skinny until I was diagnosed and treated for hypo-thyroidism at age 13. Went from 77 pounds to 110 by age 16.

But mostly I began gaining when I began 'being in charge of myself'. Earned my own money and enjoyed snacking and Taco Bell. Hubby and I DATED on Taco Bell. lol
By the time I got married I was 140.
One year later, 160 (which I blame pretty much on the birth-control pill...got rid of THAT crap!)
And then I kept about 5lbs for each of my 9 children. It adds up that way!

It really jumped in 2014 when I did NOT have access to my thyroid meds. I gained about 30 lbs in that one year and I am still struggling with them. grrr.

And we all lived happily ever after...

I was a skinny child and thin when raising children but slowly gaining a bit - not overweight at all. Then the kids reached their teens and each developed different personalities that I was not happy with. DH was working over time to afford them and my usual organized life (seemed to) become bedlam...Each had their own schedule in school, and after and meals seemed to have no organization. I must have weighed in the high 140's... and never saw it happening.

Not ever dieting or watching calories, although I had a degree in Nutrition from college, weight slowly continued...About 170 pounds I started thinking I had a problem...and didn't know how to deal with it...by this time all the kids were on their own - whew- but I needed to get back to me...

I joined Sparks, and worked on weight somewhat... three years ago I lost 37 pounds and looked and felt great then gained about 7 pounds each year since knowing I could do it and saying I'll lose it yet didn't...One would think that 20 pounds is easy to lose if I have the guts to do it again - but, so far I haven't ...still trying...175 now and still trying...I will not buy larger size clothing tho...so must get serious ...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

5'1.5" - I shrunk from 5'4"
Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I think my parents were/are just toxic. Sadly. But my silver lining is that it made me a better parent. =)

Parents should not call their children names like that. My mom's problem was she was jealous of me when I was slim. When I started gaining too much weight she proudly said to everyone, "Look at how fat my girl is getting."

Parents should support their children, not put them down. But back when I was younger (don't know about yours) parents would say that they had to put their children down in order to get them to do what was wanted.

Great information everyone!

I was always scrawny as a kid; 82 pounds at the age of 12 and was 5'6" then. I had the usual names thrown at me, even by my father. Then I hit puberty and was 125 pounds and was then called thunder thighs by my father. In high school I had swim class and lost a little bit of weight, but it was my weight training class that really made me enjoy running and lost weight. I was 115 pounds. Then my mother started calling me anorexic. Ugh! I couldn't win with either of them. But boy did I have muscles! emoticon emoticon

I was very skinny as a child, I did not have a problem with my weight until the doctor I had changed my medication for my psoriatic arthritis. Which was a steroid and I put on over 150 pounds. When my health insurance ran out and I became a self pay she would not listen to me. I was in an accident and she was not taking proper care of me so I fired her and went to another doctor. I had surgery on my neck and the new doctor took me off of the steroid and within three months I lost 50 pounds. The last 50 pounds have been the hardest to lose. I am 72 years old now and only 410 with medical problems. I have finally gotten down to 126 pounds and I want to lose 15 pounds more. Hopefully once I get there I will be able to stay there.

When life hands you trouble slow down and stop to smell the roses. Life is so short, live like today is the last day of your life. Enjoy.
My name is Sherry and I am from Erie, PA but live in Ijamsville, MD for the time being. I am now living in Georgia with my daughter and her family for the time being.

I was thin until they removed my tonsils when I was 8. After that I gained weight and became quite chubby.

I was healthy and a little plump. Started gaining weight big time when I moved to Oregon in 1993. Lots of good lifestyle changes but social eating and lack of exercise in the winter caught up with me.

I was always active and the DR said I was healthy, but never skinny. I didn't start gaining weight till I left the farm, but kept eating like I did on the farm

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

I was thin as a child, it wasn't until I had my 4th child and martial issues started that the weight didn't come off. I felt emotionally overwhelmed.

I was skinny and my Mom was always crying that I didn't eat enough. I started gaining a little in college (went to 145 by the end of 5 years college), but really started gaining after I started working, mostly when working at Martin Marietta. Then gained after each of my parents died.
