Hi, I accept the 10 minute a day for 10 days because I need to get moving. I work out here and there in the evenings but I would love to get back into working out in the mornings also.

I accept the challenge! I love doing those 10 Minute Solutions DVDs. They usually turn into 30 min!

I've been doing something everyday (I'm up to 60 min of low-impact step). Thanks for the challenge!

Hi,
Am trying to get enough motivation to continually do exercise everyday. I pulled out an old vhs of LInda Sansone walk one mile in 15 minutes. It is really fun when I can stay motivated each day! Hope to complete the challenge starting tomorrow.
I too, just returned from Punta Cana and had a fabulous time in the tropics. I really want to reduce about 10 pounds by the middle of July. Is that realistic???

So glad to see that so many of you completed the challenge! : )

We made it home safely from Cancun...and did not contract the swine flu! : )

While I was away, our days were filled with lots of activities, including swimming, walking, ATV rides, and snorkling. I think I did pretty well with my activity level for being on vacation.

Looking forward to the next challenge!

I finished out the challenge with 30 minutes of cardio on the elliptical. Didn't get my strength training in, though I may still get the opportunity.

I changed my eating habits in July of 2007 and am still going strong. I need to be healthy for my family, and I want to be skinnier for me. It's the best of both worlds.

I liked everything about this challenge as it made me accountable to me every day for at least 10 minutes. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks Trisha and keep on keepin on

TADDDAAAA! WE MADE IT! NOT TOO BAD WAS IT!

We're on day 10 of 10, April 24, 2009!

WAYYYYYY TO GOOOO DELAWARE! YOU ALL SOOO ROCK!

Today's SP Excercise of the day is: Tricep Rows with Bands - which honestly is pretty easy and doesn't feel like a workout so if you don't have bands try to get some....if you don't have the extr $$'s to do that - you're gonna laugh - but try this - get panty hose...they're pretty inexpensive and offer the same type of resistence.

Here's the link to the excercise for a demonstration: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=250

So our get up and moving suggestion for today is to make sure you get your stretching excercises in. Stretching may not seem to strenuous, but honestly it helps bring oxygen to your muscles and helps with blood flow. So don't discount it just because you don't break a sweat!

I found a GREAT article about stretching...hmmm a quinky dink. Check it out. https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitnes
s_articles.asp?id=1263

TODAY'S DAILY QUESTION: The question thing didn't seem to fully catch on - which is all good, but just curious to see what everyone liked or disliked about this challenge? This will help your team leaders build from there for our next round of challenges. Do you need more support with excercise or do you need support with your diet programs? Your input is important and most welcomed! After all WE ARE A TEAM! So let's rock on DE!

Well after all that cleaning yesterday I am very sore today and I find the best thing for that is EXERCISE although it took me some time to get motivated and i prefer to work out in late afternoon or before dinner so I have just finished an hour on my gazelle, and earlier I did a 10 minute boot camp with Nicole and I jumped rope for five minutes so I would say I am done for the day but I may take a short but quick walk after dinner and hopefully my son will join me as he could really use the exercise as well.

I walked my daughter to and from school, so met my minimum for today. I have a conference call to type this afternoon, so I don't know if I'll get a chance to do a program on my elliptical or not.

I changed my eating habits in July of 2007 and am still going strong. I need to be healthy for my family, and I want to be skinnier for me. It's the best of both worlds.

looks like I forgot to post my excercise for yesterday, which honestly wasn't that much just some walking due to my hectic schedule at work. Today I woke up nice and early and did a 30 min. of core training....wow it kicked my but! The Personal Fitness game said I only burned 50 calories...I can't see that as possible, but who knows. I am finding the more I use the game the more intense the training sessions are getting. I did the profile check up today and found that I have lost 2 pounds! YAY! and my endurance has picked up so that's a great thing also. So now I'm babling.

To answer my own question - I'll admit I used to look at working out as a chore, but when my 14 year old says to me go mom go you can do this...it really pumps me up. It's even better when I can ACTUALLY do something fun w/ the kids w/out getting winded. Of course I have to laugh when Tim (my 14 yr old) says to his sisters "come on encourage mom. I want her to be around to see our kids grow up". That comment really puts things into perspective! Well anywho - we're all in this together and taking things just one day at a time! So, I'll see you all back here tommorrow for our final check in! REMMEBER TO JUST HAVE FUN TODAY!

Day 9 of 10, April 23, 2009

Wow, girls we sooo rock! Look at us, day 9 and still hanging in there! WAY TO GO TEAM! So how ya doing? Have we lifted your spirit and your metabolisim? I hope so. Well here goes our daily digest - lol.

TODAY'S SP EXCERCISE OF THE DAY IS: Crunches with a twist. Another great excercise that does NOT require excercise equipment.

FOLLOW THIS LINK FOR A DEMONSTRATION: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=4

Excercise suggestions for today - wow - I'm running out of ideas - lol. Hmmmm....remember when we were kids - we were all so unstoppable and we didn't think of "getting in a good workout" we just ran around and had fun no matter what the case was. Well let's try something a bit different today. Let's lift our spirits and just have fun! Don't do a routine workout - like a dvd - or game - dig deep within yourself and ask - What can I do that I really just think is FUN! and do it! Make a commitment to yourself to NOT take life so seriously for 15 minutes and enjoy yourself! See what happens....hopefully you'll walk away with a smile on your face! :)

SO THIS LEADS TO OUR DAILY QUESTION! What makes you happy? - in terms of fitness....are you looking at working out as a chore or a pleasure? Let's try to change our outlook on getting fit. Excercising shouldn't be a "chore" we should throughly enjoy ourselves. Don't just mark this down as ONE MORE thing I have to do today....look at this as...I'm adding ONE MORE year to my life and enjoying myself in the process. HAVE FUN - STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES!

oooookkkkky doooky guys off to work I go...just one more day of our challenge. We'll have to have a meeting of the minds for our next round!

Take Care,
Trisha

Doesn't it feel great! You're getting in some work out time for YOURSELF and cleaning your house all at the same time! WAY TO GO!

lol - I remember the first time I saw the "heavy cleaning" option on the fitness tracker. I had to laugh, but it was quite a motivator! I had spent the whole day steam cleaning my upstairs carpets and had ended up burning more calories than I had eaten for that day! What an awesome feeling! Bable away Cheril that's what we're here for!

Wow I have been doing some serious spring cleaning just in my bedroom for the last 3 and a half hours and when i typed in only 120 minutes it came up as 806 calories burned. Imagine if i put in the whole time. My humble abode might just become spotless with that amount. I am still not done either. I am also doing laundry switching out summer and winter, yard sale and goodwill. Have a good day everyone. Thanks for listening to all my babbling.

GOOOOD MORNING DELAWARE!

HEY WHAT HAPPENED - EVERYONE OK? We're in the home stretch here. Don't give up on me now!

Today, April 22, 2009 is day 8 of 10!

Come on guys we CAN do this! Chins up let's get moving!

Today's SP excercise of the day is: Lying Abduction with Bands

The link for a demonstration is: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=1

Ad some resistance to your daily routine today by adding weights - use your imagination they don't have to be actual weights. Remember to breath, drink lots of water, and stretch before every workout. A good cardio workout should get your heart and blood pumping! It's another rainy day in DE, so think of something creative to do. Hey if you're ambitious enough got outside for a cool spring walk / run in the rain. It can be quite refreshing believe it or not.

DAILY QUESTION: I'm looking for some fresh ideas for our next go roung. Anyone care to chime in?

One thought is ideas for healthy snacking.

SO THAT'S IT FOR TODAY - SEE EVERYONE TOMORROW!

Day 7 of 10, April 21, 2009

Haven't had a chance to get my excercise in for the day, but I AM planning to do a minimum of 20 minutes of cardio tonight. I've done quite a bit of stretching this morning because my shoulders are REALY hurting. I'm not sure what's causing it, hopefully nothing serious.

DAILY QUESTION: So far so good. This challenge and knowing you guys are counting on me has really given me the motivation I needed to get my butt back in gear. I'm ESTATIC to see that this thread has helped sooo many of you as well. SO LET'S KEEP MOVING DELAWRE!

I walked my daughter to school today, while carrying the baby in a mei tai. So, that burned some calories versus driving. It was 20 minutes to and from at a really slow pace, but I'm afraid with how today's looking that'll be the best I can do. Something's better than nothing!

I changed my eating habits in July of 2007 and am still going strong. I need to be healthy for my family, and I want to be skinnier for me. It's the best of both worlds.

Hey guys! So sorry that I haven't logged my info the last couple of days! I've still been getting in my exercise though! We are leaving for Cancun tomorrow and I had a ton of stuff to get done around the house and to prepare for vacation!

I will try to check in when we are gone and I am still committed to completing this challenge. One day we have a catamaran ride with snorkeling scheduled (swimming is great exercise) and another day we have an ATV tour scheduled. The days that I don't plan to get exercise doing our planned activities, I will go to they gym in the morning or do laps in the pool! I'll be thinking of you all! : )

My biggest challenge will be to limit my fruity umbrella drinks! : )

As for my weekend...
4/18 - 30 minutes heavy cleaning (at least), 20 minutes of yardwork

4/19- 20 minutes heavy cleaning, 10 min moving heavy boxes up and down stairs (not to mention running all over town running errands!

4/20 - today I ran errands (which entailed walking), though I never really got my heart rate up (with the exception of the anxiety of racing around packing and stressing about if I remembered everything. I am sure I burned some calories though...

Tomorrow we will be leaving for our trip - walking the airport to get to our gate and then again once we arrive - Not sure about once we check in at the hotel (which will be early afternoon), maybe I'll get some laps in at the pool!

I hope the weather clears up for you guys!

~Tammy

Well my headache finally eased up so i did 45 minutes on gazelle, then had this scary storm that put a tree right through my next door neighbors roof. Poor guy!. Electric came back on at 10:30 and now it's starting to storm AGAIN so i guess i will go rest up for some serious workouts for the next two days. By the way i don't like Peppermint anything but thanks for the thoughtful suggestion

INNAPIN, how do you know how many calories you burnt on your elliptical? Mine shows calories and fat, but I don't go by that because I read that they're calibrated for a 150-pound man or something like that. I'd love to get credit for what the machine says I've burnt, 430-ish, but I don't think that's right. How do you gauge calories burnt? SP tells me 253, I think.

ETA: This is Stacy0402 typing. I was logged in under my husband's username from entering tonight's supper for him. Whoops!

Hi Team,

I started a new exercise class tonight ... the last one finished a week ago. So an hour of pretty calesthenics and weights. (As luck would have it, there were some dumbell flys included emoticon )

When it's dreary like this, I like putting on some dance music.

Stacy! Look at the bright side, you're doing something positive. Take baby steps. Maybe we'll do a recap for our eating habbits when the next challenge comes around. Just remember this...the weekend is over, so you goofed, doesn't mean you can't get right back up there and start again! You'll get there! Hang in there. Great going for your get up and moving this rainy day!

It helped me to move a bit on my 'off' days, too. I think the mere 10 minutes was the motivator as my weekends are usually busy with the husband home and stuff.

I changed my eating habits in July of 2007 and am still going strong. I need to be healthy for my family, and I want to be skinnier for me. It's the best of both worlds.

I did my strength training on the Bowflex (probably around 15 minutes but didn't time it). I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, bumping the incline from 15 degrees to 20 degrees.

I'm at home today. I'm afraid the weather has made me tired and if it wasn't for me being irritated with myself about this past week's eating habits, I probably would've napped instead of working out.

Day 6 of 10, April 20, 2009

WOW LOOK AT YOU GO DELAWARE! We're over the half-way hump! Let's keep up the momentum on this rainy day and get moving.

Today, Monday, is a dreary day, but don't let the clouds in the sky cloud your mind! Let's find something creative to do today. I'm going to start today with our daily question.

DAILY QUESTION:
Are you at work or home today? What can you do to help you get up and get moving even though it's dreary? I know that we somewhat touched base on this last week, but let's give each other a PICK ME up!

TODAY'S DAILY SP EXCERCISE - Dumbbell Flys - don't have dumbbells? Fill two water bottles with sand or use two cans of canned vegtables.

Visit this link for a demonstration: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=155

TODAY'S EXCERCISE: If you're at work try standing up to do your desk work for a minimum of 10 minutes...Did you know that you still burn calories while standing! Need another idea - take the stairs instead of the elevator - even though its raining park the car further out to walk a little bit - another suggestion is to get up from your desks frequently.

If you're home do some excercises while cleaning. You can do lunges while vacuming and stair climbing while getting the kids dirty clothes.

Use your imaginations and get moving! Have fun today guys....gotta do so ttfn!

Trisha

Jumped on the trampoline with the kids for 20-25 minutes. Too bad I'm overeating to negate any positive effects from the exercise.

I managed to get a walk in today. Not exactly what I wanted to do, but more than I normally do on the weekends, so all is good.

Well, tried the 10 minute athletic cardio and the 10 minute dance cardio on Petra's Cardio for Beginners. This will take some getting used to as this woman moves pretty fast and there are really no tutorials so I will have to try these workouts at least 10 times before I can get it down enough to keep up or hope to. There are also two 20 minute workouts as well, one athletic and one dance then a five minute stretch at the end. I can certainly see how one's heartrate will elevate at least someone fairly new to cardio like this, but i am looking forward to the challenge and will continue to update my opinion on this video as I master or attempt to master these workouts.

Took a 2 and 1/2 mile walk with my son. He did great, I am sooooo proud of him. When we got home we ate lunch and I sat down to watch a program but he got up to play kickball with his friends. Wish i still had that kind of energy. I am not done yet however. As I am cooking my meals for the weekend to pack for lunch, I will be checking a new DVD I just rec'd in the mail. Cardio for beginners with Petra Kolber. Will let you know how it is. I did go a bit overboard on some wings for dinner last night but all in all did pretty good for a night out. I am working tomorrow so not sure what I will do for Earth Day, except I do have those bulbs I can replace while my oldest son is here to get up on the ladder for me. HMMMMMM!!! Sounds like a plan! Have a great day everyone and LET'S KEEP MOVIN'!!!

Day 4 of 10 - Saturday, April 18, 2009

30 minutes of basketball with my boys. (I lost - haha - it was still fun) HOPEFULLY a few hours at the beach at Cape Henlopen park just walking. Will round up our day. As far as calories burned, I'm not sure. Hopefully weight will be lost and valuable family memories will be gained!

Saturday's question - My favorite outdoor activity is riding bikes with my kids - even though I usually can't keep up.

Day 5 of 10 PLAN! - 1/2 way mark!, Sunday, April 19, 2009.

Preparing my flower beds for the summer and planting a veggy garden with my Dad. Since my mom passed away last year we're trying to keep him busy - I'm hoping he can teach me a thing or two about gardening since I usually have a brown thumb. I'm antcipating this will take all day so I have NO idea what to put down as far as time for this one.

Sunday's question: We have replaced all of our incadecent bulbs with energy efficient bulbs, we recycle, I'm starting a compost pile this weekend, and a home grown vegy garden. We have no technology days - good for the enviroment and our sanity. My 14 year old son was on the forefront of implementing a school wide recycling program at Milford Middle - which from what I understand, has now spread to the other schools in the district (soo proud of him for that). We pull together every weekend to collect recyclables from neighbors and our home and drop them off at the recycling center....so I guess you could consider that to be car pooling to. As far as excercise is concerned...I think the gardening would fall into that category. Biking to events instead of going by car could be another idea. And pulling and tugging on those recyclables could be considered a strength training excercise....hmmm let's think creatively on this one. HAHA...that's all I can think of right now.

I hope you guys have a great weekend! See you on Monday! Keep up the good work!

Good Afternoon! Today is day 4 of our 10 day challenge! We're almost half way there! Great to see everyone is doing such a great job!

Soooo for this beautiful afternoon on April 18, 2009 - Earth Day (?) Let's be creative!

This is my families "no technology" weekend so I'm going to try to be brief as this will probably be the only time I get online this weekend...also I probably won't post anything for tommorrow - just a heads up!

TODAY'S SP excercise of the day is: Standing Chest Flys on a cable cross machine...see if you can be creative and do it w/out the machine.

The link to this is excercise and demonstration is: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=242

THIS WEEKEND'S CHALLENGE:

Saturday: Pick an aerobic / cardio outdoor activity to do for a minimum of 10 minutes each day. Some suggestions - walking, riding your bike, jump roping, playing ball with the kids, running - etc - use your imagination.

Sunday: Pick an earth friendly activity that incorporates excercise, such as planting flowers (gardening), mowing your grass with green fuel or a mower that doesn't use the traditional mower engine (like those used in the 50's haha - can you believe I actually do have one of them) - go through your house and change all the lightbulbs to earth friendly bulbs - which in some cases could involve stretching activities (save money and save the planet - trust me these things DO work - we did that last year and have saved ALOT of money off of our power bill) - start compost pile - pull weeds - use your imagination and be creative. It's amazing how you can find excercise activities in small everyday events....just take a few minutes to think about it. Don't let the couch be your crutch!

THIS WEEKEND'S DAILY QUESTIONS:

Saturday: What's your favorite outdoor family activity?

Sunday: Let's keep it green for Earth day. What do you and your family do to help the enviroment? Do any of those things incorporate physical activity?

OK OK SO THAT'S IT FOR THE WEEKEND! SEE YOU ALL BACK HERE BRIGHT AND EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING! REMEMBER TO KEEP MOVING THIS WEEKEND AND HAVE FUN WHILE YOUR DOING IT! EXCERCISE DOESN'T HAVE TO FEEL LIKE WORK - IT'S ALL IN YOUR OUTLOOK!

I took two of my daughters and the dogs on a walk this beautiful evening. Thirty minutes of a quasi-brisk walk (versus the near still pace of yesterday).

I changed my eating habits in July of 2007 and am still going strong. I need to be healthy for my family, and I want to be skinnier for me. It's the best of both worlds.

More mulching in the yard today and 20 min weight training.

For rainy day exercise I like to:
climb up and down the steps during the commericals on eve TV or use the treadmill.

I do go to exercise class 2xs a week also, so that helps.

For just occupying time on rainy days ... I love to read.

Today I have done 20 minutes of strength tr. using ball and 3 lb dumbbells. I did 30 min. of Zumba cardio and at 3 pm I am taking my son bowling and will watch while I sit there and talk to friend for an hour or so, then going to dinner for a quick bite, then will come home and probably have to walk w/ Leslie or Gazelle for an hour to work something off I am sure. Great Job everyone, lets keep it up!!
On rainy days I work out just the same. Sometimes my son and I go out and play in it when it's warm

Day 3 of 10, April 17, 2009

15 minutes of upper body strength training.

When it's rainy outside, I turn up the music and dance to my heart's content with my kids. They think I'm nuts, but I get in a good work out and get to spend some quality time with my babies, now ages 14, 12, 11, and 5! Now don't get me wrong rain DOES make me sleepy so I find it helpful to make a point to get up and keep moving. Even if it's just washing the dishes....your still burning calories when your standing!

Good Morning Team! Great to see everyone is doing SOOOO great with this challenge! WAY TO GO DELAWARE! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Today is day 3 of 10, April 17, 2009

Today's daily SP excercise is Child's Pose

Visit this link for a demonstration: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exerci
ses.asp?exercise=303

Today try to do a minimum 10 minutes strength training! Add a little intesity by using 1 to 2 pound weights while you walk or work out. What do you use if you don't have weights? Well, as off the wall as this may sounds, do you have canned vegatable? Use two cans of veggies or a DIET soda! That's just enough resistance to help give you a lift.

DAILY QUESTION:

THANK YOU to everyone who answered yesterdays question. It's nice to see what we have to work with. Great to see some staples around, like hand weights, Jumping Ropes, and Hula Hoops (I used to love them as a kid :) ). We'll see what we can do to incorporate them in somehow.

So here goes with today's question.

What do you do to occupy your time on a rainy day? Since I saw that a few of you were struggling on our dreary days this week, let's see what triggers you to slack back on those days? There's always something we can do to get our bodies up and moving. Clean the house, clean out a closet - just a few suggestions. Can you offer some more to help your fellow SPr's?

HEY DID YOU KNOW THAT WORKING OUT FOR JUST 10 MINUTES A DAY CAN HELP BOOST YOUR MOOD FOR THE DAY! TRY WORKING OUT IN THE AM BEFORE YOU START YOUR DAY AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

I walked my doggie for a half hour this morning, did some weights for my arms, did some abs, and will be mowing my lawn later, push-mowing, which is equivalent to about 4 1/2 miles of walking. So glad it is sunny outside!!! emoticon
