I do that, too! I use the Spark Nutrition plan and substitute items to make it more Mediterranean. It's pretty easy to incorporate Mediterranean Way into any plan.

Welcome Winky_eye! I'm loving your name!

I think the SP plan is pretty close to the Mediterranean pyramid. Spark People has some articles praising the Mediterranean way of eating so they recognise this is a healthy way to go food wise. I follow the SP plan as well but make a few changes here and there to med it up a bit. It is easy to sub foods when needed. For example, the meal plan I use is primarily vegetarian. I sub in fish a couple of times a week for other protein (usually cheese) and always use olive oil.

I guess it just feels like a diet at first because for me, I have been eating stuff I never heard of before with combinations I never imagined. But your right it is a lifestyle change, even though these first few days have seemed so drastic. I lost 5 pounds since Monday, and I am also getting the family involved in the changes as well. I have tons more energy and a new attitude. Glad this is working for you as well. Maybe a fewe more weeks I will be used to the changes and know what I am doing. LOL right now I am on here all the time to see whats next. Thanks

Welcome!! I'm so glad you found us! Yes, it does seem that Spark's nutrition is a lot like the Mediterranean Diet. Although the word 'Diet' is misleading because it is more a way of life, just as Spark's nutrition is, too.

It is hard not to become healthier eating this way. More whole foods, more Omega-3's and less red meat. Nothing is off limits. Some foods less frequently, some foods more often, and always remember portion control.

My doctor turned me on to eating this healthy way because I was diagnosed with high cholesterol and I wanted to try and get the numbers down without taking medication. He gave me 3 months to try lowering my cholesterol numbers using just diet and exercise, and it has been working!!

Hmm. It's inevitable! Healthier lifestyle is on the horizon!

I am a newbie, and I read all the posts about this Mediterranean Diet and I like it so much because it is true. Everything you read shows that to be consistant with these foods will lead to healthy lifestyle. One question is that I am following my nutrition plan (somewhat except for today) and it seems like it has all of this going already, so is Spark already designed to give a Mediterranean Diet from the start? I have lost 5 pounds in 4 days and I feel good. My plan has not had any meat in it for a week. Currently I am tracking my nutrition and posting a blog a day to keep a diary of my strengths and weakness'.
