I have been to the recommended nutritionists and they always recommend more carbs. Last one told me to keep snack cans of fruit in my truck to eat during the day. I just can't see that when my BG is already high. My doctor recommends a modified Adkins diet. Actually, I think it is closer to a "grain brain" diet -- I can have fruits, vegetables, meat, etc., but not supposed to have grains unless once in a while whole grains. I can't stand whole wheat though, because it is just too heavy for me.

I have a friend who has had a lot of problems throughout her life and no doctor has been able to help her. She recently had an auto-immune problem and had to take prednisone for it. She is now on something called an auto-immune anti-inflammation diet. She can hardly eat anything, but it has been helping her. She cannot have beef, but can have pork, fish and chicken. Mostly she has chicken wings. She can't have most of the spices, grains, nuts, legumes, half the vegetables and fruits that are out there. It's worse than IBS.

MaryAlice, I hope that you can get everything to work for you, including whatever it takes for the egg whites and cheese. Can you get the vegan cheese? I'm not sure what they do for egg whites.

Jackie, I hope that your problem in the mornings can be resolved. I just went to the doctor because I have had swollen feet and ankles for a couple weeks. She thinks part of it is that my ligaments aren't holding my ankles well anymore and are slightly spraining them (don't really understand that). So she said to balance on one leg for a while, then the other to strengthen the ligaments. I am also going to try some lemongrass essential oil since I once read that is supposed to help strengthen ligaments. It helped my dog that had a torn ACL. Of course, since I got home I realized my ankles are stronger than they were when I was younger.

Hm.
Well...I have to say that HEALTH is not my god. I'm too busy LIVING to analyze the details, I guess. My mind is on my husband, children and household, on homeschooling and of course, God. So I'm not too focused on the HEALTH details. I'm just aiming for general good health-cutting back the junk, increasing the good stuff.

I HAVE noticed, however, that my joints hurt more when I am drinking pop. I've tested it quite a number of times, and sure enough, if I drink pop daily, my joints hurt daily.

Right now, for a bout 3 weeks, I've just been abstaining from pop M-F and drinking diet Dr. Pop on the weekend and maybe one regular. My joints haven't been bad since I began doing that.
Usually, my ankles are real stiff when I start walking, but not anymore.
And I find that going 5 days without, is not hard on me. I also find that DRINKING it, is not as big a deal as it used to be.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Mary Alice, sorry for your misfortune. There's certainly a lot lurking in the woods aside from the big bad wolf. I've never pursued it, but I think I was misdiagnosed and never treated for Lyme Disease years ago. Another tick-borne disease. There's a new plant now to worry about that was imported from Europe called Hogweed that looks a little bit like Queen Anne's Lace and it can kill you.

MaryAlice, I am so sorry you're having to deal with all of that. I have a friend who has been dealing with some "mystery" illness and she's only getting worse. I will have to share this information with her so she can test if she gets better without animal proteins.

Jackie, I hope you're able to steady yourself and find a way to get you strength when you first stand up.

I don't have any food restrictions. Thank Goodness.. However as I age I eat less at the table and nibble in between. Bad Habit I must control small snacks and not nibble it certainly would help me lose the 20 pounds which is my goal. ...

Also, as I age I often am unsteady as I stand up to walk. I walk ok but the first few steps are unsteady. Exercise has not corrected it and I've not consulted a Dr. for it but think I will to be sure I'm not missing something. .

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Animal products. It use to be that people looked at stance when I told them animal products make me double over in pain. Now they say that there are ticks that after they bite you, you can't eat animal products. For me it started with pork then milk, beef, chicken now it is eggs and cheese. With pork and beef it is to the point that I can't eat corn bread because most boxed mixes are made with animal fats. So many things processed foods have animal fats.

What's wrong with egg whites? .... or low-fat cheese, for that matter?

Darlene, have you tried increasing healthy fats and keeping carbs to healthy carbs, (as I'm guessing you already try to stay away from simple carbs).

Has your doctor recommended a nutritionist to help with the diabetes?

I keep trying to do moderation, especially in sweets since I have diabetes, but can't seem to leave them alone. I am trying to increase my exercise. I am looking at different places that I can do cardio dance or senior yoga.

Not sure what else I can do. Nothing seems to be working. Calories are usually too low unless I eat the carbs, but that increases BG. And no matter what I don't lose any weight.

For me it is moderation in all things. I am currently upping my exercise and lowering my calorie intake. I'm on a fairly strict regimen because of health issues but it is easy to slip off the wagon. Most of the time I feel great which aint bad for a 70 year old over weight woman with diabetes.

I love exercise but hate dieting. LOL

MaryAlice, I was vegan for a time. I cannot consume dairy and started cutting out meats, but not to the extent you need to.

Is it the animal protein, such as eggs as well, that you need to omit?

I find it interesting that your mind goes straight to the devil David. emoticon

My question was more in line with most of our good health is in our own hands; eating right and avoiding what we know is wrong for our bodies. Staying active. Having positive attitudes. Fellowshiping with our family and friends.

And if you're a believer, fasting and praying to Jesus.

No way shape or form was I thinking about a deal with the devil. emoticon

p.s. I would be scared of perfect. no one is perfect.

So you make this deal with the Devil for perfect health the rest of your life and the next day he has you run over by a bus? I'll just run with what I got, thanks.
