And therein lies the rub, for me. I don't think anything about these online hustlers has ever made me angrier than when Family Tree Maker solicited those back many years ago and did just what you say. I think it was a DOS program at the time in one of its very early releases and they made it sound like you were doing a great service to humanity if you contributed. Turns out we contributed to lining someone else's pockets.

Have any of you contributed your trees to online sites like Wikitree, family search, Ancestry? I have, to all these and others. I started with a site where I uploaded all sorts of information freely, and then they turned around and charged people to access it.

Darlene, If I were your pastor, I'd fight that ticket. If there are speed limit signs posted he was obeying the law. Otherwise, the city needs to remove the signs.

Susan, funny you mention people driving down the wrong side of the road. I've seen that more times than I care to. And people in Cali drive like the devil is after them. (and he just may be)

Isn't that funny?

But you know, traffic on the roads PROVES that people can get along just fine. You don't see people (often, anyway, lol) going out of their lanes or in opposite directions. It PROVES we've got common sense. Now we all need to USE it in other areas of our lives. ;)

I often end up quoting the same thing. I end up going faster because of the speed of the rest of the traffic, then someone will blow by doing at least 20 mph faster. Of course, they passed a law here that in essence says you can't go the speed limit if the other cars are going faster. Our former pastor got a ticket for going the speed limit on the highway.

LOL, I told my husband that I was going to quote him on his gravestone:

As were driving down the freeway (speed limit 60) he'd often exclaim in disgust:

"Look at him! I'm going SEVENTY and he's STILL passing me!"

Nah. If I shared all my wisdom and became a folk hero, then all my fans would flock to visit my grave and view whatever pithy saying they inscribed on my stone... I'd never get any rest after that and the whole idea is to rest in peace. Here's my favorite. Check out the inscription on the steps:

I took over for my mother who took over for her paternal grandfather.

I have not seen anyone showing great interest. Hope to spark some next few years.

An uncle of DH's followed his family back to 1700 when his Immigrant ggfather arrived in NH. Uncle Web interviewed as many relatives as possible on his wife's side also. All is entered in a genealogy book, in long hand with letters and documents included. When he died none of his 5 sons were interested and I who gave a slight interest was given the lot.

I didn't do anything with it until I received a computer almost 30 years ago and just to have something to do with it bought the Family Tree Maker Program and got started to enter his information.

Since then I've followed all the immigrant relatives back as far as I can - one to 1160, and another to 1400's and I have lots more to enter as I keep finding new stuff. I presently have about 4500 entries. I keep adding relatives that are remote yet think they might be a link to those that aren't.

Once I get this done I want to get it out of the computer and 'publish' it for each of my kids, and other relatives that it might interest.

My kids have some interest and love the stories, but none have spoken of an interest to continue it in their working lifestyle, although one son gets involved in like projects and will probably take over.

I have created a tree for a couple of families and enjoy that too.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

My mom did ours. I have all her info since she passed away last year-ish.
I don't know what more I would look for, and at this point no one in my family has been intrigued about that kind of stuff.

My husband started one for his side though. He has a cousin with some info but he says a lot of it is wrong and not confirmable, so he doesn't trust it.

My Dad and I started to look up our ancestors, but couldn't find any information so stopped. So I guess I was the one who started researching it in our family.

I try to go farther, but haven't gotten very far except on two lines. A distant cousin on Mom's side had done a lot of research and written a book on her line, then added an amendment to her book when she was introduced to my aunt (by marriage) and uncle to get my grandma's downline (don't know what you would call us).

Later, when I was searching Dad's mom's side I found a website listing all his grandmother's ancestors, plus I found out there is a book on them (and on CD) that someone in the line did. That first was only because I included Sarah's first husband and their children on my tree when I was on ancestry for a couple months.

There really isn't anyone to continue unless one considers my cousins, one by blood, the other by her father's adoption. The only point to me doing it is curiosity.

I started my own tree. Was not interested years ago when an aunt was working on a tree. I did end up with some of her information later. Some was correct and some was not. One of my granddaughters is interested in Genealogy and has help me when she is visiting.

CARO, that's what a distant relation did and had a snippet of my family line in it. I was able to use it to show a man at my old church and he found his family line. (different surname). But we figured we were related by marriage from the 1800's or something. (It's been awhile, so I don't remember exactly. He did say the husband of the marriage was rumored by his family as being crazy though. emoticon

My great grandmother started a tree, but distorted it because she found an unsavory creature. I had to find this person. I found several she might have found, some a lot worse then others. Daddy thinks she would have quit at the prostatute that was fairly close to her on the tree. There is no one that has shown any interest in taking over.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

I started from scratch, but one of my aunts on my mother's side, and one of my aunts on my step-mother's side self-printed booklets of family trees and stories. That was a huge help to get me started.

I did not take over the genealogy for anyone. I started from scratch.
BUT recently, I discovered my aunt has a great deal of information on my grandfather/her father, of which I haven't been able to find anything.
I will pass the research to my youngest child.

Two-fold question today.
Did you take over the family genealogy from someone and is there someone to take over for you?
