I'm surprised at such unusual names I've never heard of.

My MIL's Mother's family had unusual names of Odessa, Lola, and Viva. I consider these lovely old fashioned names. If I was into genealogy when my children were born I might have named my girls the above names instead of Deborah, Susan and Joanne although my girls love their names and are happy NOT to be named the 'lovely old fashioned names"..

Also, in my MIL's father's side of the family there were 7 boys and 1 girl. One boy died early, most others married and were childless except for my MIL's father, and she was an only child of course didn't continue the surname, and one male cousin who had one female child. The name Yaeger was not continued in our family.

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I forgot my great grandmother. Her name was Tamaxena.

Funny, I just tried looking her up and it came up with photos from 3 Sparkpeople members. All have last entries in 2015, but if one of them is still on here, she is listed as a member of this team. Spark name is Really Retired, if anyone knows her.

Mom is a censes taker. She says there is one family, the wife didn't take the mans name. They have 4 children. They picked out a first name they liked then picked a last name that went with it. SO there are 6 people living in that house. Mother, father and 4 children and no two have the same last name

I haven't gotten far enough yet in my search but we have too many named Sophie, Mary, Frank, John, or some version of it.

When I was doing a history of my house, I discovered that one of the people who had lived in it back in 1840-50ish was named MARK.

I thought at the time, "Wow, Mark is a pretty modern name, I'm surprised someone from the early 1800's had it!"

And then it HIT ME, that Mark is a BIBLE name, lol, sooooo not-so-modern, I guess!

I love the different names. To me it really makes searching a little easier.
Here's some of my family stand outs. The following are all first names Queatoria,
my grandmother.
Men in my family tree are Vancort, Whipple, Aldes, Luda, Hunley, Kossuth and
Pushmataha. I found several of the men just by doing an Ancestry search using
the first name and residence information.

I don't remember too many unusual names. I guess my Dad's (and his father and grandfather) - Seburn; his brother's middle that was also one of their uncle's - Younger (that's the one that got me interested in genealogy). My grandmother also had a sister named Charlsie who passed away at age 7.

I can't think of any right now.

But I really wish I would have added my dad's last name to our sons' names.

Out of 14 grandchildren of my paternal grandparents there is only one hope of passing on the family name.

My dad came from 6 children...3 boys and 3 girls....so scratch out the girls.
Of the three boys, my DAD had ALLL GIRLS!
The next brother had only 1 son and he showed no interest in getting married. (In fact, he just had a private marriage unbeknownst to the rest of us...at the age of late 40s!

The third brother, had no children of us own.

So...out of us five girls, one of my sisters had a child with an abusive man she didn't marry (he stalked her for years and he finally spent a year in prison for it.). Her son goes by my dad's name, not HIS dad's.

And that's all we've got!!!! :(

As for my HUSBAND'S last name, I think my five boys are the only ones going to keep that going. He has one nephew that could pass it on, but he's almost 40 and most likely won't have children. I don't think there are any cousins that were able to pass it on, even though the family was a good size. :(

No pressure here! lol

And we all lived happily ever after...

I had a lady from Sweden that had a very long name. I wasn't just that each name was long, but there were about 7 names. I asked someone to look at it. He said that yes the lady in question had a very long unusual name, but on top of that someone had run her fathers name and her mothers name together with hers.

What is the most unusual name you've come across in your genealogy?
