Just finished the book last night. I too enjoyed it. Shapiro gave a lot of "food for thought". emoticon

I am finished with Shapiro's book, and I must say that it was enjoyable from an academic perspective. It inspired me to brainstorm a syllabus on food in literature. Fun! I hope you all liked it?

I am about halfway through, and must say that it is really piquing my interest due to Shapiro's neat way of summarizing texts. Mostly, I like the book for its recommendation of works that I've never read!

Because of National Novel Writing Month I am skipping the November book but am looking forward to December.

And the classics ARE on Kindle...so I can read along! I know many people like their books in print (I do, too, when they're really special books to me) but I just read so much an have been amassing piles of paperbacks....it was just not cost effective any more. Especially since most of the time, I do not like reading them more than once!

Definitely more academic/cookbook-y. I'm afraid I am going to have to re-read all the books it discusses...I read chapter 1 and am feeling pulled to re-read Emma and Anna Karenina. That could take a while. Gosh, do we want to re-read some of the classics together? Just an idea...

Sadly, this book is also not on Kindle...so I'll be skipping November. I'll check back next month!

I got my copy from the library today through interlibrary loan. I gave it a glance, and I am excited to see that Shapiro talks about other literature's use of food. This was exciting. Seemingly, the book is not really fiction, but rather more academic/cookbook-y. We'll see!

Our November BOM is Anna Shapiro's *A Feast of Words,* chosen by a member of the team!

I have ordered my copy already, and I'm looking forward to another book that gestures toward food! I hope you've all been enjoying the overarching theme of food in literature. We may try something different in December.

Post your thoughts! Let us all know if you enjoy Shapiro's book!
