Martylynn, that reminds me of when I bought my encyclopedias (a long time ago). Before my first payment was due I got a past due demand for the entire amount. I wrote to them and they said a payment from the other person was mistakenly charged on my account, but they wouldn't correct it. In fact the admission of the extra charge was made to the BBB, not me. After 3 months and constant collection notices I wrote to them, with copies to my attorney. Of course, no way did I have the money for an attorney, but claiming I sent a copy of the letter to one did the trick.

Had a problem with a company a few years ago and when was no able to resolve the problem told them I would be calling a lawyer and the BBB. Didn't have to call anyone, just telling them that took care of things and the problem was resolved.

I had a vet charge me for a bunch of stuff I hadn't ordered a few years ago. I called for a simple tooth floating (horse) and told them how I needed it done because of problems Fancy had. They refused to do it that way even though they had agreed when I called for the appointment, then charged me for giving me advise on her weight (which I was already taking care of and told them so), advise on what to feed, for a worm check (I had just wormed her), and the trip charge. I called the owner of the clinic to try to straighten it out and she accused me of everything under the sun. Don't do any business with that clinic anymore. The stable owner won't use them either unless he can't get the vet from the other town 10 miles further from the stables.

I usually file a complaint with the highest level I can find. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but I always give them a chance to make it better before cutting them off.

I usually have my husband handle it. He is more reasonable and also: although I think women can and should stick up for themselves there are some circumstances men's voices win the battle with less stress for us.

I did get charged by our Dr. 2 years ago when she charged me for a "mandated wellness check up" but because you can only them them once a year (mandated) this one was done a week too early and I had to pay for it. If she realized the dates (why should she have to look up the dates) she would have submitted it as a regular visit which it really was. By the time I realized it I had paid for it and just got tired of tracing and explaining the problem to the office help with all the paper work and stress of it. Cost me $269.00 and actually wasn't a wellness checkup at all but who am I to claim that???? I still get mad about it ...but over two years ago...

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

Give them a chance to make it right or explain it. If not satisfied, I'd never go back and I'd make sure the owner or top manager was aware of the situation. If it involved a lot of money, get a lawyer.

I've actually had that happen many times. From a couple plumbing companies - I told them I would get someone else. A couple companies I worked for cheated me out of the pay I was owed. Usually it is mechanics that try to cheat me. One of them I contacted corporate on and they made good, only to try to cheat me a second time. Every time I would go in there they ran the estimate to over $1000. Another one tried to do it to the tune of over $800. I don't go to them anymore. When I get any estimate for work on my truck I take it to a friend that has been doing my mechanical work for several years now.

What would you do if you found out a company cheated you/or tried to cheat you?
(for instance a mower repair company or an HVAC company)
