Yes, I've heard it, in just the last 6 months or so.
My thoughts? Go old-fashioned.
People had to WORK to make ends meet, and work ACTIVELY. Then when they were exhausted they sat and took a break or a nap, then got back to work, til sundown. Because they were whooped, they slept deep and hard.
Perfect fitness plan:
1. They were MOVING.
2. Their activities changed and kept their bodies surprised and out of a rut.
3. They had healing moments of rest, when their muscles were built.
4. They had good REM sleep, which helps to lose weight.

We are a ridiculous people to think we can sit all day and go all night, and STILL have results. It is ridiculous that we 'need' a gym, when we can get out there and DO the work that naturally surrounds us.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Life.
It's Worth Living.
It's Worth Giving.
Choose Life.

I heard it was every hour, but now it's being said every 20-30 minutes.

No, but it does make sense.

I think comparing sitting to smoking is that both are bad for your health.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

There is a lot of information on this on the web as it's a hot topic right now. You've got to hit a balance because too much sitting *or* too much standing is a detriment to good health. Getting up and moving at least once an hour is what's recommended, even if you do exercise at some time during the day. It's always something.....

Darlene, I hadn't heard THAT.

Jackie, I just heard it too.

I think comparing sitting to smoking is like comparing apples and oranges.

I have heard of it. Now they are saying that even if you are exercising a lot that sitting is bad for you.

Boy that really hits home. Our society has become so inactive which is increasing our health problems.

First I've heard of it, but you have to sit sometimes, you never have to smoke.

I'm out of the loop - never heard of it, but do think that inactivity, one of which is sitting, is not good for our health...for that reason I spend 10 minutes up and active every hour - if I'm on the computer an hour...My fitbit usually reminds me at 10 minutes to the hour and I usually get up and do something...often I'll just do some line dancing which I call exercise and enjoy.

I never sit in front of the TV without doing something else and usually active...

Have you heard the term, "sitting is the new smoking" and what are your thoughts?
