are set up throughout the arboretum and taught by forestry experts. The students gain an appreciation and respect for nature. This is followed up throughout the year with many lessons involving plants, animals, and the need to conserve and take care of our earth.
Walking from station to station builds up a healthy appetite for our sack lunch before we return to school.
This has been a tradition at our school for enough years that many of my students' parents remember their "Walk in the Woods" as fifth graders.

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

I look forward to Field Day because we get to be outside and "play" with the kids for 2 hours. I also love the last day of school because it's a celebration of all that we have learned this year and it leads into a summer full of time to rejuvenate and look forward to the next year.

There are a lot of activities I enjoy, but one that sticks out in my mind is field day! It's always near the end of the year and it's sort of a free-for-all at my school, so I get to just enjoy being with the kids outside! It's fun to see the kids encourage one another and play together!

We've had Winter Break this week. WOOT! Monday and Tuesday were off days, but tomorrow I have a GPS Benchmark Assessment Workshop Training... rather be at school with my babies, though. Thursday our princpal has arranged two hour blocks of time for the teachers to have coverage over their classrooms so that we can work with our grade levels on RTI stuff. PRAISE THE LORD! I like that man better everyday! And Friday, well, I guess it's a 'normal' day.

We had val-o-grams today, little valentine cards. Students bought them last week and filled them out, then they were delivered today with little suckers. It was pretty cute. That's all we do for Valentine's Day though!

Monday we're having our Valentine's Day "activity." I'm such a stick in the mud this year - we're not having a "party." We'll do an art activity and exchange cards.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are regular days.

The kids have an 11:45 dismissal on Friday - teachers have an SIP day. We're going to talk about the implementaiton of our intervention block for next year.
