Never heard of a day for the old stuff but I too love MOST of it...I have just a couple of mementos from my Dad and also from my Mom. These are precious to me. So little because others in their family (Aunts, Uncles etc) took the rest...

But, from my DH's family, he the only child with his Mother an only child I have a treasure load... Yes, the old wine glasses, and complete set of Wedgwood dinnerware, but what to do with them???

I also have a set of sterling silverware from about 4 of his grand mom and aunts; lovely stuff I use...But, of the 400 items that we had an estimator evaluate; most of it is antique but not worth much except for the thoughts and dreams as I live in the past as I'm reliving this genealogy of other years. I never knew these women who treasured these items enough to purchase them, but sure would liked to visit with them for a few minutes of the past...

Now my personal collection of old stuff... I work hard at limiting what I personally need to keep ...

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of May 2019. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2019 to be back to below 155.

It is so hard to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. I am working on a 365 plan that means everyday I must clear out something to make my life less cluttered.

I hadn't heard about National Old Stuff Day. I have been slowly going through stuff over the past 10 years and donating it to GoodWill. I recently divorced and really hard to decide what to keep or toss, so I'm not carting it around. It was a job! Only filled one storage unit! emoticon emoticon emoticon
I have kept some nice mementos from older family members.

I hadn't heard of it but I love the idea. Old habits are the best to break.

Huh. I've never heard of National Old Stuff Day.

I like old stuff. I'm used to seeing old things around my house. I have an old victrola, two old washstands, my grandma's sewing table (I don't mean a machine; it's a cute little table with various size drawers and rounded ends that have lids on top to flip open. Her step-father made it for her upon her marriage, out of old crates. So 1928 ish). I also have a great-aunt's sewing machine table, and an old dish display cabinet. Then I've got some old Good Housekeeping recipe books that belonged to my grandma- would love to find a way to display that. Also my mom's English book, my grandma's account journal of family purchases, births etc. I have an old trunk displayed on an old braided rug with old lace draped over the trunk.
I just love old stuff. So homey. Plastic stuff is NOT homey to me.

Good to see you back on here, Sandy. Sorry about your health issue.

We know at some point we will be moving from where we currently live. I am slowly getting rid of things but need to kick it into high gear and get serious about decluttering and down sizing our stuff.

It's so good to have you back Sandy~

Since January, I've been decluttering and donating most of it. I do like to switch things up often; including what the family does on holidays. It was a joke that our tradition was to go somewhere different every Thanksgiving.

However, with losing weight, I'm finding my body does better if I eat the same foods all the time, which is extremely boring to me.

I do try to do this, or at least I did & plan to get back to it as soon as I am physically able. I have done some de-cluttering & plan to do a lot more of it. I like to take different routes to & from local places that I'm familiar with. SAlso like to change up routes when walking.

Always observed on March 2nd, National Old Stuff Day is a day to give notice to all that old stuff and try something new. Well, maybe not ALL the old stuff, but some of it. Itís a day to break out of the old routines and try something new.

What do you think of this idea? Do you ever do this just because? Would you?
