Thanks to IBCC, I had a mammogram, the first in about 7 years. They found some calcification and made sure I had a biopsy. The biopsy showed some atypical hyperplasia cells, which moderately increases breast cancer risk and which I had removed on Wednesday. The pathology report after surgery just came back this morning, and I am cancer free!

What is the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program?

The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program offers free mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams and Pap tests to eligible women. Even if a woman has already been diagnosed with cancer, she may receive free treatment if she qualifies. Since the program was launched in Illinois in 1995, more than 102,000 women have been screened for breast and cervical cancers.

Check with your Health Department for information in your county. I just had a cervical cancer exam and am having a mammogram tomorrow, after not having either since I lost health insurance in 2005. This is a great program.

The Illinois WiseWoman program is a project for women ages 40 to 64 who are eligible for the Illinois Breast and Cervical cancer Screening Program. It offers:

Cholesterol testing
Diabetes testing
Blood Pressure screening
