I agree that calories are important to consider. What is more important is to find out what triggers eating the wrong foods or overindulging. Bob Greene has a great book that tells about what to figure out about yourself before beginning any diet. There are some foods I will not ever avoid. I have tried. Working out helps me focus on what I am eating better. What will work is eating more vegetables!! I have a lot at lunch and less breads.

I also did the South Beach Diet and found it doesn't work for me. I found the Sonoma Diet which is based on the Mediterranean Diet guidelines does work. I also started tracking my food here at Spark. They tell you with the South Beach Diet that calories aren't an issue, but they are. I was shocked at how much I was really eating. And, I am convinced that along with watching your calories, you need to eat a healthy balanced diet that doesn't cut out foods.

Welcome! Take it one step at a time when changing over to TMW. I know I need to get back at it and giving up most meat is hard for me. I am not a fish eater and since red meat is limited on TMW is hard for me. I do like fruit and veggies and need to work in more grains.

Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to tell you a little about my dieting history and see where I go from here. So, I am 5' 1" and started South Beach diet 3 years ago and have now gained another 20 lbs. I have restarted the South Beach Diet at least ten times and it just doesn't work for me. Years ago I did Atkins and the pounds melted away however I am very very concerned about eating all the saturated fat. I have been tracking on Sparkpeople and decided I want to try the Mediterranean diet. I'm a bit nervous coming from quite a few years of low carbing but I really am not a big meat eater so I'm thinking this may work for me. I just ordered Mediterranean diet for dummies and complete idiots guide to Mediterranean diet. Those books will come in a week or so. So in the meantime what do i eat?? lol Is there a specific Mediterranean diet website I can go to? I want to lose 40lbs! Thank you!!! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!!
