I got House of Dead Maids from the library, but I really couldn't get into it. To me, the characters weren't interesting and the spooky stuff was just silly. I understand the Bronte connection and it seems like a cool idea, but to me the book just didn't work.
I am looking forward to reading Room, however.

I was going to read this month's book, but after reading a few pages and some reviews, I decided not to purchase the book. I would like to spend my time and money on adult works. I don't feel that for a literary club we should be reading teen-fiction.

The Glass Room was written by Simon Mawer and it looks like a good one!

I put it on hold at the library, since I don't own it. I tried watching the movie awhile back, but it was so very dark and violent I couldn't watch. I thought this book was good; I don't remember reading things quite so frightening when I was young, but maybe I just don't remember. Did you go to her website for the back story? It's very interesting, and the pictures are cool.
I'm picking up The Room from the UW library tonight.
Another book we might want to read sometime is The Glass Room by a man whose name completely escapes me at the moment.

I finished it today. I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying now I have to re-read Wuthering Heights.

I finished House of Dead Maids, it was an interesting book. I will wait to say more once I know others have read it.
Today I am going to the library to pick up more books, including several of Mary Oliver's books.

I've already started with Mary Oliver's poetry. Some of her poems are published online which is a good place to start without buying a book.

I'll take a look at the other suggestions as well. Thanks.

This month you have a choice. You can read the selection I've chosen or choose any book written by one (or more) of the authors listed below.

The BOM for February is The House Of Dead Maids by Clare B. Dunkle
The inside jacket says "A chilling prelude to Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights that blends Yorkshire lore and Bronte family history"

If that doesn't appeal to you, the authors I've selected are:
Mary Oliver (an American poet)
Octavia E. Butler

Please share your choices and thoughts with us.
