I think I will finally be bothered by the heat this summer. We had a few days that seemed unbearable to me, and I'm assuming it's the 'beginning to go through the change' thing.

And we all lived happily ever after...

This will be my first summer living in Arizona's heat. Presently we wake to temps in the 70's but that is just a tease of what is to come in July and August - so I hear!

I am bothered by the heat (DH loves it). Thank goodness for the AC and controls at my fingertips.

However when the night temps do not cool off the day's heat I've been told is the worse time and then we will live inside. Walking is at dawn, as are all outdoor chores.

I have fans in every room, even the bathroom and will spend my day inside, with shades keeping the sun out of our home and plan my day with very little exertion and cold salad meals ...

Jackie I'm a Halloween baby but many years ago.

Summer: Minesota
Winter: Arizona (as of Dec. '08)

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

I use fans since that is all I have. If it gets too hot and that is not working, put ice in a pan in front of the pan. That will cool the air coming from the fan.

I have seen something done where one of those foam coolers is used. Cut a hole in the top of the cooler that the front of the fan fits in (not so big it falls through). On the side of the cooler you also cut a hole. Put a block of ice in the cooler, point the side hole where you want the cool air to go, and the fan facing into the cooler. Turn on the fan. Home made air conditioner. (Haven't made one of those, but have done the ice in the pan).

Evaporative coolers. Good for areas in or near deserts, but not really much use in an actual swamp. They really help in the right situation. You'll spot them in old movies a lot.

You can get a smaller one like this or much bigger ones for much more money:

I've found putting foil on sun facing windows seems to help a little in cooling rooms.

I'd never heard of swamp coolers.

Fans up to a point, but past that point they do very little good. Swamp coolers can also work well in limited areas, but check to see if they work where you live. If your humidity tends to the high side, again they do little good. Burrow in, like to cellars, underground rooms, and basements. Geothermal is also an alternative for those with the money to set it up. If all else fails, head for the north or the mountains (or both).

Depending on where you live and the temp. If you are at home use fans, If you are where it is hot, go some place air-conditioned. Mall, store, library. Drink plenty of water and in the heat keep activity to a minimal. Several light meal in place of big meals. I grew up in south Florida without A/C

How would you recommend staying cool to people without a/c?
