I just saw these posts about olive oil. I have a pretty severe coronary artery disease, and must keep saturated fat to a miniscule amount. Olive oil is 13% saturated. For me, canola oil is a better choice. Glenn

Olive oil has a low smoking point and should never be used for cooking. Peanut oil is a healthy oil for cooking. Olive oil must say extra virgin, imported from Greece or Italy. Greece is better, be in a green bottle to be real Olive Oil, this is the law, if it is in a clear bottle, even if not labelled it is made with 1-2 other vegetable oils added, all vegetable oils are toxic including canola oil. Please use any others including grapeseed oil,which is cheap or any nut oil,both have a high smoke point so can be used for cooking, coconut oil also has a high smoke point for cooking!

I am on the summer challenge now. I have pleurisy, 3 types of anemia from Iron,folic acid,other vitamins not working,chronic pneumonia,chronic kidney disease,1 partially collapsed lung, low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 55 years old. I had cervical cancer 6 years ago, no signs last 3 years as well.

CINDYCHARLENE, From everything I have been reading now about the Mediterranean Diet, yes olives are good for us. So if you cannot have olive oil it would be good to eat olives plus walnuts. Olives are suppose to be a very healthy food.

Having no gall bladder and prone to bile duct stones, oils gives me a stomach ache. Would it be just as helpul if I ate olives plus walnuts?

I thought we should be eating beans or legumes daily and not so much fish or poultry.

I am also allergic to fish and people look at me when I say that so I am glad I am not the only one who is allergic to fish. I get extremely sick--even deathly sick if I eat fish. Of course, I do not. So should I be eating more olives?

I do eat some olives since I am allergic to fish but the amount is 20 to reap any benefits. I love whole grain bread with into a dip with olive oil and herbs. I always cook veggies with olive oil but I read that the benefits diminish with heat. I sometimes add the oil cold to salad or pasta. I can't say I get the 3 TBS since it is a lot of calories. I did just buy some cold pressed at buy one get one free. emoticon
