Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I can NOT have an empty stomach. That acid gets stirred up. Before that gall bladder got sucked out, I had to suck on a piece of candy...that kept the acid at bay....and messed up my teeth. lol

We usually have dinner at 5 pm. DH goes to bed by 7:30 and I at 11:00. I have a soft serve snack about 9 PM.

The Dr. wasn't concerned about our timing but in a friendly talk of how in sleeping we roll onto our stomach and squeeze anything in it back into our esophagus even tho it is a one way passage food or juices can back up...He also wasn't concerned about our discomfort (heartburn) but it is bad for our esophagus...

Jackie, how close to bed time do you and your dh eat dinner? I personally cannot go to bed after eating. I usually allow 4 or more hours for my food to digest before going to bed.

Occasionally with some foods however, when my DH was struggling with cancer and we brought up the problem of heartburn, especially late in the day the Dr. suggested taking Tums (or your choice) before bedtime.

He does, because in bed you roll around and likely push foods from you stomach back up into your esophagus in your sleep and having a tums in your system helps to control heartburn from that.

Since hearing that I take one or two Tums before I go to bed.

I've noticed I occasionally get heartburn from stress, but not food.

I have a hiatal hernia and one thing that almost eliminates reflux for me is eating smaller portions. I also take a couple Ranitidine daily and Tums when needed. Now that I've got my diet under control, that's seldom needed.

I had it bad for a couple of years- then I discovered that my gall bladder was highly inflamed. Having it removed took care of most of my heartburn problems.
There are certain foods that can trigger it. Brown sugar is one.

Milk works for my husband, but I hear it CAUSES heartburn for others.

Rolaids works best, but I don't think they are on the market much anymore. Usually can't find it, so resort to Tums.

I do have frequent heartburn. I was on Prilosec for 10 years but since kidney problems run in my family and it is hard on your kidneys I now just occasionally take Pepcid and usually just take Tums to relieve it. I also try to avoid foods I know cause it to flare.

I do get heartburn form time to time. Luckily not very often. If you read the fine print and it says my cause constapation. It will with me. Most of the time ab exercise followed by a brisk walk relieves the pain for me.

Do you, or have you, suffered from heartburn?

What do you or did you do to get rid of it? Do you take medication for it?
