Sandy, I was having problems with my ankle and the Dr thought it was my balance so had me stand with one foot on each scale. Now the weight on each scale should be the same or close to it. Mine were way different, The Dr told me I could do PT or get a WIFIT and do the balance exercises and so if that worked. The first time I got on the wii it told me my weight was 75% on my left foot and 25 on my right. The lady in the wii fit made comments about me playing around and how I should stand upright, I tried the balance exercises and she didn't get nicer. Just kept telling my no one could be that bad and I wasn't doing it right, But I just talked back to her and kept on. Now my balance is 51%.49%.

I forgot to mention that I do have a stationary bicycle & I do use it. Not so much right now because of the pain it causes. But slowly, I will get back to it.

I also have a number of Tai Chi & Yoga videos that I really like. I have one QuiGong video that I also like.

My favorite for indoors is my Wii Fit; however, I can't use it right now because of the balance issues. I'm thinking about starting the stepper exercise on it, but my main caregiver right now would like me to wait until I see the surgeon again. Since that's less than two weeks away, I will honor that request.

Also looking forward to getting back to the Y & Silver Sneaker classes but that will still be awhile.

I am a fair weather walker, but often prevented from it by my IBS. I would like to get out more with Cassie since she loves going for walks.

I'm a fair weather walker, but I am kind of a fanatic about getting at least a mile a day, so I have been known to walk in less than perfect conditions, but not often. If I can't get it outside I do extra time on the step glider. My bike seems to be trapped in the basement. If I can coax him out this year, I'll give him a ride or two. We'll see.

I swim and do Tai Chi. Needless to say I can swim any time of the year. I live in a very hot climate.Right now I do Tai Chi indoors when it rains and outdoors preferably in my yard or at the park. I’m looking for a Tai Chi center near me. So far no luck, so I rely on my videos. I also love to walk. I’m walking more and more so I can go hiking on the mountains. Not climbing, just walking up hills. Where I live, we have mountains everywhere. I’m so looking forward to getting stronger. I’m going to start of slow. Like any exercise, it takes perseverance and patience.

Tai Chi for Health by Dr Paul Lam has a fabulous site for all levels. He even has Tai Chi for Arthritis and other health conditions. He has inexpensive online lessons you can buy every 2 months. It includes a forum where you can talk to others and ask questions. I have emailed Dr Lam. He is exceptionally busy, but still had time to personally respond to me. He is a rheumatologist and an exceptional man. I highly recommend checking his You Tube videos and site out.

I have practiced Tai Chi for a few years. The health benefits are enormous. My balance, strength and flexibility improved within 6 months. For some it may take longer or shorter. I used to have a lot of pain with it, but I kept going to classes and it too disappeared. It’s not a miracle cure. It’s just a very healthy gentle way of exercising. Now I am learning Tai Chi for combat. Yes, Tai Chi is the mother of all martial arts. Every martial art has been born from it history of Tai Chi is incredibly interesting.if you are interested in learning more about learning Tai Chi feel free to ask here or message me. I’ll be happy to help. emoticon

Just a thought about cycling. If you can, you can get a floor bicycle stand, that is if you have a bike it is well worth it. They cost about $50, used less. Or you can buy a bicycle exercise machine. For either one you don’t need good balance. It’s excellent exercise and you can pedal at your own pace

Well that’s it for me!

I walk outside, rain if it is not hard is OK, even good when it is hot, during the summer I walk early or late. The temp doesn't bother me as much as the bright sun. As for cold, in TX that never bothered me. I haven't spent a winter in north AR yet.

I do walk outside. I wish I could ride a bicycle but with my balance, it just doesn't seem like a good idea. Then there is the problem of getting it out of the basement & then back in.I really would like to find an outdoors yoga class somewhere close by.

Do you usually walk, run, bike ride, etc. outside? If so, do you still do it during bad weather like rain, snow & excessively hot or cold temps?
