Names are a favorite subject for me also. Although I wouldn't change my name I'm happy with what my parents decided on. My grandparents used three names my grandfather using a godparent. My grandmother used the midwife's name that delivered her.
Sometimes this has helped when researching and unusual name.

Ohhhhhh I LOVE talking about names- you probably shouldn't have asked. lol
One of my greatest joys was naming my 9 children, 10, including the one we lost early on in pregnancy.
But about MY name. I've never liked it. My middle name is Annette, so it sounds like I'm stuttering when I say my names together. Too many a-n's together.

I used to love when a few of my teachers or aunts called me Susie, it seemed like a term of endearment when they said it.
My mother always called me Susan.
My father would call me Sue-Sue. or Susie Q.
My siblings and most people who known me all my life call me Sue. Which I do NOT like anymore because it's pretty bland and rhymes with Poo. lol

Then I began introducing myself as Susan to all newcomers in my life.
I've never liked it because I think old-fashioned names are very pretty, and I consider Susan to be more modern-y.
BUT THEN I discovered that Jane Austin wrote a BOOK called Susan which was written in the late 1700's-early 1800's. So I guess it IS old-fashioned.
And now, I NEVER see it in the last couple of generations, so it's almost rare!

I have a huge list of favorite names, four of which are now my daughters'....sooooo...I win!

I have heard that about Hispanics. I've been told my maternal grandmother was German/Jewish.

My name is similar. Only 2 middle names. It is Grandma's name (Mary), my given name, my godmother's name (Esther). Everyone in Mom's family had their godmother's name as their 3rd name. Mom's was a version of her mothers and her middle names were aunts, I believe, one of which was her godmother. I wonder how many separate godparents there were in her family of 5 boys and 5 girls (yep, they came in that order, too).

My maternal grandmother had 3 middle names and her mother had 4. The Mexicans say something about how many names they have and I tell them the Mexicans have nothing on the British

I like that MaryAlice. I think my middle name is from my maternal grandmother and then when I named my daughter my maternal grandmother asked if it was after her mom. It wasn't, because I didn't know then that she has three names; first and two middle names. LOL

Maybe that is why I did what I did. Mary and Alice are family names on both sides of the family, and there are others that have both names. Some with one first some with the other, but none that had the 2 names together

My mother wanted to name me Bridget after Brigitte Bardot. My father named me after my mother. My son in law wanted to name his daughter after me but I said no, let her have her own idendity without having to share a name.
I personally like my name, but I don't like sharing it with my mum

I have never thought about that. I went by Mary for a year, but I never could remember to answer to it. I think by now I am just content to stick with my given name.

I have been told I need to fix it so that my name is the same on all official documents. What is more official -- your Social Security, your drivers license, your birth certificate? I found out Monday that with SS my name is officially just my middle name, but with everyone else it is Mary Darlene, so maybe i need to change SS. Of course, then I need a certified birth certificate or original and that would mean my cousin would have to go get one for me since it is in another state.
