Sounds great! I love a lot of soups and add different veggies with a chicken stock.

I also like to stir fry and add whatever I have to make it tasty.

I love oatmeal too and add apples or bananas with some dark chocolate and cinnamon.

I tend to do the fluid tracking too... Mediterranean eating can be so delish!

Right, Elseebee. It would simply take too long to enter exactly whatever I put into every meal into a recipe that I can add. If it's something I make weekly, sure, I'll make that. But I like variety in my meals too much, so I don't really have repeat meals.

It's been a bit of an eye opener for me to track my food on here - I've realized I need to eat more protein, for instance. So the tracker is certainly good in that regard. I'll have to work on treating it as a general tool.

Thanks for the insight!

I think LEESAAB and I are both talking about the fact that we mostly cook "from scratch" and don't make the same thing very often. I have entered my real recipes that I use, but I don't cook very often from a recipe.

Isn't there a way you can add your "recipe" and save it as a favorite under the tracker? It has been a while since I've used the tracker, but should start doing it so I can lose the weight.

I do exactly the same thing! What about when you eat out? I live in a very rural area where chain restaurants (other than fast food, which I avoid) simply do not exist.(And that seems to be the most coomon items in the SP food tracker.) So when I eat at my local places, I just "estimate" how they made the food. E.g., whole wheat tortilla wrap, 2 slices turkey, half cup salad, 1 tbsp vinaigrette. I feel the tracker is a good tool, but just that- a tool. It gives you some idea about how much you are consuming and does a good job of showing how those calories are distributed (carbs, fat, etc.) Also, I try to eat "clean" and organic which means I keep processed and prepared foods to a minimum. So I just enter the ingredients that I can and know that the key is to get out and exercise to take care of the foods that I do eat.

I'm curious about how other people track their food intake here when they don't follow a recipe while cooking. I almost never follow a recipe to the letter (ingredient substitutions, more veggies, leaving things out, etc.) and short of creating recipes for every single thing I cook - which is often - I'm stuck entering individual ingredients in the food tracker. Which gets old very quickly and is NOT something that I'll be able to do as it just takes to darn long. How do other people get around this? My current solution is to only enter the major calorie sources.

For example, for breakfast this morning I sauteed about a 1/4 cup sliced onion, a few tablespoons of leftover shredded carrot and maybe a tablespoon or two of leftover diced tomato in approx. 1 tsp olive oil, then scrambled an egg plus an egg white with them.

I just added the olive oil, egg, and egg white to my breakfast tracker. It's not like I'm likely to make this again, so I don't want to create a recipe.

What do others do?
