Does that mean the power company isn't supplying enough electricity for their grid? Glad you got it back quickly.
in cali we daily had rolling brown outs. It was such a scam. There was a lot of shinanigans going on.

Our power was out again today.

We have two gas fireplaces. Grateful. Our new living room has an electric heater that looks like a firelog...so we have a gas or electric option.

Our power went out today, JUST when I decided my mashed potatoes, stuffing and peas needed about 2 more minutes of warming up in the microwave.

That's what my old Pappy used to tell me... "Cheer up son, things could be worse". So I cheered up and sure enough, they got worse.

Good preparation Caro. I have wondered if I could switch my fireplace from propane to wood burning. I miss having a wood burning fireplace. I miss having a gas stove too.

Our power goes out occasionally. We are in SW MO where we get ice storms instead of snow. One year, we were iced in for 7days - no power for 11 days. Power lines were down on EVERY possible road out, even if we could have driven on it.

Luckily, we have a fireplace. We wore multiple layers, slept in the living room, cooked in the fireplace. My husband hauled five-gallon buckets of creek water so we could flush. (The creek is spring-fed, so it doesn't freeze over completely.) When the storm was predicted to be so bad, we had saved up a bunch of containers of drinking water.

our power went out around midnight. The reason we knew is because it got HOT. I got out of bed to call and report the outage and went back to bed. emoticon I could hear the dogs breathing as if they were going to have a heatstroke. What irks me is even if we lose power, my neighbors still have power. =/

Susan, that was a great use of the power out time.

Reminded me of when the power was turned off in St. Louis one year. They kept saying it would be in 1 1/2 hour increments throughout the city because the air conditioners were overloading everything. It was over 112 that day (112 at the All-Star Game). At my aunts' and cousins' it was at least 4 hours. So Gene came over and grilled ribs or something and we all went in the basement to eat by candlelight. All was fine and well until we almost lost the candlelight. My 2nd cousin forgot about the power outage and was going to blow out the candles.

Then in '82 we had a bad storm on Christmas Eve. I was supposed to fly out that day and my friend came over to help me finish getting ready (had to get gifts) and take me to the airport. Stores were all closed, flights all cancelled and he couldn't get home. He ended up spending the night and we ate in the living room in front of a great fire. I think we did have power that time, though. At least we had something for dinner and I think I cooked it (he doesn't know how to cook).

1. It could be worse.

2. Oh! It just GOT worse....but it COULD be worse than THAT, I guess.....

3. Make it a learning situation. How can it be fixed? What can I do differently to prevent it next time?
Bad situations are what made my husband become so wise and helpful. He always says, "My dad always says, if they can MAKE it, I can FIX it." And he gets right to figuring the problem out. From there, those experiences have helped people (like you) when THEY run into the same problem.

The power went out the other night here, too. Hubby came home and my youngest son and I were sitting at the dining room chatting in the dark.
We first learned that it was a neighborhood outage, nothing we could do about it.
And THEN, he went right to work building a fire in the firepit and we had a weiner roast.
"make hay while the sun shines!" eh?

Lights came on after a half hour or so, instead of the four hours that were predicted.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Thank you all. I appreciate your input.

David, the whole reason we're trying to "fix" the house is to pull up stakes and get out of Dodge. LOL But one thing after another keeps happening and stalling any of our progress.

Darlene, both my son and I are exhausted. It's like we keep getting beat down.

F8, I like that thinking and I do remind myself of it often.

Last night we lost power. (again, but this time there wasn't even a storm) And this morning my washing machine wasn't completely it's cycle. sigh. BUT we were able to finish mowing before the storm hit. Yay!

Some of the problems can be discussed with DH who usually doesn't find (my) problems much of a concern. He looks at it in a different view and voi-la it's gone...

Some get sorted to "his" problem and he just gets right at it and mine might take some thinking and stalling and finally I can call it fini. I tend to imagine the worse until I attack it.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

There's pretty much no choice. Get on with it or pull up stakes and head outta Dodge?

the flow is water all over the floor coming from the ceiling. Funny that you would use the word flow MaryAlice. emoticon
I'm grateful it's falling on a cement floor and not wood or carpet. And I'm grateful it isn't fire. I am concerned about the water damage though. Hopefully I have the water valve turned off and I won't wake up to any other surprises.
But hey! Eight months later I finally have the HVAC unit working and found an honest company. (It cost me more to have four companies come out 7 different visits than it did for this one company to fix the small little part needing replaced. And two of those companies wanted me to buy a whole new unit. I really dislike dishonest people). It just really chaps my hide.
